On our last night of a 10 day vacation we decided to stay at the inn and were happy they had a vacancy. We had previously lived in the local area and had always admired the beautiful home. We are so happy we did! The inn is beautifully decorated for the time era and our room was spacious and spotless. The bed was very comfortable. The owners and hosts Yvonne and Jon are wonderful people and helped make our stay very special. Breakfast was delicious and Yvonne’s homemade apple cake and blueberry muffins were so worth a splurge! Perfect way to end our vacation. We will be back!

Property's Favorite Review
We took a much need two week long trip. Our last stop was to an area we never had visited before. We booked the Mary Rutherford suite at this Gorgeous Historic Inn called “The Carriage Inn Bed and Breakfast” for 3 night. It’s located in Charles Town WV, which isn’t far from Northern Virginia or even the D. C. Areas. Upon arriving we were warmly greeted by the owners/ Inn keepers, Jonathan and Yvonne. Both seem to really enjoy people and they shared with us the vast history of the Inn. We instantly felt welcomed and special! We learned they only just took over the Inn in May, but we found that hard to believe… Perfect Hosts! Our suite was beautiful! So inviting, filled with charm and very clean. Stunning four post bed, sitting area and lovely fireplace ( which if it was Fall ..I could totally see enjoying). The bed was very comfortable, nice crisp sheets. Bathroom had nice thick fluffy towels and provided soaps etc. In the late afternoon we found freshly baked cookies or some kind of baked good Yvonne somehow found time to make and put out for guests! So sweet! Breakfast.. can I say, we were wowed!! It was 5 stars in our book! So delicious! Jonathan asked, what kind of juice he could get for us? Then, remembered and brought it to us each morning. Great fruit cup was what we started off with each morning then a yummy, very filling breakfast dish Yvonne made for us and plenty of coffee or tea. We left the beautiful dining room totally full! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit at your charming B & B! Loved our day trips, Enjoyed the wineries and Harpers Ferry was very educational! Coffee on your grand front porch before breakfast. Thanks Jonathan and Yvonne for giving us a wonderful place to call home for three days! Your hospitality and care to detail was amazing ! We will be back to visit and stay again… hopefully soon! Jacqueline M.

We were in town for an event so weren’t at the Inn much, but it was beautiful, comfortable, the Inn keepers were super nice and helpful and the breakfasts were awesome! Check out the nearby cemetery - plot of unknown soldiers from the civil war. The history of the house is fascinating too!

The Carriage Inn was a great stay for us. Lovely house and our room was beautiful. The breakfasts were delicious. We really enjoyed our hosts who made us feel so relaxed. It's in a very historic area and you really feel like you've been transported back in time. We hope we can visit again.

This place has been one of the most wonderful experiences I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying. The food was beyond fantastic and the company very hospitable. But most of all I loved the rich history this inn had to offer. It really feels like I had a chance to step into the past. The authenticity and charm of this lovely home is sublime! I can’t wait to come back here to prove to my friends that the cool inn I was bragging about was real. Thank you so much Yvonne and John for making my mother and I feel welcome during our short stay :)

History and Hospitality are the twin themes of this long-established, beautifully maintained, and ever-so-comfortable 1836 mansion in the heart of Charles Town, WV.  For History with a capital H: George Washington’s nephews and their families lived here in its earliest days. Union generals met here to strategize during the Civil War. In the early Twentieth Century, storied American tycoons battled financially to win this beautiful home, along with its magnificent trees and lawn and namesake horse-drawn carriage.  There’s even more to learn about The Carriage Inn and its place in the History of Charles Town and the Nation, and new owners, Yvonne and Jonathan Lewis, were anxious to share it all with us on our recent “very special birthday” visit.  The second capital H is, of course, Hospitality. This was our first B&B experience in a long while. From the Lewises’ warm and friendly welcome, to a delightful tour of their respectfully restored and spotlessly clean living, dining, and sleeping rooms and baths, their pride in their home and their desire to share its stories, charms, and secrets with us, put us right at ease.  All the modern creature comforts are here, but all are sensitively chosen, placed and maintained to avoid distracting from historic themes in colors, furnishings, and decorations. Rooms and beds are more than comfortable, nights and evenings quiet. Fireplaces work and so do air conditioners. All of the sleeping quarters here are spacious and impressive, but reserve the Copper Beech Suite, if available (first floor, very quiet, with its own Jacuzzi tub and private screened porch overlooking the lovely rear garden). Very special! Of course, at a B&B, Capital H includes breakfast. For breakfast, Yvonne served delicious homemade blueberry tarts (one gluten free for my wife who had noted the allergy), egg frittata, crispy bacon, great coffee and teas, lovely fresh fruit cup and juices. All were elegantly presented and served on our suite’s private, screened porch at a time that we selected, making for a great start to a day exploring the history of Charles Town and nearby, not-to-be missed, Harper’s Ferry. To conclude: The Lewises bring a special care about cleanliness, guest safety, comfort, and convenience to this magnificent property. And that, for us, is what capital H Hospitality is all about! It will not be long until we return to The Carriage Inn. . Tom and Sandy G

I had the pleasure of staying at this inn about 10 years ago on a business trip, and told my wife that she would love it. So, when we had a wedding to attend in Berryville, VA, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Charles Town was only about 20 minutes away. When making the reservation, I was told by the then owner that they had just sold and the new owners would be there when we arrived, and that we’d love them. How wonderful for anyone staying that the new owners, Yvonne and Jonathan, have stepped in to ensure that this wonderful home will continue to be an inn. Their kindness, warmth and genuine interest in their guests was apparent from the moment we checked in. We stayed in the Copper Beech suite for three nights. It is the only suite with a king size bed, but also has a wonderful, small screened porch where our breakfasts, which were delicious (stuffed French toast with blackberry compote the first morning, for example), were delivered each morning. We would have given a five star review just from our three days at the inn, but we have reason to be even more grateful. We accidentally left behind a backpack with a computer in it when we left the inn. We were a couple hours away when I got a call from Yvonne telling me that they had found it when they went in to clean our room. I asked if the could ship it back to us, at our expense, and they agreed. I was surprised when Jonathan called back less than an hour later from the UPS store, reading me the options and pricing of how to get our bag back home. I know he had lots of other guests there to take care of, but wasn’t really surprised, given all the other efforts they seem to enjoy doing for their guests. It once again reminded us of how much more special a stay at a well-run bed and breakfast can be vs staying in even the nicest hotels. Add to that the caring from owners who want everything to be just right, and we question why we’d ever stay at a traditional hotel again.

My husband and I went to visit Harpers Ferry. I was lucky to find this wonderful B&B to stay at. Everything was so charming. The owners are wonderful host, the rooms were very nice, and the breakfast and snacks were delicious! I would highly recommend this as a go to place to stay. As it is also a great location as we seen much more in the area and only stayed 2 nights. Wish it could have been longer. If we are ever in the area again we will definitely look here for a place to stay.

My wife and I stayed in the Carriage Inn over Memorial Day weekend. The prior owners retired and sold the Inn to Jonathan and Yvonne. Because Jonathan and Yvonne are new owners Trip Advisor deleted all of the reviews when the Inn was owned by the prior owners. This is an absolute shame because people reading Trip Advisor can no longer see years of excellent reviews. Anyone reading this should know this Inn has had years and years of excellent reviews. We stayed during the first or second week the ‘new owners’ took over the Inn. The ‘new’ owners are just terrific people who care about the history of the Inn and are excellent hosts. We are a couple from New York City and have done a fair amount of traveling over the years. From the Inn you can go to places like Harpers Ferry, Shepardstown, Antietam, Leesburg, Winchester and on and on. Not to mention the dozens of vineyards or the casino. Whether you love history, wine, a night at the casino/races or, like us, all of the above, the Carriage Inn is a great place to stay during your vacation. We also very much enjoyed meeting Jonathan and Yvonne. Should we find ourselves in Charles Town we would not hesitate to stay at the Inn again.

My wife and I just stayed this weekend. The Carriage Inn is under new ownership. Rest assured that all the previous great reviews apply to the new owners. Jonathan and Yvonne go out of their way to make you feel at home. The breakfasts were amazing - like you are at a high end restaurant. Afternoon coffee/tea/snacks were delicious. Warm greetings when you walk in the door, comfy accommodations, perfect location, and a very fair price. Book it!
