While we usually stay in the rustic cabins, we invited a few friends to join for the weekend who enjoy the amenities of modern life.
This cottage has 4 bedrooms (2 queen size, 2 with 2 twins), a sizable bathroom with towels, and a furnished kitchen complete with wine glasses (thankfully).

The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped for making family sized meals and the common room was perfect for gathering.
The outdoor space was equally appealing with two picnic tables, a fire pit and the hot tub was perfect for our our adventure recovery.

It is in a campground so there were other campers nearby but there is a privacy hedge and fence. Noise was never an issue.

Will definitely stay in this house again!

We stayed in one of the 1 BR Outback hot tub cabins and found them to be high quality, clean and comfortable. The prices are a little high in the summer for us but the off season rates fit our budget. The resort has a LOT of cabins and they aren’t particularly private, it’s more like being in a neighborhood. I probably wouldn’t go during their busy season because as a couple without children who are getting older we prefer somewhere quiet and private, but if I were younger with a family it would be a great place for a vacation as they offer lots of outdoor activities. During the off season their restaurants are closed but we found great places to eat in Fayetteville which is super close. This may become a regular getaway spot for us in late fall and winter.

My husband and I stayed at Adventures on the Gorge July 3-5, 2023 to go whitewater rafting. We stayed in the Sunnyside Cabins. Our cabin was clean, roomy with two Queen beds, large bathroom with toiletries and blow dryer, extra towels under the bathroom sink, kitchenette area with microwave, small refrigerator, coffee maker with coffee, cream and sugar packets and counter top with sink. Also the a/c worked well. House keeping currently wasn't being used but because they give you extra towels and coffee it wasn't needed. They leave a broom outside on the patio if you get mud in your room and want to sweep it out. There is a wrap around balcony and two chairs on patio and next to the cabin is a real fire pit if you get your own wood, you can make s'mores if you wanted. The restaurants and main area where you meet for activities is within walking distance but because we were on time constraints in the morning, we drove. Breakfast can be purchased on line for $30 per person for the buffet which we felt was convenient. Breakfast opens at 7:00am. We did the 9:00 am Lower New River full day rafting trip which we had plenty of time to have breakfast, drive back to our cabin to brush teeth, etc and then walk back to the main area for our trip. Everything was really easy and organized. I recommend the full day. It goes by fast, they provide a simple lunch which they lay everything out along the bank and you make your own turkey/ham sandwich with lettuce, tomato, etc. they also had a couple salad items and cookies and banana pudding. This may change but that is what we had. Our raft guide was Fidge, and he was awesome! He made the whole trip fun and we felt safe with him as our guide. We got back around 3 or 4pm. They also have a photographer that follows the rafts and takes pictures which was really nice because we wouldn't be able to take pictures while rafting. It was a little expensive for only one picture-$30 which they put on a thumb drive but it's better to buy all the pictures, about 30 pictures for $65. It's worth it. There was also a videographer that you can watch the video in the pub about an hour after you get back to Adventures on the Gorge. While we were there, we also did a Bridge Walk which was separate from Adventures on the Gorge but only a 5 minute drive away. There are several hikes close by as well. Three nights was perfect for us. We did everything we wanted to do. We would definitely stay here again the next time we want to go rafting

Thank you, mpeters512! To clarify, our kayak videographer follows you all day. The photographers are actually from a third party we work with. They post up next to a couple of the bigger rapids.

Way overpriced for services (none) offered. Fireplace didn’t work so we called. Maintenance person still did not come 3 days later until we called again. Hot tub became no functioning because it did not get serviced the entire week. We called about it and were refused service. We got no housekeeping service the entire week and actually had to call for towles which they dropped off with our kids who were playing outside and did not pick up the old ones. The front desk actually had the nerve to tell me that we were lucky that we had electrical power during this overpriced stay.

There were several issues with our cabin that should have been taken care of before anyone stays in it and would like to give feedback. The hot tub does not get hot and there is no lock on the cover (handle is also broken) for safety. The "hot" water hose to use is not hot. Lukewarm at best. The cover also has mold on it and needs replaced. This is a huge safety hazard with the cover not having a lock. The freezer is leaking into the refrigerator, there was water all over the top shelf of the fridge and dripping down. The master bathroom shower has black mold all over it and needs completely scrubbed and sanitized. The shower also does not drain properly and water pools around your feet. The grill outside has 2 huge holes in it and could not be used. The picnic table was covered in green moss. Both the table and the steps need pressure washed. This is a beautiful place but the maintenance and cleaning is very poor. Assuming it's the cleaning crew they use is not doing a job, but as a corporation, they should be overseeing the work being done. I have traveled around the country/world and know what to expect. I understand this is post-covid and things are getting back to normal, but there is no excuse for these simple things to be taken care of before a guest stays. We shared this feedback directly with AOTG, so hopefully they will clean it up for the next guest.

Though a nervous first-time rafter, I wanted to do this trip for my husband for Father's Day. It turned out to be one of our favorite recent trips, and a great kick-off to the summer. A lot of things were closed or limited due to Covid, but the resort was amazingly clean, and all the staff were wonderful with making you feel safe by maintaining capacity limits, enforcing mask-wearing, etc. We felt very comfortable the whole time. The cabin we stayed in was amazing... clean and comfortable, with everything we could possibly need. The resort, including the restaurants and the pool was wonderful. The rafting experience was memorable and safe. We now hope to make this a yearly trip!

During the Pandemic this resort added 10 RV sites to their cabins and houses and tent sites - and we are grateful. If you like rafting and are willing to pay for a great resort, this is the place: guided tours of the New River (bus transport back and forth to launch and take out), 4 restaurants/bars, videographers, and professional photographers of your rafting adventure, ziplines and aerial lines for the tree climbers and much more. Good electrical supply. No sewer or water at your site but clean bathhouses and full shade and good people everywhere. We will do it again. GREAT place for rafters or active families. GREAT for family reunions. Golly! This is a find for some RVers.

Overall nice resort but don’t believe the COVID policy. Night I arrived my room had not even been cleaned, came quickly to clean but requested disinfectant wipes and never received. Front desk staff didn’t wear masks and masks were not really enforced in crowded areas. There are signs etc but no one seems to really care. The rafting is great and campus is pretty, great views. Would go again but not during COVID. Almost left but tried my best to disinfect and mask/social distance.

AOTG continues to deliver the best in the whitewater category. No one is close. The river crew is friendly and experienced. AOTG needs to do a better job of maintaining the overall property and hiring enough staff to handle their growing business. The lack of staff is definitely showing in places.
We also enjoyed a quality zip line tour with great guides.
The adventures are well managed and definitely quality. The overall property management property needs to be improved to make it worth the $$ to stay on and enjoy the property.

We stayed in a 2 br Outback Cabin for our party of 6 and was perfect. The hot tub was a nice addition for the teens to hang out after a day of activities. We stayed EnderWaves and I found the mattress in the master to be pretty comfy but my husband felt there was a dip in the middle and needed to be flipped or get a new one. The 2nd bedroom had 2 twin beds plus a queen bed and we had 2 boys and 2 girl teens so we took the queen mattress off the bed and put it on top of the pull out sofa in the loft room outside the bedroom - this worked out great!! Air conditioning worked amazing and everything was pretty clean. We loved the rafting experience and the kids loved the gravity zipping tour that we booked through Adventures on the Gorge. The heated pool was awesome and the perfect temperature! Loved how the pool was separated into 2 pools for kids and adults. Lots of seating around the pool and area overlooking the New River Gorge Bridge. There was a restaurant onsite by the pool where we had dinner one night which was decent. The burgers my kids got looked amazing and we had salads that were pretty good.

How far to walk from hemlock bunkhouses to Smokeys?
Answer from Tetonted1995
Harwich, Massachusetts113 contributions42 helpful votes
I am not quite sure where the bunkhouses are. I did, however, walk to every activity I engaged in. I was in the campgrounds. From the map, everything is a convenient distance. If you are planning on a trip. I suggest one of the four weekends when they open the dams if you are rafting. It is just awesome. You can get to every activity and early in under ten minutes. Plus the scenery is to die for.
