    Almost perfect!
This was our first visit to the village of Kohler and the American Club. We stayed in the Carriage House in a Heritage King room. It was very spacious, comfortable bed, awesome soaking tub and separate shower with two heads! The complimentary evening appetizers with drinks were delicious! Raw veggies with hummus, cheese/crackers, salami, chicken salad, beer, wine, soda and water. Continental breakfast was more than enough; boiled eggs, bagels, granola, fresh fruit cups, cold cereal, muffins/pastries, chia seed pudding, overnight oatmeal. Plus, various juices, coffee, tea and milk. Afternoon tea offered many varieties of sweets along with your cup of tea. Plush robes and slippers are provided which are so nice if you use the spa. Change in your room and skip the locker room. Nightly turndown service is a nice added touch! The elevator was always there as soon as we touched the button for service, ample parking right across from the entrance to the Carriage House, walking distance to the Design Center and the shopping area. My only complaint is they were out of honey for tea each day of our 3 night stay. I inquired about it and was simply told “we don’t have any”. For the price you pay you shouldn’t have to purchase honey when tea is available throughout the day and evening. The candy that’s available for purchase in the room honors bar was not fresh and just about to the expiration date. One box of toffee that I opened was melted and stuck together.
Dear SusieO1957, Thank you for your candid feedback. I am glad to hear you enjoyed your room accommodations at the Carriage House. I apologize that we did not meet your expectations during afternoon tea, as well as the honor bar offerings, as this is not up to our standards. I will pass this information along so that we can ensure this does not happen again. I hope you rejoin us in the future so that we may regain your trust. Kindly, Shawn K. Weekend Getaway
This place was such a fantastic getaway. I booked here on a whim, based solely on the covid precautions this resort is taking (that I read from reviews). We drove almost 7 hours from Michigan, and it was well worth it. I did not realize when we booked how fancy it was here and I feel terrible for not pulling cash out for tips. When we arrived, Cain carried our bags and escorted us to our room as it was through 2 courtyards and we’d never stayed there. Cain was so kind and welcoming that we knew from the start we made a good decision on staying here. From the staff who checked us in, to The Greenhouse (most adorable coffee shop on the planet!) to The Horse and Plow cheese curds, and of course, the room, everything was OUTSTANDING. We have hopes to return once a year and stay in a suite next time. We appreciated all of the covid precautions the staff were following— a lot of places say they’re taking precautions but then you arrive and nothings changed, this hotel was not one of them. They were on it with keeping occupancy in areas low, wearing masks, and gloves, temp checks at check in, extra cleaning- everything. Our experience for my birthday weekend was spectacular. A much needed escape. Also, we sat in the downstairs lobby area and watched the history of Kohler- that was also excellent. LOVE this place!
Dear 649lindsaym, Thank you very much for your recent visit to The American Club at Destination Kohler and for your lovely review! It is a joy to learn you had an outstanding time and a great birthday celebration. We are looking forward to welcoming you back soon! Warmest regards, Ruben Cambero Sedano

    Wonderfully Relaxing
My husband and I stayed at The American Club for our anniversary. We are very Covid conscious and were nervous about staying in a hotel, but we were reassured by staff before coming that they are taking Covid very seriously. And they were spot on. We were able to check in and go to our room without any troubles. They have made some wonderful modifications to happy hour and breakfast that allows for minimal contact. We were able to order dinner from a resort restaurant without issue as well. Our room had an amazing 2-person tub and luxurious shower in which we were able to spend a relaxing, romantic evening. We will definitely return!
Dear 495carlyk, Thank you for the lovely feedback. Navigating a consistent luxury experience for our guests while also executing pandemic safety standards has been a challenge our team has successfully managed, and I am glad your comfort level with our safety measures allowed you to relax and enjoy your stay. We look forward to your return! Kindly, Shawn K. Dortman Resident Manager - The American Club & Inn on Woodlake | Destination Kohler

Sure this is a nice place (perhaps one of the nicest hotels in the U.S.) but what makes this special is the over the top service by the well trained and dedicated staff. Not just friendly, but very good at their jobs - and responsive. Follow-up / follow-through like nowhere we've ever seen.

The staff at the American Club was beyond incredible. From the moment you check in, pick up your car, return to the resort, all spot on. The spacious room was lovely, comfortable bed, cozy comforter. During the afternoon rain they had games out in the main area and live background music at all times. Even though we booked months in advance there were no spa appointments available. This was rather disappointing. I am surprised they don't reserve some availability for guests. The food was a huge disappointment. The Wisconsin Room, Horse and Plow and room service were severely lacking top to bottom; food quality and staff training. Robert in Horse and Plow was a welcome standout with great service and beer recommendations. The cheese curds are delicious, meatloaf ok. The restaurants outside of the main grounds required a resort fee to make a reservation that was not put toward your dinner. We ordered room service our last night. The food was cold (it can happen with room service) but the shrimp cocktail was actually still frozen. Bottom line, the resort is gorgeous, the grounds are very well maintained and quite spectacular in spring. The staff is incredibly professional and very well trained. You will just need to eat elsewhere.

We come and stay at the American Club a lot and love it. We are members of River Wildlife so we love to come and stay one night with our family and eat at River Wildlife. I'm not a big review-writer but this visit was just so extra special. The service exceeded our expectations the entire time we were there. We were greeted at the door by very friendly doormen and front desk personnel. We stayed in two joining room with our 4 children ages 8-15 - the rooms were 268 and 270 -- lovely adjoining rooms that are very spacious and the bathrooms (of course) are incredible. I always love the Hollyhock scented toiletries. I took my kids to the SportsCore area and the pool is so nice and it opens out onto a big patio that is on a beach to a small lake swimming area. It was beautiful -- the whole facility was really nice and, again, excellent and friendly service. We returned to the hotel and in the very classy bar area just off the front desk area they were making some special complimentary throw-back drink called a sidecar. I went in just to get one to go and everyone was sitting in the bar listening to a piano player - everyone really seemed to be enjoying themselves. The bartender was super friendly. And as a bonus some family was in there that happened to be super musical so they were singing along with the piano player and it was AMAZING. I got back to our room and realized that I had forgotten my toothbrush and razor -- I called the front desk and within 5mins they had brough be up in a nice little pearly bag a real normal sized toothbrush and travel size crest, a NICE razor that didn't tear my legs apart - Bic Soleil I think, and a travel sized shaving cream. I was shocked -- such a lovely surprise. Most hotels have the cheapest stuff possible. Then our dinner at River Wildlife was amazing!! After dinner I got a bottle of wine from the bar to take to our room and the bartender INSISTED on walking with me to the room to help me. This stay, even only one night, was just so lovely and exceeded our expectations over and over again.

Kohler truly is a little slice of heaven, it’s perfect in every way. We have been a handful of times, but this was our first trip in more than 12 years. Not much has changed which is part of the charm and also what makes this place so timeless. The rooms in the carriage house are beautiful, the spa is absolutely fantastic and the food is delicious. Everything about the entire village is perfect. We absolutely love it here.

Don't bother inquiring about having a wedding here. My fiance and I really liked the American Club and it was on our top picks to have a wedding at. I sent an email asking for more information and got a response from the Wedding Sales Manager, Andrea, not long after. We had sent a few emails but she did not respond to them after the 3rd one. I waited a week and emailed the wedding inquiry page again and again, no response. I even ran into her at a Madison bridal expo when I was there looking for vendors and she was very short with me and told me she would get back to me and again, never did. Really disappointed in this venue and even more the lack of communication.

I had a great time at the American Club in December 2022! The property was decorated so nicely for Christmas and had such a relaxing atmosphere. My fiance and I were there celebrating our engagement and everyone was so welcoming. We got to ice skate by ourselves and got to do some Olympic Curling at one of the resorts they own on the property! Additionally, it was so nice that we received a box of chocolates and two bottles of wine to celebrate our engagement! I did have a small amount of time to check out the Sports Core Gym and the Spa and both amenities were very nice! We hope to come back for future celebratory events.

The American Club sells themselves on five star service and accommodations, but they fell short of that. While staff was friendly and highly professional, our issues included extremely long wait times for okay meals, an overcrowded spa, dingy dark outdated rooms, and dealing with the massive crowds for the Christmas market that happened to be the weekend we were there. The dining - we attempted to make dinner reservations two weeks in advance only to find out that their restaurants were fully booked....luckily the concierge was able to accommodate us after a few calls. However we did not realize we needed reservations for breakfast and had to wait over an hour to be seated the first day, then made a reservation our second day only to wait an hour past our reservation to be seated anyways. Didn't even attempt lunches. For dinner we selected the tasting menu at the Immigrant at >$250 per person and it was okay not great (mostly heavy meaty gamey dishes with not much creativity) and not in the same ballpark as tasting menus in our hometown Chicago that are less than half that price. Spa- an absolutely beautiful spa, however it was overcrowded due to a small birthday party. I was told to use spa facilities on weekends I had to book two full service treatments which I did for around $500 and was hoping to have some privacy, not wait in a line to use a toilet, not wait in line for the cold plunge, and not have to sit in a soaking tub totally overflowing from some of the fattest people I have ever seen. Meanwhile, my partner checked out the hot tubs in their sports/recreation center and ended up between two individuals eating Mcdonalds in the hot tub. Some good news is that I loved their nearby cycling class! The yoga class was almost great too however they did not cleans mats in between classes nor did they clean the floor so I was between puddles of other people's sweat on an already used stinky wet mat. Overall it was a decent experience but definitely not a destination experience.

I know the reviews are all over the map on this place and was hoping to give it 5 stars, but there were just too many things where it fell short for a 5 Star property which it advertises itself as. The staff here is very welcoming and helpful. We checked in early because of spa appointments. Our room wasn't ready, which was not a surprise and so we left our luggage with the bellman. When I got the call that the room was ready I went to the front desk and was given a key and told that my luggage would be brought up shortly. When I got to the room, it had not been made up. The front desk manager got involved after a series of unfortunate events and after another hour the room was ready. We had two meals on property - dinner at Black Wolf Run restaurant which was good and breakfast in the Wisconsin Room where the service was excrutiatingly slow even though the room was only half full. (See restaurant reviews) The concierge and bell staff were stellar. Our car was ready quickly when we needed it to go to the John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan and the Art Preserve in Kohler. (Highly recommend both these places) We had dinner on our second night at Lino Ristorante Italiano in Sheboygan on the river, which was delicious and delightful. Our room at The American Club was very comfortable and the shudders and blackout curtains made for a perfect night's sleep. The bathroom, as you would expect, was excellent including the tub. Services at the spa are expensive, but according to my daughter, were the best she ever experienced. I think that the glitches during our stay were likely due to staffing issues which all businesses are struggling with and so I won't hesitate to make a return trip.

We are staying at the American Club and attending the Kohler Food & Wine Festival. We last attended this event 11 years ago. I am sorry to say that this facility appears to have not changed at all in the last 11 years. We are staying in a room that does not have adequate hot water to even take a hot shower, much less fill the beautiful jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. The decor in the bedroom is outdated by at least 20 years and it shows. The television provided in the room sits in an armoire and even when pulled all the way out is not comfortably seen from the bed. As far as the festival events, things definitely seem to have downgraded since we were last here. One of the events we attended today, Burgers & Wines, the burgers were already sitting out at our place settings when we arrived and were stone cold….not a great match for any wine! The kickoff event we attended on Thursday evening was lackluster and provided little in the way of entertainment beyond the food and wine available for tasting. The Taste of the Vine event, usually held in the dazzling Kohler Design Center, has been moved to the same space as the event we went to on Thursday night, the Beacon Center, which is a mile off property and offers nothing in the way of entertainment. It appears to be a partially finished space perhaps used for catalogue photo shoots??? So our anticipation for this evening is that it will be a repeat of last night, but with a few more options as far as food and wine, but with a much higher price tag. Overall, I would rate this property and experience 3 star, at best, which is a huge disappointment. We have attended several Food & Wine Festivals here in the past and always came away more than pleased with the hotel and the experience. Not this time.
