Bayfield County: We took a little mini vaca to Bayfield County and this time stayed on the other side of the peninsula at Siskiwit Bay Lodge Bed and Breakfast. We've never stayed at a Bed and breakfast before and I loved it. The property is a luxury destination located on Lake Superior with 260 feet of shoreline. This beautiful lodge was built to reflect old-world craftsmanship all in a modern environment. Our guest rooms include gas fireplace, private balcony overlooking the lake, refrigerator, DVD, Wi-Fi. To start your day, breakfast included and served to your room. Also available a fire pit by the lake and a large great room with fireplace. Siskiwit Bay Lodge is ideal for a short get away to Door County. The sunset was amazing, the room clean and comfortable, the food was delicious! Bruce and Sandy very welcoming, just about perfect! Would definitely stay here again if we come back to the Apostle Islands.

We enjoyed every aspect of our stay at the lodge! The innkeepers, Sandy and Bruce, were attentive and sincere in making our stay comfortable and relaxing from making our reservation through checking out. Morning breakfast was homemade muffins or breakfast bread and fresh fruit or a yogurt parfait. The views were breathtaking and the property is meticulously maintained. 🌟 While there is no cable TV or streaming to TV available, they offer a plethora of DVDs to borrow free to watch in the room. The room and bathroom were spotless and the balcony offered beautiful views of Siskiwit Bay. We look forward to visiting again!

Absolutely amazing B&B on quiet Siskiwit Bay! The lodge is beautiful, as are the well kept grounds and views of the bay, along with amazing sunsets. Bruce and Sandy are wonderful hosts and are eager to share with everyone God brings through their front door. The breakfasts are wonderful and delivered right to your room (due to COVID). There are adirondack chairs around the property for watching the boats, reading a book, taking a nap, whatever!! The only downfall is the lack of restaurants in the area. If you are staying any length of time, traveling 1/2 hour to Bayfield becomes a necessity for meals other than breakfast that is included.

This property is stunning. We watched eagles fly outside our room, saw four ruffed grouse, took in beautiful sunsets, and enjoyed the amazing views of the lake. The property was sparkling clean and the breakfasts were outstanding.

My husband works with vulnerable populations, so outside our home and in enclosed spaces with others, we wear masks 100% of the time. The host greeted us and briefed us on the property maskless. Other guests also did not seem to wear masks outside of their rooms in shared spaces. This was disappointing.

I'm putting this out there so other people who do as much research on trip advisor as I do have the information they need to make a decision consistent with their comfort level.

If there is a lovelier and better location, accommodation, lodge, hosts and a more scrumptious continental breakfast on all of Lake Superior, I don't know where it is! The lodge and grounds are stunning. You will want to stay three or more nights if possible as we didn't want to leave! This is a superior bed and breakfast!

Wow…I love this place! It’s the perfect peaceful setting on Lake Superior. There was just something so renewing about sitting on their lake view adirondack chairs in the morning taking in the quiet sounds of nature. We stayed in Room #1 and it was very clean, spacious and comfortable. There is no AC but that was not an issue for us with a ceiling fan and an additional fan. We appreciated the Sleep Number bed after busy days hiking and walking around Bayfield. There is no cable, but there is a nice DVD selection if you want to wind down and watch a movie like we did. The breakfasts (served in your room) are delicious! And while the setting and accommodations are amazing, they don’t compare to the hospitality from the owners. Sandy is so caring and accommodating, truly one of the best people I’ve met. Treat yourself and stay here, it is a special place!

What a lovely and peaceful place to stay. We (my husband and I) enjoyed a quick end of summer getaway to kayak. The sunset was amazing, the room clean and comfortable, Bruce and Sandy very welcoming, just about perfect! Would definitely stay here again if we come back to the Apostle Islands.

This is indeed a beautiful, picturesque lodge right on the shores of Lake Superior. The breakfast was great, the rooms are very nice, and the interior design is just perfect. The view is stunning. It would be an absolutely perfect place to have a wedding. That said, they are not comfortable with same sex couples, and they flat out said that they were not comfortable with us having our family there to celebrate our wedding. So if you're straight, have fun. If you're gay, they are nice enough but a bit chilly, and don't think you can have a wedding there despite a large wedding section on their website. I wouldn't suggest giving these people your business if you're uncomfortable with the idea of them refusing to have a same sex marriage while promoting traditional weddings.

This lodge is extremely beautiful and clean, but that's where the positives end. We drove to Siskiwit Bay (16 hour drive) and upon check-in immediately felt uncomfortable. They had rules that were not made clear until check in, when money is NOT refundable. I went to Cornucopia for a family gathering with my children, only to find out, upon arrival that my children were not welcome. A rule this extreme should have been made CRYSTAL CLEAR when the reservations were booked. We had a total of 4 children between 2 families that were left without a comfortable place to stay. Thankfully they were able to stay at a cabin with family but that made things very inconvenient and uncomfortable - especially for our young kids. I just wonder what would have happened if we didn't have that option for them... Based on the rest of our stay, I'm guessing that they would have told us to find another place (while not refunding our $).

Throughout our stay we felt we were a bother to our hosts instead of being treated as their paying guests/customers. We never really connected with them - but how could you when you are constantly stressed because your family is separated.

We understand that this is also their home but driving 16 hours for a relaxing vacation turned into an icy reception followed by a week of stress and inconvenience. Make sure you read the fine print and policies before you book. This is NOT a family friendly place.

Response from siskiwitbay, Owner at Siskiwit Bay Lodge Bed and Breakfast

This comment is a good example to those looking for B&B lodging with children. These are our suggestions from this experience. When making a reservation at a bed and breakfast it is wise to check the policy and information on the B&B website or call the Innkeepers. It is even more important to contact the Innkeepers yourself when someone else is making a reservation on your behalf as was the case for this customer. Our policy and information page clearly states guidelines regarding children, cancellations and much more. It was upon your arrival to the lodge that we learned of your assumption that we allow small children at our bed and breakfast (it was never addressed by the brother in law who made the reservation one month prior to arrival – he even apologized to you while you were checking in). We kindly explained that we accommodate children 14 and older. At that time your mother-in-law thoughtfully offered to care for the children at the family cabin, where the family was gathering for a reunion. I hardly agree that we were unkind to you during your stay. With the family reunion being the big event during your time with us, our paths rarely connected as you left early and arrived late. The breakfast table is always a delightful time to visit with our guests and so we enjoyed visiting with you, your husband, his brother, his wife and your mother-in-law the first of four mornings. How unfortunate that you chose not to have breakfast after that. As a courtesy to the Innkeepers, it is important to notify them the night before if you are unable to attend breakfast…this is also mentioned on the in-room guest information sheet. We went above and beyond accommodating all of your family’s requests during your stay! Again, it is very unfortunate that you did not contact us before you came to our B&B; it would have saved you a great deal of anxiety and stress.

After reading the other reviews I was really not expecting to be disappointed by this B&B. Although the room was very clean and the owners friendly enough, I did not feel it lived up to the raving reviews I had read. After shoving our way through a front door that sticks and needs repair, I was surprised to see only silk flowers throughout the B&B when the countryside is gorgeous with amazing Lupine. There is no substitute for fresh flowers. The two breakfasts we had were mediocre. I am a very good baker and cook and I was surprised to see one plate made up for each guest with one small portion on them. No gooey caramel rolls or bacon to be had here, not to mention toast, waffles, pancakes, nor crepes. It was definitely food that the owners made up the night before and bake each morning would be fine if it was splendid. The sausage type of patty we were served was something you would see in a school cafeteria and the ham was one slice of thinly sliced Buddig folded with a toothpick in it. I guess if I were making breakfast such an integral part of my business I would make sure to use some fabulous local meats and really spoil my guests. When we asked directions to get to our concert, we were given directions for a road that was closed ten miles in. We were late for the concert because we had to go on a twenty mile detour and take another route on top of that. The location is paradise on a bay of Lake Superior. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and were just underwhelmed by our weekend at the Siskiwit Bay B&B.

Response from siskiwitbay, Owner at Siskiwit Bay Lodge Bed and Breakfast

Dear Guest, This was a difficult comment to read as we know we took care to satisfy your personal request: ie. Provided a vase for the flowers you brought into the lodge and after we served breakfast to the table, your husband asked instead that we serve it to your room - which we gladly did. The only item we could not accommodate was your request to stay past check out time as we had more guests on the way. In response to your comments we offer the following: - Our entry door is wood and sometimes, depending on humidity and temperature, it will stick. Always has - always will. - We do have a select assortment of silk flowers as part of our decor along with live plants. We choose not to put wild flowers in the guest rooms as a consideration to those with allergies. Frequently we have fresh flowers at our breakfast table. - We serve a large variety of breakfast foods and meet the need for those with special diets. We have and do serve the items mentioned in the review except for toast and waffles. We use local products as much as possible and everything is made fresh each morning with the exception of items that require refrigeration overnight before baking. Our most frequent comments at breakfast are "this is a perfect portion" (we do offer additional portions with some breakfasts) and "this is wonderful - may I get the recipe?". - I apologize again for the directions as I did when you told us the next day that the road was closed. We had guest 2 days earlier that used the road with no problem so I was as surprised as you were. Again, my apologies. We are happy you like our location on Lake Superior and your room and found us to be friendly. We, too, enjoyed visiting with you. We hope your next anniversary trip exceeds your expectations!

You have to plug in the date in their website - it also depends on what room your wanting. The suite is the most expensive but has more room and a kitchen - takes the whole upper side of the lodge. If you plug the date/room, you can get the rates. They normally have a 4th night at 1/2 price too.
