We spent 3 nights a Villa Lapas and we're quite disappointed. Place felt abandoned...out dated and in need of repair. Generally it seemed like it was a really nice place once but seemed to have been neglected for some time. The food was poor...ran out of hot water in our room and had to request it be repaired. We were...

Villa Lapas Hotel, Carara, 11th March 2015; length of stay, 3 nights Good location in narrow valley with river flowing beside; accommodation in units set along length of short valley. Lovely reception/lounge area, large terrace outside restaurant area overlooking the river (we liked it there) with lush forest on all sides. Nice swimming pool and gift shop. Impressive bird list...

Ticked the right boxes, nice room although a bit tight for space, comfortable bed. Good food at the restaurant. Small but welcome swimming pool. A bit remote but close to the Carara National Park and good for the River boat cruises - you do require transport to go anywhere. Our beverages were 'paid for' so by showing a token we...

This is an amazing place with amazing people working here and a very special vibe. Villa Lapas is located in a beautiful area and also relatively central to many different places in costa rica. It is convenient to make this place you start of point from once you land in San jose till them end of your trip. The rooms...

This property is amazing if you are a nature lover. The rooms are basic but you won't care as the surroundings are truly beautiful. Many varieties of birds come & go . . truly fascinating & is probably the property's biggest asset. There is plenty of nice walking in the grounds with iguanas accompanying you!! . Food served was buffet...

Well located for Carara NP and close to nature with many birds and iguanas in grounds. Bar area overlooked river and was pleasant. Rooms were basic but just OK. Food was poor and of limited quality and variation over the period we were there.

If you stay here, then it will be for the wildlife (unless you're seriously lost). Very close to Carara National Park and the Tarcoles River, it's really the only sensible hotel to stay for that part of the country. Despite some rumours and reviews of rather tired accommodation, we had some reservations. But in fact we were very pleasantly surprised...

We chanced upon this hotel for a single night's stay in January of 2015. It truly is surrounded by jungle and a bend in the Tarcoles River, and as others have stated, the jungle looks like it constantly wants the land back. Our rooms were large, A/C'd, and quite comfortable, and the staff was very helpful and friendly. But I...

I visited this all-inclusive hotel as part of a package to Costa Rica. The hotel is in a lovely setting but is looking a little shabby in places. Bird-watching in the hotel grounds is excellent and there are some lovely trips in the region - the Carara National Park where we saw scarlet macaws, for example. Food was adequate, if...

I spent one night at this hotel and my overall impression is that the experience can be improved in so many ways. First of all, it is "all inclusive", but that just means you will have 3 meals, coffee and nachos around 1 hour during the afternoon, national beer and very bad quality cocktails. The staff is doing all they...
