Welcome to The Charmant Hotel, a 67-room upscale boutique hotel in historic downtown La Crosse, Wisconsin. Our hotel is a renovated candy factory, built in 1898. Architectural details of the original building have been preserved and reimagined, including maple wood flooring, wood beams, and exposed brick. Some say these materials still emanate the sweet smell of candy. Regarding our name, Charmant was a premium line of chocolates produced by the former Joseph B. Funke Candy Company. Charmant is also the French word for "charming," reflecting the hotel's friendliness, whimsy, and allure. Embracing locals and visitors alike, The Charmant Hotel is the heart of hospitality in La Crosse. Our rooms and suites feature premium amenities. Event spaces are available for business gatherings or private dinners. Our restaurant features a warm, inviting ambiance serving market driven, rustic, globally influenced cuisine using fresh ingredients sourced from local and regional farmers and purveyors. Offering daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner service, the dishes emerging from the open kitchen are fresh, simple, and down-to-earth. The 75-seat restaurant offers outdoor patio dining and a private dining room. Additional food and beverage venues at The Charmant Hotel include a cocktail bar and lounge, a "parlour" offering coffee and spirits, a rooftop terrace serving wood-fired pizza, and a sweet bar with pastries and handmade confections. Bon appetit!

Old candy factory now restored into a great boutique hotel right off a wonderful river park. Beautiful hotel with industrial sheek feel. Rooms aren’t huge but everything is nice quality. In entire hotel it appears they really thought things out—the right fixtures, furnishings and decor. All very high quality, huge quartz/glass shower, nice bed linens, etc. restaurant is good, bar. What sets this place apart is the amazing friendly staff. Roof top bar w food not open on M-T when we were there, but main bar and restaurant is good. A couple area restaurants are owned by same group—we tried Love Child which I would recommend. Beautiful park next door on Mississippi River w a nice garden on far north end by the tour riverboat. Highly recommend

We have stayed at the Charmant a couple of other times before and have always enjoyed the hotel and its convenient location to downtown Lacrosse and the different bars restaurants and shops.
However this time there was a $5.00 self park fee added to our bill for each night of our stay that was a surprise, it would have been nice to know that up front. Also during the pandemic they are not doing daily room cleaning service which makes sense to lesson the foot traffic but with this being our first hotel stay during the pandemic it would have been nice to know that as well, and maybe its on there web site under covid restrictions and we just failed to read it not sure. We also had dinner at the hotel one night and we were not impressed at all slow service food quality not up to par and they were out of a couple of items on the menu as well. We still enjoyed ourselves and the hotel overall nice rooms and the shower is awesome.

Great Hotel that's has a profile that Feels more like, LA, NY or Chicago instead of a small Midwestern town. A great location along a the scenic River walk, Close to Downtown and a few other Restaurants that also have A Big City feel , and more importantly, great food. the Staff is attentive and friendly, and very knowledgeable about the area. There's a Hip vibe in the lobby/ Bar/ Restaurant area. The food is outstanding and the menu changes seasonally. Its a limited menu, but everything that's offered is well prepared with high quality local ingredients. The Rooms are large and well appointed. the bed is Sooooo comfortable, you almost don't want to get up in the morning! You definitely get your moneys worth , as the price is very reasonable for a hotel that offers so many amenities and offers such high quality service.

This was our second stay at The Charmant, and it won't be our last! From the moment you step into this charmingly restored building, it envelopes you in luxury and comfort. The staff was attentive and welcoming and your greeting is made even more special with chocolates for two. (You can purchase more right in the lobby.) We especially loved the attention to detail in the exceptionally comfy bed and pillows, the marble sinks and shower and quality bath amenities. Everything was sparkling clean and we were able to relax during these unique pandemic times. On our first visit (2019), we loved the roof-top, outdoor pizza and bar, but it was closed for the season during our late October stay, but the wood-burning fireplace in the coffee/tea parlor was a perfect spot to relax after a day of leaf peeping around the beautiful coulee region nearby and a drive along the Great River Road. We highly recommend a splurge on a river view room or suite with a balcony over-looking Riverview Park. Spectacular! Next trip.... And thank you to the staff for making our stays so memorable and exquisite!

We loved the Charmont. Everything about it was stellar from the reservation to checkout. The room (King view) was an excellent value for the price. Clawfoot tub and walk-in shower were delightful. The bed was very comfortable. We had a delightful dinner paired with Pearl Street brewery selections. Parlor coffee was great, sunny inviting room for the morning. Truffles at check-in were a nice treat. I have nothing but good things to say about the Charmont. The same value of services in MKE would cost 100-150 more a night. Stay there if you go to LaCrosse

From the time we walked in, we enjoyed the style and feel of this candy factory turned boutique hotel. The staff were excellent, going so far as volunteering to make a reservation at a local restaurant that usually does not take reservations. The room was a neat mix of older brick walls mixed with modern furnishings, and ours overlooked the park and the river. The location is close to the river walk and several very nice restaurants are within an easy walk, although the Charmant also has a house car that can drive you if you'd prefer that.

Upon entering the hotel, we were greeted my multiple staff with a smile. When it came time to check in, the host was very quick and efficient behind the computer and was still able to answer all of our safety and health concerns with confidence. Since we are not local to the La Crosse area, he was even helpful enough to point out many local favorite hubs that we could check out (MANY places within walking distance). Our room blew our expectations out of the water! Very clean and great decorations. We were even excited to see a blue tooth speaker that we could connect to was provided in the room as well. Very spacious bathroom with a walk in shower as well as two sinks for both of us to get ready at. The bar and restaurant staff were all very knowledgeable with drink and food options and pairings. Answered any and all questions we had for them. All in all, this place was amazing! We will definitely always be staying at The Charmant Hotel for all of our visits to La Crosse!

The Charmont is a gem. The design is spectacular, at once hip and classic. All of the finishes were luxurious. Staff were super friendly. Our room was comfortable and the bathroom was huge. We loved our cocktails and our dinner at their main restaurant. Above all: Covid protocols were first rate from masks on everyone to spaced out tables to large open spaces. We also loved the gratis bikes to borrow so that we could start our morning on the bike trails. Highly recommend.

We stayed two nights in this lovely hotel, and enjoyed every moment. The staff was friendly and gracious. The room was beautiful, with unexpected luxuries - a wonderful huge rain shower, massive and incredibly comfortable bed, fascinating wallcovering and art that captured the candy factory origins of the building. We ate dinner in the french restaurant, and the food and service were exquisite. French onion soup, asparagus with scallions and bernaise, prime ribeye with onions and mushrooms, and creme brulee - all perfect. So good, in fact, that we ate in the bar the second night and had the soup, the asparagus, and the goat cheese with honeycomb appetizer. Will we return? Well, this was our first time to LaCrosse, but if we ever go back, there is no question we will stay at the Charmant!

I can't say I thought it was fabulous but it was nice. If we had gotten a better deal I would have thought it was better than it was. As is, we paid an urban price for an upgraded room - king luxury river view or something like that. When I entered I was underwhelmed when comparing it to the image I saw online. Our row of river view windows on the 2nd floor looked directly at the men doing construction on the park sidewalks below us. Our bathroom window needed to be covered as it would allow anyone who wanted a look to see us in there. There were not enough options for storing our luggage (like a luggage rack and the armoire was not big enough to leave an open suitcase in it). For a short stay we don't typically take all our things our of the suitcase.
However, the room was comfortable and quiet for the most part. The bathroom is huge! Like, why the shower is as big as it is isn't quite clear. On occasion we did hear doors slamming as people came home at night or got up early. The tv was nice to use with all the direct tv channels - we like to watch the news or wind down with something at night. We also used the cute little bluetooth radio for listening to our own playlists while getting ready to go out.
The location is nice - we biked directly from here and walked all over downtown and the park. The area feels safe and inviting. So many good places to eat and drink. We did a little shopping, too, at Duluth Trading Co.
If Oktoberfest was on, the hotel (as well as many) are so close you could definitely walk over, bike or uber easily.
If I were to stay again I'm not sure I'd bother to pay extra for a fancier room as I don't think it added to our experience necessarily. I do see staying a little longer as there is so much to do in the LaCrosse area. We had a nice drive home stopping at Perrot State Park, for example, but there are many options even closer to LaCrosse.
