Everyone should experience this once. Take a coal fired authentic 1800,s steam engine up the switch backs climbing over 3000 feet to bald knob. It's really cool to do. Stooping for more water halfway up. Highly recommended

The Cass Scenic Railroad State Park is a Railroad and Company Town surviving from the days when the company that you worked for often housed and fed you and your family. As a piece of American History it is priceless and fascinating. As a vacation destination, it is beautiful, family friendly, and really fun! Just don't plan to stay in... More

My dad, brother and I loved this place so much last year that we wanted to come back again this year. The ride up to Bald Knob is always exciting seeing and hearing the shay steam engine push us up the mountain. The only down side to our trip was the shop tour and the lack of information the young... This place was great. It was the best train ride that I have ever been on. The grade and the view was inspiring. This is a great adventure for children and adults. It even included a box lunch and drink.

Purchased the 2-hr train trip to Cass in July for 14 people. Recommend taking the Greenbrier car, as the seats are in a traditional bus seating. Beautiful trip up to Whitaker Station, 30 minute break, and back down. There are reasonably priced drinks, snacks, and plenty of food at Whitaker station to purchase. Some people had coolers. Could not imagine the 4.5... More

If you are in the Greenbrier/Snowshoe area this is a great day trip to take with the family. The shorter two-hour trip to Whittaker Station is recommended if going with children. However, adults would enjoy the longer trip to the top of the mountain. If you take the early two-hour trip, you also have time to stop by Greenbank Observatory... More

This was an interesting place. We did a little browsing, had lunch at the little cafe by the company store. Visited the depot, then took the train ride to Whitaker station. It was a very slow , smokey, at times ride. But we expected that, what a way to travel. The scenery is o.k. mostly woods&creek areas.Whitaker stop was pretty ho-hum. We did... More

July 4th weekend, I called way in advance but "all houses" we're booked. Seemed that many rows were empty when we arrived for the weekend? Glad we did not stay there since houses were very close together as we drove through late Sat night one of the homes was very boisterous. Luckily found excellent super good priced lodging(with a diner)... More

Our family has been going to Cass for the past 4 years. We love it! The "company houses" have been resurrected. The history has been saved, the steam engines are running up the hill, the ice cream shop is open, the country store is open they have a diner, the barber shop is open (haircut and a shave $8!),history tours... We stayed with friends in one of the houses, we enjoyed it a lot, plenty of space to have dinner, comfortable beds. Almost everything in the description was included: kitchen appliances, linen, wi-fi. They have coffee machine but you need to bring filters with you. The place was very clean. The big downfall was that there was only ONE hand... More
