We stayed in the original lodge, which has smaller rooms, but they are up-to-date and comfortable. This is not a sterile, run-of-the-mill chain hotel. It's quite charming with an attached restaurant which serves great food. The service at the hotel was fantastic. I felt really cared for as a customer. I hope to return soon.

A 3-star stay, but I bumped it up to 4 stars for the service. My husband and I stayed here when visiting Door County to celebrate our anniversary. This was not our first choice, as we hoped to be closer to Fish Creek or Ephraim, but it was the weekend of Fall Fest in Sister Bay, and very few hotels still had availability when booking. Upon arriving, the front desk staff were pleasant and friendly. We had a suite on the first floor. Our suite had a living area with couch, TV and mini fridge, and a separate bedroom with king bed and bathroom including large jacuzzi tub. It's a bit dated, but it was clean, and the bed was very comfortable. It would've been nice to have a TV in the bedroom. Our only issue during our stay was our neighbors. At least 5 women stayed in the room next to ours (which should have only had two people), and they arrived back to their room after midnight drunker than skunks. The walls were so thin we might as well have been in the same room...we could hear every word. At one point my husband went to their door and politely asked them to quiet down, to no avail. No apology, and then complaining to their friends about the guy next door. We knew the hotel was booked, but decided to mention it at the front desk the following day anyway. They felt bad and were very apologetic. Later that day we found a gift certificate under our door good for Thyme restaurant, which is connected to the Lodge. What a nice gesture! We used it for breakfast the following morning. This hotel is good for golfers, as there is a golf course on site. If you don't mind a slightly outdated hotel that's 15 minutes drive from the heart of Door County, Maxwelton is worth considering.

I have been coming to Door County for many years. This is my first stay here. I do like the historical feel of the hotel. I like that is just outside the busy towns and is quiet. The staff is very friendly, the food is excellent, rooms are clean. My only suggestions would be to have the maintenance person pay a little more attention to detail. Such as repairing small holes in the walls, clean up of a sloppy paint job (particularly in the bathroom at the door handle cover plate, hinges and trim), replacing the shower head and very out of place tiny fan (with a larger one)over the bed. Those items would not deter me from coming back. It is a very nice place!

This was our first time in Door County and we booked only a week in advance, so we could not get anything on the water. We were not disappointed though. Our room had a fireplace and a nice view to the golf course. Very quiet and peaceful. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fantastic. We did not have a chance to have dinner at the hotel but the menu looked excellent. We have found a place to come back next time we go back to the Upper Peninsula

We stayed in one of the Fairway cabins, 1950's built units overlooking the golf course. These have a living room and bedroom, nice space with large windows. These are not modernized but very clean and comfortable. I like the charm and feeling of days gone by but this may not be for everyone. It was a little musty but a small candle took care of that. The location was great, we biked over to the bay side of Door County, beautiful! We had an excellent breakfast at the Thyme restaurant at the lodge. The lodge has some great history as well. I enjoyed our stay and would recommend the cabins for a good value and nostalgic feel!
