The room and ensuite were immaculate and spacious. The team are friendly and incredibly considerate ( offering extra fans, sheet instead of a duvet - heatwave ). The food is delicious, well presented and imaginative. The pool was the perfect tonic for a sweltering day, particularly with a g&t.

Fabulous restaurant with rooms, just stayed 2 nights while we visited a few old haunts on the Norfolk Broads. Chris the owner was very attentive and friendly while not intrusive. Absolutely fabulous food. Definitely no need to go anywhere else for dinner and it was nice that the menu changed on the 2nd evening. Will definitely return.

We stayed in a lovely room overlooking the garden. It was large, clean, and (in an English Spring) warm. The food at dinner was outstandingly good. The wine list was interesting. The wines by the glass of good quality. The table service excellent. Breakfast was excellent. The overall price extremely reasonable. I have recommended the place to friends who have... More

Only stayed for one night, would loved to have stayed longer and sampled more of the evening menu. Chris and his staff were very helpful and informative about the menu, wines and the locale. Breakfast was freshly cooked and just the right amount of everything...not piles of stuff....perfect.

My husband and I stayed for 1 night at the beginning of July. I wish we could have stayed longer. The hotel and garden are beautiful. Dinner was lovely and Chris keeps a good cellar. What made our stay so pleasing was the thought that Chris and Sally put in. We didn't have to ask for or about anything, everything... More

The owner was very pleasant and helpful with respect to lodging matters, things to do in town and places to eat. We had a room one flight up with a large balcony, overlooking beautiful grounds. The breakfast was cooked to order and was very good. The location is several miles from downtown but is easy to get to by car.... More

Stayed for a weekend trip to Norwich, the location and buildings are beautiful and we were given a lovely welcome. Don't be put off staying in the 'small' double, it is more than big enough and I loved the touches of fluffy bathrobes and nice soap and shampoo in the bathroom. Breakfast was delicious and really great quality, and they... More

From the warm welcome we received upon arrival to the time we left we felt very much at home in The Old Rectory. Beautiful setting - our room was in the Coach House which is not part of the main house but approached up a stairway from doors out of the conservatory and gardens Our room was exceptionally clean, lovely... Located in a beautiful house with history. Chris gave us a warm welcome. He even proposed to make us a cheese-plate altough the restaurant was closed. And he gave us a good tip to have a drink and some food in a local pub. The room was beautiful decorated and the bathroom was spacious. The breakfast was excellent! The private... More

From the moment we closed the car door on arrival we were greated by our host Chris, and after entering the front door immediately felt at home.Chris showed us around and then to our spacious bedroom(room4) which was like the rest of the house beautiful and spotlessly clean. The staff are friendly but discrete and the food is simply superb. Would we... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Old Rectory, Norwich's only AA 4* Gold 'Restaurant with Rooms' is a beautiful Georgian House, with adjoining Victorian Coach House, standing in an acre of mature secluded gardens on the eastern fringes of Norwich, overlooking the Yare valley and Thorpe Marshes nature reserve . We offer warm hospitality and friendly service to discerning travellers in a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. Every morning, you can enjoy a delicious breakfast, cooked to order and served to your table. Our menu features local sausages, bacon, ham and eggs, Chef's own toasted muesli, thick yoghurt with home-made fruit compote, and artisan bread from a Norwich baker. Our Dining Room is open Tuesday to Saturday evenings (closed Sunday / Monday), with a daily changing 2 AA Rosette menu featuring freshly prepared, locally sourced, seasonal produce. The elegant intimate, Georgian panelled room has just six tables so be sure to book dinner in advance as we regret we cannot guarantee availability of a table, nor a particular time, where dinner reservations have not been made prior to arrival. The Old Rectory is 2 miles from Norwich railway station (services to London, Cambridge, the Norfolk Coast and intermediate stations) and the city centre with its Norman Castle and Cathedral, medieval churches, excellent shopping facilities and open air market. Norwich International Airport (flights to Manchester, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and international flights via the KLM hub at Amsterdam Schipol) is 5 miles. The Norfolk Broads National Park and the sandy beaches of the east coast are a short drive, and many historic houses, nature reserves, gardens etc are within easy reach. ... more   less
