We have stayed at the American Club many times. Unfortunately, this stay was disappointing. Let's start with the lack of lighting in our room. Why so dark? We had to use a flashlight to actually use the coffee maker. Careful...the door stop is poorly placed and it is easy to stub your toe. (twice) The most significant issue was the lack of dining options. On a Saturday, The Wisconsin Room was closed, Horse and Plow dining room closed at 5:00 pm, Tavern on the Lake had limited seating. The Winery Bar advertised live music. Nope. Also, the Lobby Bar never opened any of the days we were there. Usually there is piano music as well. No more apparently. It was a cool fall day and sitting outside near one of the many heaters would have been nice. Alas, none were on and no one around to assist. There appears to be a severe shortage of workers. All of this coupled with a two night minimum ($$$$) made our stay not enjoyable for a so called 5 star resort.

Dear guest, We are truly sorry to hear that your recent stay with us fell short of your expectations. We appreciate you taking the time to provide us with feedback. As you mention, the Library Bar and piano player, has been temporarily discontinued and we are looking forward to resume operations in the upcoming weeks. We have, consistently, offered live entertainment on Saturdays at two of our venues: Taverne on Woodlake (5-9pm) and at The Immigrant Winery (8pm-Midnight). I apologize if this was not properly communicated to you during your stay. The Wisconsin Room and Horse & Plow restaurants have remained open to the public every weekend. In an effort to better understand your experience, both Michael Pacovsky, Director of Food and Beverage, and myself, would love to remain at your disposal to address your concerns. Please feel free to contact us at michael.pacovsky@kohler.com or ruben.camberosedano@kohler.com. D5772IDDtims, we sincerely appreciate your patronage and are looking forward to regain your confidence in The American Club. Kindly, Ruben Cambero Sedano, General Manager | The American Club & Inn on Woodlake

We stayed at American Club-main building. We experienced a first class hotel with very friendly and accommodating service. The hotel is full-service. Plenty of willing staff to address our needs. The rooms had top amenities--Kohler bathroom with both jacuzzi tub and shower and of course double sink. The decor reflects the hotel's historic period

Given its reputation and our expectations, we were disappointed in our recent stay. The room was lovely, but there wasn't much natural light coming through our window. To our surprise, the bathroom was small. Given that this is Kholer, we were expecting much more in the bathroom. And calling two weeks in advance for a dinner reservation we still couldn't get the dining experience we wanted. Management needs to reserve sufficient places for guests staying at their accommodation. The most negative aspect was other loud and boisterous guests. We were surprised there were so many, and many public areas were crowded and noisy. I also spoke to the front desk about slamming doors, and asked either the front desk manager or hotel manager to contact me. No response and therefore a lack of quality service. Excellent properties always follow up with the guest. Again, disappointing. But the concierge was responsive and excellent. I suggest making her the Front Desk Manager. Overall, the value proposition was mediocre.

Thank you very much for your recent stay at The American Club, Lysippos. We appreciate your feedback and we are saddened to learn that your experience at Destination Kohler was disappointing. I will follow up with my team to see where the manager/MOD call back process broke down and ensure it doesn't happen again in the future. Our concierges are incredible and I am happy to hear that your experience with them was excellent. Lysippos, I would like to remain at your disposal should you like to discuss your stay in further detail with me. Ruben.camberosedano@kohler.com Warmest regards, Ruben Cambero Sedano General Manager | The American Club & Inn on Woodlake

My husband and I had a 3 night stay at the American Club in late August. We booked a standard King room last minute and were planning on relaxing since it was our first trip without kids in over 4 years. We are not golfers, but big foodies so we were excited to lock in reservations. Overall we both agreed that this resort was just “fine” and definitely not worthy of the 5-start accolades they claim. 5-stars are given to hotels like the Peninsula, Four Seasons, etc. who not only have impeccable service but the hotel itself is immaculate. We rate the American Club a solid 3 stars, and the prices should match accordingly in the future. Here is why: • Rooms- our room was just fine. Reminded me of a Marriott from the early 2000’s as far as décor. Definitely in need of an upgrade. We liked the shower and the bed was comfortable but there is so much room for improvement in the quality of the room. I know they’re going for the “historic” look but there are many ways to refresh the rooms (ex, eliminate the heavy drapery, update the décor and furniture, etc.). For over $500/night and 5-star rating we expected a lot more. I will say we were initially given room 150 (avoid at all costs- it’s claustrophobic, at the end of a hallway with tiny windows that were looked into dense trees/shrubbery so there was no light) and called to ask to change. They were accommodating and relocated us to room 120 which was better but the TV is situated on the side of the bed which is an odd angle. • Restaurants- We ate at the Immigrant Room, Horse and Plow, Whistling Straights, Wisconsin Room, and found a gem in Sheboygan- Trattoria Stefano. As foodies from Chicago, we have dined everywhere and it’s a true hobby so we were excited to try a couple of the resort restaurants. Immigrant Room- service was awesome, food and presentation was good but definitely does NOT match the price point. We spent $330 for 2 (I only had a glass of wine and my husband a ½ bottle). We did appreciate the social distancing as there were only 2 out of 4 or 5 tables sat in our section. We decided to cancel our reservations the next night at the Wisconsin Room (figured it would also be overpriced as well). We had lunch the next day at Whistling Straits which I highly recommend sitting outside. The course is beautiful and it was so peaceful having a casual outdoor lunch watching golfers make the turn. We went to Horse and Plow that night and it was fine. Standard bar food. The next day we had lunch at the spa (again very overpriced- I think we spent $90 for 2 sandwiches, hummus, and 2 glasses of wine) but had an amazing dinner at Trattoria Stefano. Highly recommend! The service was awesome and the food was amazing. One of the best Italian meals we’ve had. On our check out day, we had breakfast in the Wisconsin Room and really enjoyed it- get the eggs benedict! • Activities- unless you’re a golfer, there isn’t much to do. There is very limited outdoor space to just relax/read a book. We sat in the courtyard to play cards and have tea one day but that is really the only outdoor space they offer. We realized after we booked that they didn’t have an outdoor pool and that’s really what this resort needs (and what we were looking for in a getaway). We checked out the “beach” area near the fitness center and it wasn’t really appealing to us. We walked around the shopping area for a bit- bought some Ryder Cup gear and chocolates. We did have a spa day and while the services were good, know that the spa area itself is very small. Again, looking for an outdoor escape, we were told there was a rooftop whirlpool. Great! Nope- it’s indoors and there are a few lounge chairs outside in a very tight space. We checked out the Kohler Design Center which was great as it gave us some ideas about our upcoming renovation. Make sure the check out the basement level for Kohler history- super interesting. While we enjoyed the historic element to the resort, the rest didn’t fit the bill for us for our overdue getaway. The amount we (and everyone) pays to stay here does not match the accommodations and service. I would have felt better about our experience if we paid less and didn’t have the 5-star expectations as advertised.

We enjoyed our week stay at The American Club . I would consider it “ modified 5 star” due to Covid, but still excellent. Pros- Beautiful property, gardens, and area, fabulous showers, great fitness center, shuttle service is superb, personnel are very nice and accommodating, food was excellent, spa was one of the best we’ve been to, the 6% resort fee includes valet parking too. Cons- No nightly turn down service unless asked for ( sometimes we forgot so it would have been nice to have it automatically taken care of), we would have liked to sit in the beautiful gardens to read or visit with our friends but the wrought iron chairs are extremely uncomfortable. I would suggest they invest in cushions that can be brought outside upon request, if you want an outdoor pool- there isn’t one. There is an indoor pool but it was full of kids when we were there. Tip- if you are there for the Spa know that there is a $50/ day charge to use the spa if you do not have services booked that day. If you stay at Kohler’s Carriage House, attached to the spa, you can access the spa daily at no charge even if you do not have any service scheduled. We would recommend this resort and would love to return.
