I would recommend this place as a scenic, historic destination. The amenities are few, but the park and its lodges hearken to when this part of West Virginia was used to fuel the lumber industry. The train ride is enjoyable, and the food at the local cafe was surprisingly good and inexpensive. The state has done a very good job...

We stayed in the park in a house that had been home to mill workers. This is what the houses there all were. It was dingy at best....light in the bathroom was burnt out...making it very hard for the men to shave and the women to apply makeup. All wood in the home really needed to be refinished. It was...

Cass is the best live steam experience that we have ever had. It features six working Heisler and Shay locomotives, one of which has been in service since around 1910. You get to see the engines at work, visit the repair shops, ride the train up the mountain using the switchbacks and experience what logging was like at the early...

Everyone needs to take a ride on an old steam train .. to revisit the past. We had been to Virginia to visit my 95 year old father, and were headed to Cincinnati for a wedding vow renewal when we decided to take this side trip (in the middle of nowhere). We are glad we did, even though the weather...

We booked a 5 bedroom common house for 7 travelers. Houses are very cute though they are in some serious need of a little TLC. The bathroom flooring tiles were broken, busted door, also missing or broken window screens. Plenty of towels, one TV in the living room, beds are a full size (would be nicer if they were a...

We stayed at one of the 6 bedroom houses. It slept 12 very nicely. Thanksfully the weather was good and it cooled off at night. There is NOT any air conditioning so think twice before booking something in mid August. The place was very clean and we loved the 12 chairs for the dining tables. You might want to seriously...

Huge and very peaceful. Very quiet neighborhood and is in walking distance of Cass train depot and restaurants along with visiting center. Very lovely. However the hot water tank is small and two people can't take very long showers. That was a big disappointment for me.

Everyone should experience this once. Take a coal fired authentic 1800,s steam engine up the switch backs climbing over 3000 feet to bald knob. It's really cool to do. Stooping for more water halfway up. Highly recommended

The Cass Scenic Railroad State Park is a Railroad and Company Town surviving from the days when the company that you worked for often housed and fed you and your family. As a piece of American History it is priceless and fascinating. As a vacation destination, it is beautiful, family friendly, and really fun! Just don't plan to stay in...

My dad, brother and I loved this place so much last year that we wanted to come back again this year. The ride up to Bald Knob is always exciting seeing and hearing the shay steam engine push us up the mountain. The only down side to our trip was the shop tour and the lack of information the young...
