Detailed Reviews
We spent four nights here for a family vacation and it was everything we hoped it would be. El Gordo was a great home away from home--room for our six adults and one toddler, a great location away from the other cabins (which all looked nice), hot tub, fire pit and gas grill. It was close to all of the Fayetteville activities but remote enough for quiet nights and mornings. The owner was super helpful, and the fresh cookies waiting for us when we arrived were a nice surprise. We will definitely be back.

This was a perfect cabin in the woods. They designed the property so the cabins felt secluded. The cabind had a perfect homey touch, the owners even baked cookies to welcome you into the cabin. Our trip was for an anniversary get away, but we plan to go back to bring the kids. You could easily fit a family of 4 in the cabin. All the ammenktkes were great, a hot tub, kitchen, grill and firepit were perfect.

We were a party of 12 people in town to raft the Gauley. We stayed in The Meadows large group cabin. We had 3 adult couples, who all stayed in the upstairs bedrooms, and 6 21-22 year olds who all stayed in the downstairs rooms. The bunk room was perfect for our group! Anna left cookies and souvenir glasses to take home. The cabin is just as pictured. Clean (except for a few tiny ants in the kitchen), lots of room, lots of towels, shampoo/conditioner in the bathrooms, plenty of dishes and glasses, etc. The young ones used the hot tub a couple of times and reported the water is hot but the jets barely move the water. Great place to stay!

My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary here. Cabin was very charming and cozy, clean, and in a superb location to all activities. The little kitchen has everything you could want while on vacation. The hosts were extremely responsive, friendly, and thoughtful. Our pup had a great time too. Would definitely recommend Opossum Creek Retreat to anyone looking to visit the area!

We greatly enjoyed our 3 night stay in Cabin 3. Great location for visiting New River Gorge National Park- only a 10 minute drive. Town of Fayetteville was less than a 15 minute drive. Even though civilization was nearby, the cabin felt quite secluded in the woods. The cabin was well stocked with everything you can think of kitchen wise. The paper products were name brand! The hot tub was fantastic and very clean. Loved the enclosed porch. The entire cabin was very clean. Internet was fast. AC worked well. Loved having a gas grill instead of dealing with charcoal. Anna was a lovely host, she had thought of everything to have in the cabin to make a comfortable stay. She even left delicious fresh baked cookies for us on our arrival. My only regret was that we didn’t stay longer.

Excellently appointed cabin just the right amount of space, clean and comfortable. Hot tub was great and private. Perfect location- in the woods but not too far from anything- would definitely stay here again. Excellent experience booking and follow up
after check in- even had cookies waiting.

Facilities were as advertised, well outfitted and clean. Location is isolated in the woods but that was as expected. Close to New River Bridge, Hawks Nest State Park and Fayatteville. The only problem we had was that we filed written reservation form requesting Cabin 3 and, in return , we received a confirmed written reservation for Cabin 4 along with code to enter Cabin4. Since Cabins 3 & 4 are identical and in the same area, we did not object to the switch. However, after about 90 minutes in the cabin we were informed that a mistake had been made and that we would have to pack up and move to Cabin 3. This was a little unsettling and inconvenient to say the least!

We stayed in fantastic cabin 1 and we had the time of our lives. We were minutes away from New River Gorge, Adventures on the Gorge and Fayetteville. A quaint, well stocked General store is only 5 minutes away. The cabin is so comfy and clean. We lived in the hot tub most of the time. Anna baked us cookies and made us feel so welcome. My boyfriend who is a carpenter tells me that the mortise and tenon joints are of the highest craftsman quality. Lol. If anyone else cares about such things. We love the fireplace heater!!! We can’t wait to return in the spring.

We would definitely stay here again if we visit the area again.

The company rented this spot out for our annual retreat. It was gorgeous, clean, and comfortable. The indoor spiral staircase to the basement was a cool touch. I honestly did not believe we would all fit in the hot tub as comfortably as we did.
