The reviews were fair, but that’s all over with now. It was difficult to run a facility over the years that so few people attended. Lot’s of people had good times over the years but it all came to a crashing halt on New Years 2020 when it burned to the ground.

My first trip to Avalon was a couple of years ago, I camped in a tent in the "Pines." I loved every minute of it. I kept coming back and camping, then this year I bought a camper on a leased lot. Yes, there are room for improvement, but the positive outweighs the negative by far in my opinion. The highly overworked staff and volunteers do an amazing job of making it one of the most friendly places I've ever been.

My wife and I went to Avalon for the first time last weekend for the motorcycle event. All in all, it was a marvelous place. We had great weather and the people around the pool could not have been friendlier. Unfortunately, there was one disturbing aspect that we felt we needed to mention. We were in the outdoor hot tub Friday evening. We were talking to a man who turned out to be the resort's cook. While we were talking to him, a woman came up the driveway and started screaming like a banshee at him. She was loud and abusive and informed him that she had placed an order and that it was taking too long. He rushed into the lodge. Shortly after that, we went to the bar. Much to our surprise, the woman we had seen screaming outside like a maniac was the bartender. We stayed in the bar for a while and were close to her when the cook brought the allegedly too slow order in. The guest did not seem particularly rattled by the delay, but the bartender seemed to feel the need to verbally trash the cook to the customer to explain the slow service. She was both foul-mouthed and crude in her dealings with customers. We stayed in the bar for a while, long enough for the bartender to just sort of bark "Do you want a drink?" at us. After a while, we felt less and less comfortable around her, so we left the bar. We found her crude, abusive language unpleasant to be around, and wondered why anyone would assign her to be around customers. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. Unfortunately, we thought the bartender gave an otherwise lovely place a serious black eye. Without her there, we wouldn't hesitate to go back. With her there, the jury's still out.

We try to write honest reviews because we hate reading 40 reviews and 20 are place was awesome 20 are place is horrible. So here is our review from a upper 30's couple perspective. Location was OK and allowed an escape from the everyday fast paced life. Amenities are as follows. Small pool with shallow end and swimming lap deep end. 2 residential hot tubs on an elevated deck out side. There is a indoor pool and hot tub but it was under construction during our stay. The web site says they have a fishing pond however it was drained during our stay. The bath houses are clean and gross at the time. We did not use them but I went in to check them out. They were clean no trash anywhere but smelled like you were in a vault toilet at a state park. They have not been up dated in at least 20yrs. On site trails - We did walk each morning. There is a neighborhood that you can walk through with some pretty big houses. There are 2 or 3 trail loops. They do have some elevation changes but are only 2 miles long or so. It was a nice walk. Campground and sites - I am unsure how many sites have full hook ups but ours did. It would have been an ok site if it was somewhat level. We ran out of leveling blocks so we found some 2x10 boards laying around. It took 3 2x10 boards and 10 leveling blocks to get the trailer close to level. There is no cable hook up but the web site lists this so it was not a surprise. You do get 2 TV stations on the digital antenna. I am not sure if there was a big storm and the camp ground was never cleaned up but there is brush down everywhere and it appeared to be lots of down trees from something. Bring your chain saw there is plenty of fire wood on site. Check in - we checked in early in the morning and the lady was nice. We were given wrists bands that you are supposed to wear during your stay. We had never had to do this at any other resort. The lady explained people park at the bottom of the road and walk up into the resort. This was concerning that there is no security except an electric gate like the ones in a parking garage at the entrance. During our stay we did not see or experience any need for security we just expected it from other places we have visited. Activities and events - There was supposed to be an event going on however it was not much of an event. We did not go to the Saturday night dance so we cant comment on that. Structured activities would definitely make the weekend more fun and pass the time a little better. The pool area is open 24hrs a day but you feel like you need to leave at 430 when they close everything up which includes the snack bar and drink service. Opinion of the resort - Has great potential but is over priced for the current experience. As we indicated we are a uppers 30's couple and were the youngest visitors on this particular weekend. The crowd is 50 plus for the most part. My wife was uncomfortable with the amount of single men, there were a lot of them. There were more single men then couples. Some of them were overly friendly and did not get the hint if you know what we mean. This caused us to have to leave the public area and spend more time then we would have liked in our trailer. Based on our experience we will most likely not return.
