I would give this 4 stars, but I know what most Americans expect. March. Get up early and be prepared for heat and humidity by mid-morning. Room has a ceiling fan; bed/bathroom, though simple, is super clean and comfortable. The grounds are well kept, nature trails run directly out of the gardens. We enjoyed taking our buffet breakfast to a... More

I loved this hotel. It felt very authentic. You would need transport as it is isolated. The rooms were clean, large and air conditioned. The grounds are beautiful with wildlife on your doorstep. Restaurant is buffet which suited me very well and a good range to choose from. Staff excellent.

In a beautiful location (the hotel is set in the forest near a river), it is very charming. But the hotel itself is a disappointment. Rooms are big but without comfort and without charm. Service is poor and the restaurant is not inviting. I did not even try the food, apart from the breakfast which was varied and altogether good... More

Really enjoyed Villa Lapas, the staff are very friendly and helpful, the room was excellent and the grounds great for exploring. There is even a church set against a rainforest backdrop and lots of wildlife to see. Breakfast plentiful and on the whole a very good stay.

It was ok. If I were back in the area I would definitely try to find something different. Had terrible problem with spiders, large ones in our room. Ended up sleeping with the lights on & killing spiders at night. The mattress & box springs to our room were extremely old and very dirty. Was extremely thankful I had packed... More

We stayed here one night with a school group. The grounds were beautiful. The rooms were basic, but nice and very comfortable. I did not try the pools, but they looked lovely. Wifi only in the lobby and restaurant, but there was plenty of seating available.

This hotel was a treat. It is out in the sticks, no wardrobes ( but who wears clothes in Costa Rica which need hanging up?) the water is not recommended and remember the salad is washed in it -I didn't and paid for it for a day!- but the situation is wonderful. Scarlet macaws in the tree outside our room,... More

We stayed here for 2 nights with a group. The rooms were comfortable with lovely bathrooms. The grounds had incredible landscaping. Lots of frog calls at night! Saw a Red-eyed tree Frog after hearing it. Be sure to go across the bridge to the village replica. Food was also good with a decent variety.

Sidewalks and parking lot was all cover with moss (lack of maintenance) that make the site very slippery and dangerous, specially for old people. Two member of my group felt down on the slippery sidewalks. Also reception book our reservation wrong. They book only one night instead of two even if we were clear in our email 6 months ago.

Stayed here last week as part of Saga tour. 17 out of 21 in the group, plus tour manager and driver suffered from an on-going stomach bug, which many returned to the UK with. Rather than Saga giving us bottled water we had to fill our own bottles from a central source. Salads and fruit were not covered over, and... More
