Nestled in a prime spot that's a hit with guests for its close proximity to local dining and shopping, Hotel Retlaw, Trademark Collection by Wyndham, stands out for its blend of historical elegance and contemporary comforts. While the hotel's rooms garner compliments for their clean and historically charming design, some guests have pointed out less-than-stellar views and lighting. The hotel's ambiance is frequently described as regal and inviting, thanks to its beautifully adorned lobby and luxurious accommodations.
Cleanliness is a standout feature, with visitors consistently noting the spotless environment. Although opinions on value are split, with some guests questioning extra fees, the warmth and efficiency of the service staff receive high marks, contributing to an overall positive experience.

Detailed Reviews
Great hotel that has been totally updated/restored with gorgeous 1920's decor. Very clean, great staff, beautiful restaurant. Amenities are top shelf in quality. Unfortunately due to Covid, the restaurant and bar were not staffed in the evenings we were there because of weddings in the banquet rooms. They didn't have enough staff to do both. Our friends had dinner there on a Thursday and said the food was amazing. Breakfast was great as well. This was our second time staying there due to the proximity of Road America. We liked that they have free garage parking so our cars were not exposed to the elements. We plan to go back next year.

I grew up in Fond du Lac and have been inside this hotel several times over the past 40+ years. In it's prime this was a historic hotel that I'm sure was great for it's time but over the years became very run-down and dirty. When owned by Radisson and I think Clarion hotels the hotel still stayed in disrepair. Finally now that Wyndham owns the hotel it has gotten it's much needed and deserved renovation. The hotel is beautiful inside while still keeping the aesthetic of a historical hotel. The rooms are very nice inside and we especially love the 1 bedroom suites (although I wish they had a better view).
It's also in a great location to everything in town and to the park. You can walk to restaurants (Cellar District down the road is a great option). Parking is pretty easy in the attached ramp although you do need to walk outside to get into the hotel. But there is a cover over the walkway in case it's raining or snowing (but can be pretty chilly in the middle of winter). The bar is really nice and the bartenders very helpful in choosing drinks.
Front desk service has been great and we always get the exact room we request in our reservation.
The Cafe is open now but could use a bit more selection. The muffins were a bit dry and they were out of many things already by 9am even though the hotel wasn't that busy. Also the girl at the cafe didn't quite understand the $10 credit you got per room and had no idea how to deal with it. So some more training needed there.
This is our go-to hotel in Fond du Lac now when we are back visiting the family we have left in the area.

Having stayed here for the 2nd time in 2 months, we found this hotel to be enjoyable on a number of fronts. The downtown location affords convenient access to multiple points within the city. The rooms are well appointed and clean. The staff is incredibly friendly and went out of their way to accommodate our requests. I would strongly recommend this hotel.

THIS IS A HIDDEN GEM!!! Never in a million years would I have expected to have found myself in such a small quaint town for a wedding only to have stumbled across this luxurious castle like hotel in the middle of nowhere. It’s a old heritage building that they didn’t knock down but instead turned it into a blacky mystical setting. The staff is super friendly the rooms are insanely clean and you also get a ten dollar voucher to there main cafe toward a breakfast sandwich or coffee. The lounge is exceptionally breath taking with a big grand piano.

I can't rate this hotel five stars based on my experience there. Five stars means the hotel is pretty much perfect and that is just not the case, at least not for me. The noise coming from the AC was obnoxious and so loud that we could not hear the TV's or sleep at night. We had to turn ithem off because it was so bad. The initial room on the 4th floor looked okay but the bedroom looked right into the parking garage. We were moved to room 834 which looked abandoned, however the view was much better. The floors in this room were severely scratched, and the walls and painted surfaces were dirty and scuffed. The biggest issue was the water leaking from both showers. It took all the towels we had to clean up water after showering. We were moved to the Dilinger Suite which was very generous considering the rate per night but the room was really not appropriate for us. It was a conference room space that smelled of fresh paint that made me nauseous. There was no microwave and nothing on the counters but space. The huge dining room table served no purpose. The views were the best in the hotel but that's it. I actually would have rather stayed in a residential unit or a one-bedroom with showers that didn't have water flooding everything. One of the outlets near on the left bedside table looked like it had been pulled out but we fixed it. The lobby was nice and the restaurant was okay. I was disappointed with the experience to be completely honest. The only good thing was Joshua and how helpful and kind he was. Joshua, at the front desk, I believe he is a manager, was very nice and extremely helpful.

Front desk staff Emily and Hannah were wonderful. Rooms are adequate.
Daily room service was below average at best. They often left the room with dishes in them, no toilet paper, as well as other amenities. Bar and restaurant please do yourself a favor order in or go out because you will not get any good service at Either of the venues. I do understand short staffed but no staff and being closed is better than not being able to take care of the gas you already have in your facility. Let’s just say they were lazy and didn’t want to. Management, what management. Promotions Director was a nice lady tried to offer her apologies but as an owner myself, I don’t wanna hear excuses I just want to see results. If you can’t provide the results don’t be open or advertise that you are. This location has been under different management and ownership for many years since it’s opened. This is simply a tax write off and it’s a real shame for the employees that actually do care at the front desk. Take your business your celebrations and your leisure elsewhere.

A nice hotel. Such a great experience at check in. I didn’t grab her name, but she checked us in about 7/7:30pm on 12/31/21. She was friendly, knowledgeable and amazing! The other front desk employee (a female) who ran a few items up to us in room 402 on 1/1/22 and 1/2/22 (mid shift person?) she was great too! Came up within minutes with our items and so friendly!
You could tell the hotel was under staffed (everywhere is, so I totally get it) the lobby and hallway floors probably weren’t cleaned all weekend. Dirty glassware from previous nights kept piling up on every horizontal surface. (I felt bad that they probably didn’t have enough staff so I actually took it upon myself to pick up all the dirty glasses laying on the carpet on the 2nd floor and put them on a table) the room next to us was vacant and dirty, but propped open all weekend. Restaurant was closed on the 1st and 2nd, I assume due to low staffing. TV rising from the footbed is cool, but not really functional. It closed off the room and was way too close for us. Would’ve been better hanging on the wall. Closet door handle came off in my hand, but I just shoved it back on. I paid for a larger room, but it was just a regular room with a couch. Not really worth the extra cost. I LOVED the larger shampoo/conditioner/lotion!! And mouthwash too! That was a great touch!! It was a nice stay.

As a resident of Fond du Lac I can’t express how happy I am to have a hotel like this in my own city. This hotel has been closed since I moved here and it is finally open after renovations and it is beautiful. It looks like something that should be in Chicago and cost way more than it does. The price was awesome and we got a room with a bed that had a tv that goes up and down with a remote! I definitely recommend this hotel!

+1
I wanted to experience two historic hotels designed and built by the same people but renovated by different people. Both the Retlaw and Hotel Northland in Green Bay have been redone within the last four years.
Hotel Retlaw looks nice on the surface. The lobby is gorgeous. The rooms are not well planned and finishes are cheap. The pool and fitness center are both not completed although the hotel has been open for over a year. Please see pros and cons below.
Pros:
It was renovated rather than torn down. The lobby is gorgeous and the food at the restaurant is well above average for the area. The service from the front desk was pleasant and efficient.
The television that rises out of the footboard and swivels is nice. Picture is clear and channel selections are plentiful. Wi-fi is strong.
Cons:
Carpet was cheap, stained and not well vacuumed. The toilet is small, the seat didn't fit well and consequently did not stay up. The towels are squeezed in between the vanity and wall.
The door design is terrible. The room entry, closet and bathroom doors all open into each other.
The fitness center had no televisions. The pool has not been renovated and is not open.
My overall assessment and advice is to experience the lobby and dine in the restaurant but stay somewhere else for now.
Hotel Northland is of much higher quality. Please see separate review.

BuckyBadger123: I appreciate your detailed review of the Hotel Retlaw. Both Hotel Northland and Hotel Retlaw were designed by Walter Schroeder in the 1920's, he developed a total of 10 hotels throughout the Midwest. As both hotels are historic, some of the guestrooms in our hotel have a more unique layout to them. Our Regal King guestrooms offer the most amount of space and have a sofa in the guestroom. Not a great choice if you are travelling with small children, as the black-out curtains only cover half the windows, there is no bathtub (just a waterfall shower that sprays out the door onto the floor), and the air conditioning is loud and disruptive when it kicks on. I recommend staying as far away from floor 2 as you can if there is a wedding going on, as we were able to hear the bass from the reception music until after 11pm.
I also found the room layout strange...the bathroom had two half-doors, which if they were open all the way make it difficult to open the main hotel door. I also couldn't open the closet until I shifted the side table over. There is a small fridge but no microwave.
The front desk staff was very kind and helpful, and the free parking in the attached ramp was convenient.
