When all you have as reference about rural UK is the Brit Coms, you sometimes wonder if the charm really does exist. I'm here to tell you that it absolutely does at The Old Rectory. The staff compliments the charm of the location and the facility. My travel agent fell in love with the REAL customer service of Chris as...

We really enjoy staying here for a number of reasons - owners Chris and Sally ensure a warm welcome to their hotel and they've built a well deserved reputation. The jewel in the crown is the food cooked by James - what a chef! We have never had a disappointing dinner there and single-handedly he produces some fabulous dishes with...

From the moment we arrived until our departure we were treated with the utmost care and attention and the food was exquisite ! Chef to be commended ! Drawing room with wood burner...

Five of us went for lunch. It was pre-ordered which can sometimes be disappointing. The restaurant was decorated beautifully, service (despite them being very busy) was excellent and the food very good. Outstanding.

I am pleased to say that over the last 5 years I have always enjoyed my stays at the Old Rectory. Chris and Sally are always very welcoming. The food is always to a very good standard. Very much feels like home from home.

We only visited for a meal with friends but we were very disappointed with the meal and service, both were mediocre. Such a shame as we had high hopes from the reviews but certainly would not return. Lovely sitting room but that was all unfortunately.

2nd time of staying, Chris and his team were very welcoming- you can't beat being sat in the drawing room having a beer brought to you whilst in front of the fire after a days work! Not to mention dinner, which was fresh and delicious- Beef with Parsnip and Celeriac mash was a particular highlight with the homemade terrine to...

Arrived on a cold and wet November evening. Received a very warm welcome and a free upgrade!! Room was fabulous and the bed was so comfy. Breakfast fantastic, all waitress served. All staff we met were fantastic. Will definitely stay there again and also try the restaurant.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Old Rectory, Norwich's only AA 4* Gold 'Restaurant with Rooms' is a beautiful Georgian House, with adjoining Victorian Coach House, standing in an acre of mature secluded gardens on the eastern fringes of Norwich, overlooking the Yare valley and Thorpe Marshes nature reserve . We offer warm hospitality and friendly service to discerning travellers in a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. Every morning, you can enjoy a delicious breakfast, cooked to order and served to your table. Our menu features local sausages, bacon, ham and eggs, Chef's own toasted muesli, thick yoghurt with home-made fruit compote, and artisan bread from a Norwich baker. Our Dining Room is open Tuesday to Saturday evenings (closed Sunday / Monday), with a daily changing 2 AA Rosette menu featuring freshly prepared, locally sourced, seasonal produce. The elegant intimate, Georgian panelled room has just six tables so be sure to book dinner in advance as we regret we cannot guarantee availability of a table, nor a particular time, where dinner reservations have not been made prior to arrival. The Old Rectory is 2 miles from Norwich railway station (services to London, Cambridge, the Norfolk Coast and intermediate stations) and the city centre with its Norman Castle and Cathedral, medieval churches, excellent shopping facilities and open air market. Norwich International Airport (flights to Manchester, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and international flights via the KLM hub at Amsterdam Schipol) is 5 miles. The Norfolk Broads National Park and the sandy beaches of the east coast are a short drive, and many historic houses, nature reserves, gardens etc are within easy reach. ... more   less
