loved that this hotel was near Rio Tarcoles where we saw Osama a huge 16-foot 75 year old croc. we were lucky to see a couple of scarlet macaws mating as well as many ctenosaurs, green iguanas, cool looking frogs and birds in the area. my favorite was a large insect with a long proboscis sucking water drops that formed...

This was my 1st trip to Villa Lapas . I did not know what to expect but I was soon very happy with my choice. I was looking for a place to kick back, relax and see some wildlife. The hotel is 2 minutes off of the main highway leading south towards Jaco and Manuel Antonio. It is about 20 minutes...

First of all let me say the grounds are beautiful, the rooms large and the bathrooms large and updated. The issues with the property are mainly maintenance and upkeep. The electrical outlets in the rooms did not seem to be functioning. The wi fi, even in the lobby was down, people were told was supposed to be working in the...

The service was great and staff very friendly! If You love birds this is the place! Scarlet Macaws,Aracaris(looks like toucan), Pileated woodpeckers, and trogans to name the most popular on lovely property! Quite spacious and comfortable room in amazing location. TV was provided in the room which was an unexpected extra given the lack of it elsewhere in C Rica. Wildlife really good - painted bunting from the room was the highlight. In such a location the enormous spider and colourful cockroach in the bathroom were understandable. Less forgiveable was the washing...

What a lovely place - sitting on the terrace overlooking the river with a drionk in hand is just heaven! The rooms are small but more than adequate and the friendliness of the staff - and the owner - more than compensated! The food was the best we met on our tour - just wish we could have stayed longer...

Stayed at the Villa Lapas for 3 nights as part of a Costa Rica tour. The hotel is a small resort with lovely grounds where all sorts of wildlife is abundant, particularly the birds. The highlights were toucans, woodpeckers and humming birds..... no monkeys !! The rooms are on the small side, a bit dated but comfortable. Our room opened...

I have just spent three nights at the Villa Lapas as part of a tour of Costa Rica and I would happily have stayed for many more days. The rooms were beautiful, the food is good and the staff were all wonderfully kind and helpful. Above all it's a place of peace and tranquillity, where you can sit and walk...

We arrived in the early afternoon from Monteverde after being dropped off by the bus. The grounds are beautiful as one would expect from being next to Carara. The reception, bar & restaurant are in a breezy open air area with views of the garden. The rooms are on the small side which was fine as we spent most of...

The Villa Lapas lodge is quite nice: it has a nice garden, a very nice swimming pool, and friendly personnel. Also, the room and mattresses were okay. Additionally, quite some iguana's are walking around. On the other hand, the lodge did not meet my expectations. The reason is that it is, and in my opinion, overly expensive. Additionally, it are...
