Thank you for a wonderful stay! We will be back!
In the Summer the outdoor patio would be even nicer I’m sure. We got a great deal since it was off season so it made this a good option for us!
Shortly after unpacking I got my laptop out and tried to get some work done. They said they had free high speed internet however I could not get connected. Not my laptop, not any of the 4 phones we had nor our Amazon Firestick. I went to the front desk and the girls basically just said "Well I can get on." I work in IT so I'm not a noob when it comes to these types of problems. I had them reset their router and still no luck. A couple other employees and guessed also had issues. I told them they probably had a restriction on the amount of connections and had reached it. With this information, their response was just a blank stare. While I was in the lobby I overheard several calls to the front desk and the night girl desk attendant's answer to about any question under the sun was "I don't know." She didn't know when the ski resort next door opened, she didn't know the password to the other internet network, she didn't know [fill in the blank].
The rooms itself were livable. There was a decent flat screen, coffeemaker, microwave and fridge. The bathroom tile was the same style as my elementary school floor tiles from the 1970's and the decor of the whole room looked as if it were from that era. The walls were paper thin. That night some goof was out revving the engine of his truck about every 30 mins. The people above us were making all kinds of noise and jumping around. Several calls were made to our "I don't know" girl at the front desk where she'd say she'd call the room and ask them to calm down. To no avail, I took a sleeping pill and dealt with it, my wife was up the whole night.
The next day we went skiing at Winterplace and had a wonderful time. The resort had some danish and coffee in the lobby as well. We got back to resort around 9pm hoping the previous nights other occupants had left but sure enough there was engine revving and jumping and loud noise again. This time I called the lobby and told the same night attendant woman, "I am only calling once, my next call will be to the police. This is BS. We did not sleep last night and we are not going to get any sleep tonight unless you take care of this now. Fix it!" I thought it best to not mince words this time. Mind you this is not a cheap stay. Nearly $200/night so I'd be damned if I spend almost $500 and not sleep for 2 days!!
I will say on a positive note- the internet issue fixed itself as I knew it would when users got off the system, the day time front desk woman was much more with it both attentively and intelligently. There is a bar and restaurant with nightly entertainment from karaoke to live bands. The only real thing this place has going for it is the location to Winterplace but I'd highly consider finding a place to stay in Beckley or Princeton which is 15 min on either side of Winterplace. There is a choice of several hotel chains, restaurants, grocery stores and shopping at those places.
We live close enough that we could have drove up, skied, and drove back home the same day but normally my kids like that little vacation get away, staying at a hotel, etc. That is why we even booked a room. After seeing the room, they both were asking if we could just go home instead of staying, especially the second night. That was the real twisting knife after everything else we endured and paying the bill!
