Wonderful winter getaway! Everyone went out of their way to make our stay memorable. Enjoyed the history tour from the concierge, deep soaking tub in our room and relaxing day at the spa. Breakfast in the Wisconsin Room featured French pastries made on site and Sarah made delicious suggestions for our entrees. Dinner at Blackwolf lodge was very cozy, the pork chops were really good. Ended our stay with a stop at Frozen Fairways which was really beautiful, even tried our hand at curling! We were able to go midweek and take advantage of a number of specials. Highly recommend!

This is such an amazing historical property and at Christmas time is is magical with all the lights and when it snows, even more so! Yes it is a 5 ⭐️, 5💎....but they still seem to impress me. From chocolates in your room at check in, to chocolate at evening turn down service. I travel with a little crochet mouse - when I returns to my room, they even had it's robe n slippers in a little American Club tray. ❤. We came for a holiday party and I'll definitely return in the future.

I am a Los Angeles based interior designer and was invited by the Kohler Company and Ferguson's Showrooms to visit Kohler HQ for three days and it was an absolutely amazing experience. From the moment of our arrival we experienced top tier service all around. The king room I was given was great and comfortable with a fully outfitted Kohler bathroom. The spa was just what I needed including the 50 min full body massage. The restaurants were all top notch and would visit again in a heartbeat. Touring the Kohler showroom and factory was just the icing on the cake. I highly recommend staying at the American Club and visiting Kohler, WI!!!

Our room reservation was totally fouled up despite having spent 20 minutes on the phone with their reservation specialist over a month before arriving. This was eventually corrected to my satisfaction but that is not the way to start what is supposed to be a relaxing weekend.

Carriage House rooms are supposed to allow access for dining at River Wildlife. Don't bet on that, folks. No tables were available for the entire duration of our 3 day stay.

Beware:

Even if you are a guest in a suite in the Carriage House, you are required to purchase additional spa services in order to use the spa pool area on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

This, I can only conclude, is their definition of 5 star service; a well over thousand dollar per night room but with no pool access unless you buy a massage, pedicure, facial, etc.

All in all, not even close to what I expect at this price point.

Until their spa policy changes I will not return. Maybe not even then.

We reserved a Deluxe Carriage House room. We were "upgraded" to an Immersion Suite, which we did not request, nor want and told the front desk we did not like the room we were put into & were very uncomfortable with it. They did nothing to provide us with the room type we actually reserved so that we could be comfortable after we informed them that we did not want the room (facility was not even CLOSE to being sold out while we were there, so an excuse of "we overbooked that room type" would be a lie). Instead, informed us when we checked out that they comp'd us 1 night free for our "issues", never acknowledging what "issues" we were comp'd for. They knew the entire time we were there that we did not like nor want the room, that THEY changed us to. Never apologized for forcing us to stay in an uncomfortable room, just "here's some money back for 'issues'". The GM's (Ruben Cambero Sedano) response via Google Reviews of "well other guests always tell us they love this room type" is insulting. If other guests love it, then it is absurd and wrong for anyone to not be comfortable with having no privacy and be forced to shower or bathe on display to the entire room. This is a disgusting excuse for service. I would never, ever, ever stay here again. E.V.E.R.
Original post: Just arrived to find our room (immediately next to the elevator = loud) is open concept from bed to bath. Some people may find this romantic, I have always found it creepy. Super uncomfortable and disappointed that this is the first impression arriving here. The bed faces directly at the clear glass shower and the bath tub is right next to the couch in the "sitting area", just staring right in on ya if you want to shower or take a bath. I don't need nor want to be stared at when I shower or bathe. I cant be the only person who wants privacy in a bathroom, not for it to be on display to the entire room. Oh, but at least the toilet has a solid door enclosing it, so there are evidently SOME things they feel can have privacy. It would be really nice if they disclosed this info in the room descriptions so we could have chosen a room option where I would actually feel comfortable. I called down to the front desk and asked if all rooms have this same open concept-staring at ya while ya shower, footprint, I was told yes, in this particular room type. I made it clear this made me uncomfortable and the front desk woman said nothing in return.
Great way to start off a long, relaxing weekend, by being creeped out and made uncomfortable. Seriously considering just leaving, not at all what I had envisioned or what I was hoping for.

Spa staff called security to have us removed for having a cell phone on silent mode with no other patrons in the spa at that time. Unbelievable - stay far away from this place. At $600 + why would you expect to be treated this way.

We booked a reservation at the Carriage house at the American Club in Kohler Wi for the night of Dec 13, 2023. We checked in and used the spa until our room was ready. Around 7:30pm that night we went to use the Spa and while on silent mode with no other patrons in the spa at that time we had our phones with us. Again, there were no other patrons in the spa at the time and our phones were always on silent mode. We were then harassed by multiple staff to tell us that they had a new policy in place and no electronics were allowed at the spa. We informed the staff that we needed to be in contact with others for health concerns and that if any guests in the spa complained we would leave. We also informed the staff that at no time when we booked the reservation, or on arrival at check in, or at check in at the spa or any posted signs or at any time were we ever informed of this change in policy. The Spa Staff decided to call security and have my wife and I removed from the Spa. The manager of the American Club intervened as the 2 security guards stood by and told us that she agreed this was a mistake that the policy was new and the staff was not trained yet.

While there are many reasons guests may need to be accessible on their phones (if put in silent mode so as not to disturb others). I understand that Kohler and the American club are free to make any policy they chose. What I can not understand is why they would not tell their guest beforehand and before they take their money to stay there.

We believe we should be compensated for the time and expense to travel to the American Club for their failure to inform us of this change in policy.

While we will not be returning to the American Club due this foolish policy and the way they felt the need to call security, they should at least inform guests before they make a reservation to stay.

The American Club sells themselves on five star service and accommodations, but they fell short of that. While staff was friendly and highly professional, our issues included extremely long wait times for okay meals, an overcrowded spa, dingy dark outdated rooms, and dealing with the massive crowds for the Christmas market that happened to be the weekend we were there.

The dining - we attempted to make dinner reservations two weeks in advance only to find out that their restaurants were fully booked....luckily the concierge was able to accommodate us after a few calls. However we did not realize we needed reservations for breakfast and had to wait over an hour to be seated the first day, then made a reservation our second day only to wait an hour past our reservation to be seated anyways. Didn't even attempt lunches. For dinner we selected the tasting menu at the Immigrant at >$250 per person and it was okay not great (mostly heavy meaty gamey dishes with not much creativity) and not in the same ballpark as tasting menus in our hometown Chicago that are less than half that price.

Spa- an absolutely beautiful spa, however it was overcrowded due to a small birthday party. I was told to use spa facilities on weekends I had to book two full service treatments which I did for around $500 and was hoping to have some privacy, not wait in a line to use a toilet, not wait in line for the cold plunge, and not have to sit in a soaking tub totally overflowing from some of the fattest people I have ever seen. Meanwhile, my partner checked out the hot tubs in their sports/recreation center and ended up between two individuals eating Mcdonalds in the hot tub.

Some good news is that I loved their nearby cycling class! The yoga class was almost great too however they did not cleans mats in between classes nor did they clean the floor so I was between puddles of other people's sweat on an already used stinky wet mat.

Overall it was a decent experience but definitely not a destination experience.

This was our first visit to the village of Kohler and the American Club. We stayed in the Carriage House in a Heritage King room. It was very spacious, comfortable bed, awesome soaking tub and separate shower with two heads!

The complimentary evening appetizers with drinks were delicious! Raw veggies with hummus, cheese/crackers, salami, chicken salad, beer, wine, soda and water.

Continental breakfast was more than enough; boiled eggs, bagels, granola, fresh fruit cups, cold cereal, muffins/pastries, chia seed pudding, overnight oatmeal. Plus, various juices, coffee, tea and milk.

Afternoon tea offered many varieties of sweets along with your cup of tea.

Plush robes and slippers are provided which are so nice if you use the spa. Change in your room and skip the locker room.

Nightly turndown service is a nice added touch! The elevator was always there as soon as we touched the button for service, ample parking right across from the entrance to the Carriage House, walking distance to the Design Center and the shopping area.

My only complaint is they were out of honey for tea each day of our 3 night stay. I inquired about it and was simply told “we don’t have any”. For the price you pay you shouldn’t have to purchase honey when tea is available throughout the day and evening.

The candy that’s available for purchase in the room honors bar was not fresh and just about to the expiration date. One box of toffee that I opened was melted and stuck together.

Just had an absolutely wonderful interlude at The American Club! Despite labor shortages everywhere, we had an outstanding stay with exceptional service -- everywhere and all the time. There must be a culture that permeates the hotel, the whole town, and the golf courses, as everyone went out of their way to be especially helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our Govenor's Suite with the great steam/rain shower and the separate living area. The bed and linens were lovely. We had room service breakfasts on three mornings; the food was beautifully prepared and arrived exactly on time. Our golfing experiences at Whistling Straits and Blackwolf Run River and Meadows were terrific. Dinners at the Wisconsin Room, Whistling Straits and the Tavern at Woodlake were delicious, with the ever-present great service. Even the gentleman driving the shuttle was great. Yes, the experience is pricey, but we had a marvelous time.

I know the reviews are all over the map on this place and was hoping to give it 5 stars, but there were just too many things where it fell short for a 5 Star property which it advertises itself as. The staff here is very welcoming and helpful. We checked in early because of spa appointments. Our room wasn't ready, which was not a surprise and so we left our luggage with the bellman. When I got the call that the room was ready I went to the front desk and was given a key and told that my luggage would be brought up shortly. When I got to the room, it had not been made up. The front desk manager got involved after a series of unfortunate events and after another hour the room was ready. We had two meals on property - dinner at Black Wolf Run restaurant which was good and breakfast in the Wisconsin Room where the service was excrutiatingly slow even though the room was only half full. (See restaurant reviews) The concierge and bell staff were stellar. Our car was ready quickly when we needed it to go to the John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan and the Art Preserve in Kohler. (Highly recommend both these places) We had dinner on our second night at Lino Ristorante Italiano in Sheboygan on the river, which was delicious and delightful. Our room at The American Club was very comfortable and the shudders and blackout curtains made for a perfect night's sleep. The bathroom, as you would expect, was excellent including the tub. Services at the spa are expensive, but according to my daughter, were the best she ever experienced. I think that the glitches during our stay were likely due to staffing issues which all businesses are struggling with and so I won't hesitate to make a return trip.

Black Wolf Run is the golf course nearest the hotel. Whistling Straits is a 15-minute drive from the hotel. Shuttles run throughout the Destination Kohler property; I believe WS is considered part of the property.
