We spent our anniversary weekend at Ace, and couldn’t be happier. It was a last minute booking, and we got a charming, simple Cedar Cabin which was all we needed for the amount of time we spent there. We spent dinners at the Lost Paddle, which wasn’t super gourmet food but hit the spot, and we didn’t meet a mean staff member there! Sarah at the front desk was a gem, we rafted the Lower Gauley all day with Matt T. and had the best rafting trip yet, and Claire took us mountain biking on the on-site trails and it was a great way to spend a morning! She even took us on more technical trails because we are experienced mountain bikers. The resort is a bit gritty, but we went for the experiences and boy we weren’t disappointed. We’re already planning a return trip next year to do both the Upper and Lower Gauley. Loved every second. …
I went whitewater rafting with my boyfriend for the first time. Our guide was Jimbo and he was awesome! He made my experience wonderful with all the knowledge about rafting , the river, history, and safety tips. I can wait to go back next fall for the upper part of the river! Somehow I’m gonna request Jimbo again!
We rafted the Upper Gauley in September and had a blast. Our guide Annie was experienced and the river ride exciting. Following the trip while standing by the bus, one of the guides told our guide that he felt bad for her because she had the oldest and youngest people in her raft, essentially slamming our family. This was in front of our teenage son. If you are under 20, over 40, or simply value kindness, pick a different company.
I grew up fishing on a small boat during the summer but never used any kind of boating for pure recreational fun. Had never been whitewater rafting. My mindset was always safety first, not getting a thrill out of the ride. We rafted with guide Zach (from RI). When we hit the first rapid, I got slapped hard by the water and thrown a bit. It made me really anxious and feel like this was not for me. I am thankful he had such confidence in what he was doing and as we progressed down the river, I felt more comfortable. He was good with educating us from the start and was conversational with all of us as we went down the river. I am sure all of your guides are good, but wanted to give a special thumbs up for Zach.
I was very disappointed with my visit to the waterpark. My son wanted to get on the slide but it looked gross! Looked like mold or algae was built up on them. There was a child that threw up on the ground by the picnic table. The staff was informed several times and it took someone almost an hour and a half to come and clean it up. I was completely disgusted especially seeing how we are in this pandemic. Makes me question highly question the cleanliness of this place.
