The old schoolhouse desks are replaced by modern, comfortable furniture in the restored Wilson Schoolhouse. Where students once studied, you can now relax in comfort surrounded by Wisconsin hills, just a mile from the beautiful upper Mississippi River. The Wilson school was built in 1917 and functioned as a one-room school until 1965. It was recently restored and elegantly furnished to retain the "open" atmosphere of the original schoolhouse. It still maintains much of its original character and charm with the original slate blackboard and school desks. The schoolhouse is listed on the City of La Crosse, the State of Wisconsin, and National Register of Historic Buildings. It is located in a rural setting on 12 acres of woods, fields, and gardens only 8 minutes from historic downtown La Crosse. Rental includes the entire schoolhouse and will comfortably accommodate 2 to 8 adults during their stay in La Crosse, WI.

What a great discovery! We found this on our autumn road-trip heading from Duluth to Bellevue, Iowa, and loved the experience of having an entire adaptively re-purposed old schoolhouse to ourselves with a full kitchen to cook in and a spacious living area to relax in. It was so wonderful that we decided to return on our trip back home a week later. The owners were wonderful and welcoming. We will be back! My wife is considering having her knitting group come to have a retreat. It was a delightful experience!

Wonderful place, near la Crosse but with a definite in-the-country private feel. Huge main living area, up a short floight of six wide wodden stairs, was once the schoolroom and now has a large comfortable seating area with large television, a dining table that easily seats six with an adjacent kitchen-counter bar with stool for four more. The kitchen is roomy and has all the appliances, dishes and so forth you will need. There is a desk and an abundance of electrical outlets for tech needs. Downstairs are two bedrooms (one with queen bed, one with twin beds) and another smaller seating area as well as a second bathroom. Comfy sofas fold out into beds making lots of sleeping room. The owners live in a house adjacent to the school and are great help. This is a remarkable value and I would think a great experience for families with kids. Highly recommend it! You will love this place. Be aware, however, that you need to negotiate stairs to enjoy it.

Despite being a historic building, the Wilson Schoolhouse Inn packed modern day amenities while keeping that historic charm. Air conditioning, wifi internet, flat screen television and a Roku, a full kitchen, washer and dryer, and plenty of room to relax, sleep, and hang out. Richard and Lisbeth were both very friendly, accommodating, and compassionate hosts. They are knowledgeable about the history of the building and ensure their guests have a great stay. For us, that included setting up a pack and play for our baby. Beds were comfortable, and everything was clean. I can't wait to come back up for a longer stay with friends and family.

We just stayed this past weekend, and couldn't have been happier! Beautiful property with an awesome combination of vintage charm (on National Register of Historic Places) updated to be a great place to stay or use as a home base for a time to explore the area. Upstairs is the original large "one room schoolhouse" main room with a very nice kitchen facility on one side, truly a great room!!! We enjoyed the feeling that comes with many large original glass windows overlooking lovely grounds (we had fresh snow to add to the beauty), lots of wood in floors, walls and paneling, many lovely furnishings, and some original schoolhouse components like a slate chalkboard, coat hooks, and many pictures from the history of the building. We used this as a great place for a family reception following an intimate wedding. Downstairs are two nice bedrooms, a sitting area we used for a wedding ceremony with 20 guests, laundry and a very nice second full bathroom to go with the one upstairs. The location is just at the edge of LaCrosse - felt like we were out in the country, but we were just a few minutes from the restaurants downtown. We were delighted with everything about this property, the location, and the care that the owners/hosts show with everything about this stay. Very easy to give this 5 stars!
