My husband and I booked a quick weekend getaway to celebrate by birthday. We stayed in a Cozy Cabin which was conveniently located within walking distance to the restaurant. The cabin did the trick, but next time I will pack a wine glass and a corkscrew. The restaurant and staff were amazing. The pizza is delicious and we got the buffet the second night. I went in with expectations of the food being mediocre because it is a resort, but it was fantastic. We had Steve R. as our guide for the Upper Gauley. He gave us a fun ride with lots of surfing. Steve is very good with getting through the rapids and I did not paddle nearly as much as I did when we did the Lower Gauley previously. This meant that I was able to hold on and not fall out, while others in the raft were free to experience all of the bumps and waves that they liked. My husband fell in while we were surfing Hungry Mother and they caught it on video, so of course we had to purchase it. Soaking in the hot tub back at our cabin after the trip was pure heaven. Thanks Ace for making this a great weekend!!

This was a blast! We had so much fun. You could tell they put a lot into the production. It is a beautiful place in and of itself, but the setup was perfect for scares. I will warn you, there are some stairs and uphill areas with gravel. It was still pretty easily maneuverable. Highly recommend this attraction for Halloween season.

Came for a night. Rafted the upper gauley with Doug. Awesome guide. Hit every wave and rapid hard. Got my battle scars. The cabin we were in was a cozy cabin with tv and hotub. Clean, roomy, and the deck and hotub are awesome. Then there was the lost paddle bar and grill, and woodys grill. The best ribs, brisket and whole pig buffet I've ever had. Love the bark. Bartenders very nice, especially lovely. Took time to talk and tell us a lot of things about the resort. She had a great time working. And we had a blast talking to her. The other servers and bartenders were just as nice also, just can't remember all the names.😆. The activities are awesome and so many. The best part about this place is the staff. Awesome and friendly at every turn. Thanks gang. Will be back.

We just spent 3 days at the Ace Resort and 2 days on the Gauley River. This report will be long, but things need to be said. The Gauley river in the fall is one of THE BEST whitewater rivers ANYWHERE; 100 sets of rapids and 9 class Vs, with a number of IIIs and IVs that have class V danger. Day 1, Lower Gauley, three class V rapids, our guide was Craig W. He was also the trip director that day for 4 other rafts. The 6 folks in our raft explained to Craig that we wanted a fun ride but preferred to stay in the raft. An EXCELLENT guide, Craig clearly explained what was going to happen before every set of significant rapid activity. His voice commands as we navigated the rapids kept us on-line and out of trouble. As group leader he also remained focused on the other rafts, in case any rafters ended up in the water and needed assistance. It was an absolutely fun day, and we all stayed in the raft!!! We told Craig we were doing the Upper Gauley the next day. He provided some advice that proved VERY helpful. Thanks Craig. Day 2, Upper Gauley, six class V rapids and a slew of tough IIIs and IVs. I have to say up front that this section of the river worried me. While we had done white water rafting before, nothing compared to the intensity we were about to experience. The trip leader was Zak. On Craig’s advice we talked to him about our Upper Gauley day and what we were hoping for today. Zak teamed us with Tommy C. (AKA Chicken Head). The six rafters in our boat were all over 60. My wife and I had whitewater rafted seven times prior, the other four had much more significant experience, but we all wanted a SAFE and STAY IN THE RAFT experience. Tommy listened to us. He VERY clearly explained what was going to happen before every set of significant rapid activity. His sharp and concise voice commands as we navigated the rapids moved us EXACTLY where we needed to be to stay on-line and out of trouble. When running the second, class V, the Pillow, I did end up in the water after Volkswagen rock got the best of us. My raft mates got me quickly back in the boat, Tommy kept control and directed our team through a very tricky stretch of rapids, and all was GOOD! The rest of the day while exhilarating and intense remained incident free. I cannot say enough about the OUTSTANDING skill and guidance of Tommy, getting us through the toughest river I have ever rafted!! Both days we ate dinner at the resort’s Lost Paddle Eatery. Both nights it was only my wife, I and two raftmates. The food was EXCELLENT!! Jim and I enjoyed the sirloin steak so much we had it both nights. My wife had trout one night and salmon the next, both excellent. Jim’s wife had the trout night one and the entre’ chef salad day the second day. Her salad was the biggest entre’ salad I have ever seen, chocked full of good stuff. Needless to say, she could not finish it. I do not understand why people chose to eat elsewhere. The food and service (Priscila and Sarah) were excellent, and at a VERY reasonable price!!!! We stayed on the property in cabin #6. The cabin was cozy, and the AC units did a good job of keeping us cool on three HOT autumn days. The whirlpool hot-tub on the deck was particularly nice after day two on the river. All in all, this was an amazing experience.

Pros: clean cabins, super friendly and helpful staff in Welcome Center, easy layout of property, rafting is done in a safe and organized manner. Breakfast buffet is good option for before rafting. Cons: the raft guide assigned to our group of 2 adults/4 12-13 year olds on the lower New River was obviously not a fan of children. Would be better to match guides who are nice to kids to family groups! Non-smoking policy is posted but not enforced at restaurant patio so people are vaping and blowing smoke while you eat (this was at 6pm, not late). Also, rafters are expected to carry the 300lb rafts down to and up from the water. Not a big deal if you have 6 adult rafters. But difficult if you only have 2 adults plus guide in your group. Would have been nice if an extra guide had been asked to help our group out given adult to kid ratio. All in all, a fun trip! The guide’s personality makes a difference in your rafting trip so hope for a good match!
