Wow. This is going to be a long review. Lets start with the check in process. There is one person working the front desk (okay its COVID times so thats completely expected), but most of the rooms we had reserved were wrong. We were booked directly with the hotel, so none of the 'expedia messed up' it was the hotel directly. They told the bride we were with they did not have any bridal suites, the best best had the same room reserved, checked in right after her and was able to get that same room category. So they just bluntly lied. If you are handicap, this is not the hotel for you. There is A LOT of walking to get to each floor and room. While they do have some elevators, if they are working, find somewhere else The smell. The hotel is being renovated, but they could not get rid of the smell of mildew and mold. Our buddy stayed in a room next to us and i wouldn't even let my two year old go inside because it smelled like weed so bad. i am unsure if they actually even clean the rooms. Our sheets had hair on them. Our fridge was broke. Again with a two year old so have to have a fridge for milk. they did replace the fridge so us, but it never got cold enough. (I attached some photos of the gross rooms) The service.. WOOF. there were maybe 5 other tables at both the lunch and breakfast restaurants when we went. It took 45 minutes for our breakfast (pancakes and yogurt) and an hour for our lunch to come out. the lunch at least came our before our drinks were served ha! I was here for a wedding and let me tell you the wedding coordinators here are a JOKE. I work in the industry myself and i cannot say enough bad things about them. Its almost laughable. Our friends wedding had to be moved inside due to weather (not the resorts fault at all). When she asked if the flower girls could throw flowers they responded "I guess, but we will just have to pick them up" oh you will have to do your job? wow. She was promised a bridal suite, they did not give it to her instead was given a complimentary lunch HA. The table where her parents were sat was wrong even though she had given them the exact table numbers and who would be at each table. so the father of the bride had to sit at a different table. The service was just god awful. If you are planning on staying here don't. if you are planning on getting married here RUN FOR THE HILLS. esp if stephanie adamski is your planner. It also took 3 months just to get a room block here.. shouldve been a red flag right there.…
I saw an advertisement for $99/night rooms at this resort. Thought we would give it a try and stay a couple of days. Room was average and showed its age. Noisy HVAC, noisier bath fan, it sounded like a small plane taking off. Bathroom tile was old and not well maintained (see photo). Most annoying part was at check in. Arrived about 40 minutes before official "check in" at 4pm. Told I could not get in the room unless I paid a $25 fee for early arrival. I understand this if the hotel is busy and still getting changed over from previous guests, but this was not the case. I estimate maybe a 10% occupancy the couple of days we were there. Our building in particular only had a couple of rooms occupied. I've never been told to wait by a hotel if the rooms were ready and available.
Simply awesome - 5 stars all around! Stephanie and her team made the impossible; possible! The newly refurbished rooms in the building adjacent to the lobby are beautiful; sloped 30 ft. ceilings, and a balcony overlooking the grounds and marina that goes on forever! The food is excellent, and room service is fast and efficient. Can't wait to visit the Avani Spa this week!!
To preface this: we visit annually and spend the entire day at the spa immersed in treatments and the proceed to have dinner at the resort hotel. Additionally, we know there is a no “outside” food rule but the staff has always encouraged us to bring our own bites without issue. This year, we along with others there were told to remove our bags with snacks, very haughtily. Another guest nearby told us she’d been there for days without issue. The staff was incredibly rude, leaving a bad taste at their treatment and a promise from us to never return. They just experienced a remodel but truly only looks as if everything was painted. No major changes. Disappointed at the attitude, the spa & the loss of an annual retreat here. I’ll add a picture of their remodeling filth that can be seen when entering/exiting the spa.…
My sister and I were soooo looking forward to staying at The Abbey Spa and Resort! We arrived and were not greeted with a smile and good vibes, ok?....We were told where to park, only to discover a dumpster overflowing with debris from old room furniture and along the path (with stairs) we noticed multiple rooms that had been upheaved of it's furniture, which was tossed around the grounds, around the parking lot. We were offered NO assistance with our luggage (I am disabled) and it took forever to find our room, which we were hoping was one of the recenlty renovated ones, but it was not! We tried going into the gift shop, but we didn't have our medical masks because the mandate's been lifted, however, there was a sign posted stating that masks were required! We thought, oh well, let's try the s'mores around the bonfire activity, to which were told we could only have 1 ration, because of Covid 19?? (give me s'more!) And the dining experience proved that it was an all-around-the-old-porperty-vibe to not offer customer service. I was served a lukewarm Cosmo, and we never ordered entrees because we weren't asked about our cocktails or appetizers! The next day was spa day!! How exciting, right?? Wrong!! The spa was freezing due to a malfunctioning door that caused a major draft and the whirlpool was not working! Didn't they JUST re-open, after a rejuvenation of their own? My special spa robe had tears in it and all over it, and we weren't given slippers, instead, we were given ice cold plastic sandals! Oh, and the furniture we saw laying on the dirt and in the parking lot? It was now in the spa!! The spa access alone is $30 per person, not room!! We wanted to go check out a different bar, which was supposed to be opened, but it was closed early that day (too) I really needed a cocktail because of the kids directly above us who woke us up promptly at 6:00am 3 days in a row! When I called the front desk, I was placed on hold for 7 minutes, only to be told we could, in fact, move BUT I had to go to the front desk immediately and there's no way anyone was available to assist me because they were very busy (it was 8:00am) We found out later that we could have used the main entrance, where there was a cart for our luggage and a way to our room! We were not told this upon check-in because it was a new-hire! Even a new-hire has a bad attitude? Makes me think it's the management! I even wanted to check out and go to a different hotel, but knew I would've been charged because of their cancellation policy. Save yourself the agony and go to a different hotel/spa....this got me more tense than relaxed, I'd rather drive in Chicago rush hour traffic for 5 hours that endure this scenarion, ever again. If you do go, BYOS'Mores! Also worth noting, there were no free bicycles! Can you guess why??…
Perfect place to spend 4 days! Upon check in Lee took our bags and Caroline was very professional and friendly at front desk. The lobby is just beautiful. We stayed in lakefront view room 1124 and found it to be very comfortable, clean and warm; bed was extremely comfortable. There is a great view and the grounds are so fun to walk and we love the outdoor fire pits. We barely left the 4 days we were there as so much to do: very large pool & hot tub, arcade, movie theater and bar & restaurant. Any time we ordered toiletries or towels we received them within 5 minutes - talk about excellent service - WOW. Every staff member we made contact with was super friendly and very professional. Highly recommend staying here and we will definitely return. 240 West restaurant was the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary dinner with seafood & prime rib and the live piano music was outstanding. The Waterfront bar had great sandwiches & fish fry friday night. Cannot say enough positive about The Abbey!…
We enjoyed our getaway. The inhouse restaurants were really nice. I would have to say the cheese curds from the Waterfront was the best I have ever had. Everyone we encountered were very nice and friendly along with being helpful. Only thing I didn't like was the furniture in the lobby and in the walkways. It was dated and some dirty. Overall, can't wait to return when the weather is better.
Would not recommend. For the price this place is tired. Lack of staff plus construction. No staff in Waterfront restaurant. Rude hostess, when I asked for crayons for my granddaughter she said the pencils needed sharpening and she would get to it. Nope. But she had time to chat and sip her drink. Yikes. No signs for handicap ramp. Will not be back
We spent about $200/night on a King Harbor room in the end of March/beginning of April, which is high $$ for this time. While it was fairly clean and the mattress was good (important for me!), the room was kind of sad - there were only 3 lamps in the whole room, making it very dark on a non-sunny day. The coffee table looked like someone had carved it with a knife, the clock/radio knob was broken off and the time was wrong, so I couldn't even fix it. In general it is old and outdated. I feel like this property is resting on its laurels. Also they have cut any housekeeping while you are there, so you are actually getting less for what seems like a higher price. Plus + it was fairly quiet at night, though when people were in the room below we did hear them yelling. The restaurants had good food, but overall I feel like it was kind of a disappointing stay for the money. Would not stay there again, especially in the off season.…
Within 50 miles of our home, the Abbey Resort has been and continues to be our favorite getaway place to refresh, renew, and reenergize. The rooms are cozy and the harbor view is beautiful. The spa is the finest in the Midwest and the food is good at all of there on-site restaurants. Area walking and on grounds activities round off the perfect escape to southeast, WI.
