Our trip to Thatch Caye was by far our favorite trip in the books. It was a mix of the employees, the other guests we became very good friends with, the island, the over the water bungalow, the digital detox, and the food! The staff was very accommodating. Our hot water wasn’t working our first day but they were prompt to correct it and it worked seamlessly throughout the trip. ALL of the employees you meet at Thatch Caye are hard working! You constantly see staff cleaning the beaches and ensuring the island stays pristine. Shoutout to Miguel, Evilio, Sharon, Nelson, Mr. & Mrs. Leslie, and Paris for outstanding customer service. I have never taken a vacation and come back with such good friends! We had an amazing time with every couple/family we met and look forward to seeing them all again! I wasn’t sure what to think when I read family style dining but I loved this. It was great to get to know the other guests and share fun stories about your day. A few tips for future travelers to Thatch Caye - Bring bug spray, another guest said they do spray to keep bugs at bay but it’s nature, better to be prepared. You can donate to a local charity in Belize. Check out Thatch Caye’s website for more information. A simple act that can reach so far! A mini flashlight could help (but not necessary - just preference). The stairway to our bungalow was pitch black one night since it was cloudy and raining. For the ladies, keep expensive jewelry and wedding rings at home. Crime is high in Belize City where you will most likely fly into, you also don’t want to risk loosing it at sea or on an excursion.

Hotel's Favorite
I have been home from Thatch Caye for about three weeks and am still daydreaming about it every day. It's hard to know what to rave about first, but I will have to start with the people. Every member of the Thatch Caye staff was wonderful, and I felt so at home from the moment I arrived. The island is beautiful with charming, comfortable accommodations and little touches all around the property that make it so special. It's like something out of a travel magazine photo shoot, but it is REAL! We practiced yoga at Serenity Point which was magical. The food was delicious; I was especially impressed with all the varieties of homemade breads the chefs whipped up! Culture Night was also a great highlight. I definitely left a piece of my heart at Thatch Caye and will be back as soon as I can. In the meantime, please pet sweet Dewey the island dog for me!

Where do I begin!? My husband and I needed to escape from a pandemic that has consumed much of our lives and Belize did not disappoint. From the moment we got off the plane to the minute we left, Thatch Caye (pronounce key for us English speakers as an fyi) had the logistics down pat. The journey to Thatch Caye is just ad exciting as once you are there. The rooms were beautiful with amazing views (we stayed in 2 different types and both were just equally as clean and amazing). You will not be bored with the bartenders that keep the energy alive with their stories and their endless amounts of drinks. Sherin and Miguel were two of our favorites just for being fun to laugh with and equally having passion for their trade. In case anyone was wondering, Miguel is Belize's national champion mixologist and IT SHOWS! Thatch Caye is very lucky to have him. We also have to shout out Nelson for being a kind hearted human being. We truly befriended these people in our short 6 day stay, and for Nelson being the one who served us our meals was always full of laughs and pleasant conversation. We of course have to speak about the food because most places talk about how all inclusive hotels just has subpar food....BUT NOT AT THATCH CAYE! Here at this resort, they have another Belizean chef champion, Eliza. Eliza never disappointed with breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The moment we arrived my husband and I raved about the Belizean twist they gave to each dish and very hearty dishes they were. Eliza loves to cook, but she also loves to learn and welcomes you into her kitchen to teach you a little of what she knows too. Thatch Caye is so lucky to have her too. Ms Lesley, Darian, and their 4 pups give the island its final touch by welcoming you in as family and always being approachable and available to go above and beyond for you. If you are wondering where to stay in Belize whether it is for adventure or relaxation, give Thatch Caye a big chance. The mainland tours were excellent, the diving was superb, and there is an endless amount of things to do. Never a dull moment. Thank you Thatch Caye. The goodbyes were left with hugs today from all those we love there, and we will see you again.

Planned trip to Thatch Caye after having wonderful experiences at four other resorts in Belize. We had planned to scuba dive as well as reef fish. Upon arrival they informed us that we could only dive if we had a group of6 or more. In addition the majority of their excursions were cancelled or unavailable for one reason or another. The food at the resort was OK but not anywhere near the quality we experienced at other resorts and restaurants. Conch and rice were a staple at all meals. Fish or chicken as main dish. We left the restaurant still hungry after most meals. Bar staff was nice and did a good job. Remaining staff all got their jobs done but seemed dry and not happy. We pre-paid for a 7 night visit we had really been looking forward to. We left the island after third night. As we were packing they offered to take us out scuba diving the next day. They had no idea where we would be going. No idea if it was half day or full day as they were using a dive boat from another island. We declined. They refused any type of refund for unused days.

We are very saddened to hear your stay wasn’t what you had planned for. We would hope that you could have stayed to give us a chance to really get the full experience of the resort and what we have to offer. We pride ourselves on creating a vacation experience custom to every guest’s needs, before arrival often scheduling tours such as diving before arrival. With such low numbers in occupancy in Belize, resorts across the country are trying to feasibly schedule as many dives as they can, and it helps to know ahead of time your adventure requests. We hope that the rest of your stay in Belize was what you hoped for and you created some great memories

First, the island is beautiful and full of activities and plenty of amenities to keep each day unique. Kayaks, SUPs, Hobie Cat sail boat, fishing excursions, world class Permit fly fishing, snorkling, scuba and more will keep you busy...or just have a relaxing beach day that will likely turn into an impromptu dance party if you are with our group. Open bar and amazing meals were also key to a perfect vacation. Most importantly though is the STAFF! On the very first day everyone on staff knew the names of everyone our party of 10. Sharon and Nelson were AWESOME and took great care of us - glasses always full and always a smile and a good story. The staff really made the trip perfect. The meals were delicious thanks to the amazing chefs Eliza and Alberto - they did a GREAT job cooking the fish we caught and each meal was unique and delicious. The other staff we met on the 1st day were also great. We will be back and can't wait to see all the friendly faces again soon!
