Summersville Lake Retreat offers deluxe vacation cabins and Deluxe Pull Thru RV sites overlooking Summersville lake. We are a full service campground with clean modern facilities, boat and watercraft rentals, and we are home to WV's only working lighthouse. From secluded tent sites to pull thru sites with all of the amenities long enough to accommodate the largest of coaches, our 57 acre Retreat has the campsite that you are looking for. Everything is dog friendly, we love dogs! For those who truly love "camping in style", relax in a hot tub in one of our cabins out on the West Ridge where the only traffic that you're likely to hear, may be a boat making it's way through the lake out in the distance. Want to try "glamping"? We have smaller themed cabins hidden in our north forest. We have several unique amenities including a hammock hangout, huge dog park, pirate ship playground, and of course our lighthouse that you can tour. We also offer a variety of clean well equipped watercraft, from solo and tandem kayaks and canoes to our new fleet of pontoon boats! Summersville Lake Retreat & Lighthouse ~ Where Incredible Scenery and Warm Hospitality Meet! Voted Best Campgrounds and Cabins in West Virginia 2021/2022.

1st, could hardly believe how beautiful this area is! 2nd, Summersville Lake RV Retreat is serene, beautiful with views to last a lifetime. Everything is meticulously clean, sites are spaced far enough apart to give you your privacy. Sites are gravel, and we did need more wood/leveling devices for one side, but all do-able. As a well prepared camper, just bring adequate chocking/leveling material. Water pressure fantastic, wifi strong, grounds are beautifully manicured, adequate electric to run everything. Bought wood from the well stocked store onsite & it burned with no problem (at some resorts, the wood wasn't dry & near impossible to burn). Here, they deliver it to your site, great price & burns great! This resort is fantastic in every way! Prices are very reasonable, staff very friendly & helpful. Check-in is well organized (pull up to the gate house & in a clear holder is your packet with all information needed). I would give Summersville RV Retreat 6 stars if I could!

We went here so we could visit the New River Gorge National Park. I picked this campground because I had read the fascinating story about the lighthouse. I figured while I was in the area I could do 2 things at once. We reserved a Deluxe campsite which sits next to the lighthouse It turned out to be a perfect choice. Not only was the campground very convenient to the National Park but the campground itself was very nice. The few dollars to climb the 122 steps to enjoy the view was worth it. The campsite was level and all of the hookups were very nice. The campground is only about 10 minutes away from the National Park headquarters at the bridge so it was perfect for a day's outing to see the bridge and drive the road that goes under the bridge.

Best place to camp in WV!! Camp sites are always clean and well manicured. Camp host was very helpful all hours of the day and night. Owners are very accommodating with any problem that could be encountered. We have have been camping here for 15 years and never had any problems in the campground and met the nicest people. Beautiful view of Summersville Lake, has the only lighthouse in WV. Wonderful place to stay and just relax!!
Excellent place to make memories.

The website might say it's open year-round, but don't believe it! We booked an RV campsite for a night in March, paid full price in advance, arrived and set up in the rain, only to learn the washrooms are closed! We were told we should have read the fine print under tent sites, and then we were told to DRIVE to another location (with our rig attached?!?!?) to use another property's washrooms. Ridiculous! To charge full price for off-season services with NO offer to refund, reduce or discount is unconscionable. The management had an opportunity to make it right, but they happily charged us full price for half the service. Don't stay here. There are many lovely options in the area, but this property's attitude to customer service is a red flag for me. They didn't even have the courtesy to reply to our request for an adjustment in the rate. (It looks like they have adjusted their website, but to me, it's more about the way they treat their customers when they fail to live up to their promises.) Consider yourself warned. They will charge you full price for half the value.

Response from slr278, Owner at Summersville Lake Retreat & Lighthouse
Responded Mar 22, 2020
While its not normal practice for me to swing pitches in the dirt, I'm calling this one. For twenty years, we have always winterized our showerhouse from November 1st thru March 31st. It has been posted on our website's main page in bold face print for years. We do keep our full hookup RV sites open throughout the year to accommodate off season travelers. All off season campsite reservation are directed towards these sites, however, when customers are adament about not paying for a premium full hookup site when they insist that "All they need is an electric hookup", and then complain about the lack of amenities is a classic case of, "while you can lead a horse to water...you can't make him drink". We are very explicit in the information that we convey in our reservation confirmation email, but we cannot ensure that they are opened and read. We are very proud of our amenities that we provide and the level of service that we offer.

We rented kayaks through Summersville Lake Retreat. The time on the water was a lot of fun, but the process of renting the kayaks was much more complicated than it needed to be. I have rented kayaks in many other places in this country, and it has never taken so long or been such a grueling process. I called the day before and was told to arrive at 9 AM. We showed up at 8:45, and the manager seemed very annoyed that we were there so early and that we hadn't filled out any forms ahead of time online (even though this had not been mentioned the day before when I called). It took two solid hours to fill out forms, get the kayaks loaded onto the vehicle, and get onto the water. When we returned, we were missing a piece of foam, which was probably worth about 25 cents. I was charged 12.71 to replace this precious foam. The teenage workers, one of whom helped to load the kayaks onto the vehicle, were very friendly and helpful, but the main office worker was not at all friendly or welcoming. The time on the water was enjoyable, but I would recommend renting kayaks from another location if possible.

I booked a reservation with this place in December 2019 for a stay in July 2020. Of course, they immediately charged me for half my stay. Our plans changed and I called to cancel the reservation on January 13th, at which time they informed me they would be charging me a fee of 10% of my total stay as a cancellation fee. When I reserved over the phone, this was never disclosed to me. Given that they have seven full months to re-book this I feel it's outrageous to charge this fee.

To be fair I'm just basing this review on their RV reservation process and policy. I called to make a reservation on 4/23/2021 for Bridge Day 10/15/2021. Their reservation policy does require a minimum 2 day stay as Bridge Day is considered a holiday, but their web site DOES NOT indicate that if you have to cancel the entire reservation is non-refundable. Even though I was canceling 5+ months in advance. Also at the time I made the reservation over the phone Diane the person taking my reservation did not mention this non-refund policy. So when I did call and canceled the reservation (today 4/26/2021) Diane informed me there would be a $25 cancelation fee, which is steep but not completely unexpected. She then called me back approximately 10 minutes later, after I received my emailed cancellation notice, that they would be keeping the entire fee due to this being a holiday. Needless to say I'll be disputing this with Navy Federal.

I pray for anyone who books a trip with these people and then has to cancel for any reason because they will NOT refund your money. Your entire family could suffer the worst tragedy or even death and they still don't give a damn and will not refund your money. I will never give this place my money and I will never recommend anyone else giving them any business.

We only rented a 10-person pontoon boat and it was a great experience from beginning to end. The staff was very helpful when I called and when we arrived. They also shared where to go on the lake. We ended up asking to use the restrooms and needed to get the code to use the campground facilities - I was impressed with how clean they were. We had a great time!

We stayed in Three Bears Den cabin #5 at the Summersville Lake Retreat and let me tell you it was totally amazing. It was a staycation for us since we are from the area but wanted to just relax and unwind alone for New Years Eve weekend. The area was very quiet (again it was off season but still) The cabin was above expectations. They had the fireplace going for us, New Years hats and bottle of sparkling cider on the counter with a welcome sign when we arrived. The hot tub was probably the best part of our stay it was so relaxing. My husband was very impressed with how clean the cabin was, he couldn't find any cobwebs (and thats a plus because when we go to TN and stay there are always cobwebs in the rafters or such) . We will definitely stay here again and would recommend to everyone. Oh and let me say the cabin was also Pet Friendly which was a bonus for us to be able to take our blind dog along. Thank you Summersville Lake Retreat for a memorable stay. We look forward to coming baack!!!!

Yes, cabins are pet friendly. We brought our Weimaraner down with us when we stayed at Cabin 5. However, they are not directly on the lake so you have to dock you boat at the marina not far from there. Still it’s a great place. Have a great trip!
Playground is centrally located in the middle of the campground near the showerhouse. If you go on the website and scroll to the bottom of the page there is a map of the campground that you can even print out. We also have a weathercam on top of the Summersville Lake Lighthouse and you can see us LIVE by the website for WSAZ TV3 Lottery Camera. Check it out!
