Generations of people LOVE this place, and I have to believe that some of the younger of them actually were conceived here. For all I know, that could apply even to some of the older ones. I can't say "I don't get it," because I do get it. It's native earth, so to speak and, yes, all the good folks who stay here can see their faces in a mirror. In fact, I almost feel guilty saying negative things, so I'll start by saying the general setting and grounds are beautiful. The buildings look a tad run down, unfortunately, and -- inside -- they leave a lot to be desired. Our room was on the small side and the bathroom -- really outdated -- was teeny. The lighting was provided by three tabletop lamps; not so good. And the food; oh my. Breakfasts were okay; eggs prepared as you specify, breads, and such. Doable. Lunch varied; the salads were the best part. Dinners were not so hot; spaghetti and meat sauce one night. Kind of ick. A chicken barbecue was better. Desserts were outdistancing, said those who ordered one. Or more than one. And while getting away from it all can be a good thing, that really should be up t me if I want things that way. No TVs in the guest rooms. Cell phone service could be had in one area only. Ditto for Internet. Obviously, some people LOVE that. I don't.

I went out to Capon Springs for a weekend retreat, intending to stay two nights. I am very sensitive to mold, was gravely ill for a few years after exposure to toxic mold in water-damaged buildings. The resort is very pretty and charming, fabulous (cold) swimming pool, plentiful (old-fashioned) food, gorgeous porches, some with comfy gliders, amazing flowers, a terrific spa (had such a good massage). So much to love about the place. And the buildings are very lovely. I was in a room that opened onto a wide porch--I thought with all the fresh air, I could manage. But over 24 hours, I got steadily sicker from the indoor molds--in me this causes headaches, insomnia, cognitive problems, and a host of other symptoms. I really tried to stay outdoors as much as possible, but the place (for me) was just toxic. I wanted very much to stay with my wonderful group, but I just had to leave. 24 hours later, I'm still sick from the mold in the buildings. My impression is that the meeting house is the worst, but I had reactions also in the main building--even outdoors on the third floor porch. Proper mold remediation is expensive. I know it is a problem for a big resort with beautiful old buildings. I just felt I should share my experience.

in late August, we five (two grandparents, our daughter and her two children 6 and 8 years old), spent four days and three nights at Capons Springs and Farms. This was our second late August here, we were here back in 2018 as well. We had such a pleasant time then we eagerly returned again in 2019. The grand kids in particular, remembering 2018, looked forward in anticipation to our return. Our second visit did not disappoint, it was as good as the first. In fact it was better since we knew the lay of the land and more about the facility. We stayed in one of the four bedroom houses (the Brent) - note there was no TV in the house and very limited internet. The facility pricing is based solely on number of people and their ages (the actual price per person fluctuates particular week) but this price includes everything, three meals per day served in a common dining hall, or in a pavilion on their golf course, and use of all the features. It is extremely family oriented. The day begins with a flag raising (aided by the children) then breakfast. From then till lunch folks are free to do whatever, swimming in their pool, fed with water from the Capon Spring, tennis, badminton, fishing in their pond, and a host of other games. After lunch its more of the same till dinner. Often there is a program in the evening, we had a great blue grass band one evening (it is West Virginia after all) and bingo on another night, and a dinner at the golf course pavilion the third evening with the kids free to play on the course. The entire time was like an imagined family life in the 1950's. We look forward to returning next year.

I have been going to Capon Springs for over 15 years with my family! This place is magical and truly Heaven on Earth. We have made so many family friends and always enjoy going year after year. Some of the other reviews talk about how out dated this "resort" is... but honestly, that is the beauty of it! Capon is a place to relax and disconnect from real life. No cell service (except on the golf course or hiking trails), no wifi (except in one common building), no tv (also in the common building), and no need to figure out meals! The staff is all wonderful and there to help with anything! They all want you to enjoy yourself. Many activities to do (if your not a golfer) including swimming in their spring-fed pool. This place holds such a special place in my heart and I will continue to go for the rest of my life.

We stayed there two nights. Kids, ages 1-14, seemed to be having a fun time all the time. However, adults note that the accommodations and food were anything but "resort." No air conditioning, no phones in the room, and no cell phone coverage (not sure what we would have done in an emergency in the middle of the night--no way to call 911 or the hotel desk). The room was shabby with worn carpet and tiny beds and with no keys to lock the room. The food was clearly aimed at a child's pallet as it reminded us of Denney's but with no choice of food for either breakfast or dinner. You ate what was put in front of you or nothing at all. We expected something resembling a resort, but it totally missed the mark.
