Our resort property starts out with Smoke Hole Caverns, the brand new gift shop, the main office, and our log motel being located on the same property. As you travel 2 miles north you will see separated the Smoke Hole Log Cabin Resort area and the Smoke Hole Cottage area. Both groups of cabins our located on their private properties and offer a simply gorgeous rural retreat to the Appalachian Mountains.

Lodge (motel) Room 8 was clean and tidy, the black bear quilts were cute. There was a small refrigerator, a Mr. Coffee coffee maker, and Maxwell House coffee in the room with nice Smoke Hole Resort clay coffee cups. However, the room did not have AC so it was hard to fall asleep until the room cooled down with the windows open. However, we then heard everyone outside talking and walking up and down the front porch of the Lodge (motel). There was also no microwave, no hair dryer, and we could not get the Smart TV to connect to cable nor WiFi (Netflix, Hulu). The WiFi was operational but a little slow. The bathroom was clean and well maintained but very small and water pressure was less than desirable. There is no cell phone service in this area of the state. We traveled the the trout ponds at the cabins at the resort and had an enjoyable time feeding the trout. This is a motel so there is no lobby with a communal microwave either.

check in process was easy in the really nice gift shop main building. Room was clean and the bed was comfortable. We used the fire place most of the night which was nice with the provided firewood (although they charge a bit for it). I agree with the other reviews that the hot water was really lacking. You could fill about half of the large tub before it turned cold which basically makes the tub unusable. If you turn the jets on it cools down even more quickly. We were told the room had wi-fi as well when we called but it is too slow to use even by the staff's own admission. We had a little phone signal on our data plan which was acceptable and I guess not surprising for most of WV. Overall we'd stay again, if we got word they had larger hot water tanks, and we had a nice time.

Our family had not had a getaway in years so we planned one to Smoke Hole caverns resort. We stayed in the motel and our room was clean and nice and provided a mini fridge and full size coffee pot which came in handy! I would suggest maybe putting in a small microwave since dining options are a town away. There is however, a snack shack in the resort right next door that’s open until 5 pm. We went on a tour of the cavern the next day and really enjoyed it! Our tour guide was very funny and did a great job of narrating the tour! Our daughter did the mining for gems which was fun and gave her something to do while waiting to go through the caverns which are right beside the motel. The gift shop is huge and has a little bit of everything but a bit pricey.. the motel has a large porch across the front that was nice to sit out on in the evening while the day was winding down. Overall we had a nice time and would return back. The only suggestions I would make is to ask before people check in, about allergies they might have, because our room smelled very strong of room spray and irritated me and my daughter’s asthma/allergies! We left the windows opened all evening to air it out and requested they not spray again while we were there. They made note of that and housekeeping were very respectful about it.

Four of us decided to take a short road trip to Smokehole WV. It was only a 3.5 hr drive from the Indiana.Pa area. We stayed right at the motel at the gift shop and entrance to caverns. The rooms are fine for a couple nights. They had some type of forced air but not your typical A/C unit. It was quite warm at times in room. The room can be a little noisy but the gift shop and caverns close at 5 so after that not real noisy. The cavern tour was about 40 min and was very informative. This cavern is not handicapped accessible and their are a lot of steps. The 2 story gift shop has about anything you would want in a gift shop and their is a very generic golf course on site. And a cafe inside. This location was a very short drive to Yokums Stables were we rode the horses to Seneca Rocks which was very nice. We were about an hour to Blackwater Falls and And Spruce knob lookout which is all worth the drive. We did drive to Dolly Sods but were very disappointed unless you are going hiking their is not much to see and you are on a dirt road for about an hour or more. We were close to Cheetah B s restaurant which was very nice they have a large variety of menu items. There is no cell phone service in the area but the motel does offer WiFi you have access to a pool but it is about a mile up the road. The rooms were clean and simple no hair dryers each room had their own small bench if front of each unit. If you have four people you may want to pack 2 folding chairs Overall for the price and location we would stay here again

We visited Smoke Hole Caverns for my son's birthday and stayed in the A-Frame at the lodge. The accommodations were nice with two bedrooms and a loft with an additional three beds. The room came stocked with plenty of towels and the kitchen was well provisioned with cooking implements. However we had problems with stinkbugs and found mouse droppings in the kitchen.

While there we visited the Gift Shop where I found COVID precautions downright appalling. Despite posted signs to the contrary no staff member wore masks. When confronted with this they stated that they didn't have to because there were plexiglass barriers at the registers. But I saw several staff members throughout the store not behind barriers and not wearing masks. Additionally in their small cafe I saw an employee preparing food while not wearing a mask. I can only assume that staff is not taking the pandemic seriously and has complete disregard for the health and safety of their customers.

We also participated in the cave tour. Several other patrons did not wear masks during the tour and staff members did not enforce State and County guidelines for mask use. Often times during the tour the guide requested people bunch up in tight groups violating a safe six foot distance.

I read a few of the previews comments, and it is likely the cabin we stayed in has since been renovated.
My husband and I stayed for a couple days during New Years weekend in one of the honeymoon cabins and it was very pleasant. It was very clean and well equipped with full size refrigerator, stove, microwave, coffeemaker, plates, cups, silverware and all you might need in the kitchen and bathroom. It was very cold and raining so we enjoyed the fireplace a lot. The landscape is very beautiful and the pond with trouts is a plus.
One request will be to have a small stool or table by the couch to place a drink or coffee while sitting in front of the fireplace. Likewise, there was only one nightstand by the bed. It would be nice to have a second nightstand or tiny table on the other side. The footboard of the bed is oversized and both my husband and I got bruised badly walking past it. The bathroom doesn’t have any air circulation so the door had to be propped open, otherwise it would become awfully cold in there. Regardless, we would love to come back.

We stayed at the cabins. The property is peaceful and beautiful. There is a pond with a fountain. Our cabin was less than a hundred yards from the main river. There was a small waterfall right outside our back door.
I took a moment to thank all involved with our stay on the 6th and 7th of January, 2020.
Not only did the powers that be assist in getting us and our company's technicians all setup while performing work at the Petersburg, WV water treatment plant, but our lodgings were breath taking. What a beautiful place.
As I live and breathe, anytime I will be working in the area from now on, I will request a cabin at Smoke Hole.
Thank you all, once again.

What a great place to stay. If you are looking for a place to stay with friends, family or by yourself in the West Virginia are I would highly recommend Smoke Hole. The facility is extremely well maintained and spotless, the owners are right on property and are super friendly and helpful. We were on a 5 day motorcycle ride and this was our first stop, we met the owner and she gave us some great advice on where to ride the next day as we were continuing south. She sent us to Smoke Hole Road and it was one of the best roads I’ve been on. I highly recommend a visit so plan a trip to Smoke Hole Resort, you wont be disappointed.

The location is beautiful and the resort looks like it would be fun for families in the summertime. The log cabin was clean and towels were plentiful. However, the two biggest draws for the cabin were the fireplace and the jacuzzi tub. While it did have a fireplace and wood bundled beside it, there was a small note on the wood that if it were used, there would be an extra charge on the bill. Rather misleading to advertise a fireplace and charge for the wood. With the tub, there was no way to fill it with hot water. The hot water tap was barely warm. Instructions said to run all hot water until it runs out. Then wait 15 minutes for the hot water tank to recover and run again. After a half hour, it still have not recovered and, of course, the water in the tub was cold. In addition, the pump did not heat the water and the jets were cold too. So no jacuzzi bath either. Very disappointing.

We had so many choices of which we could have stayed at the resort. We chose the Sweetheart cabin. It was perfect. Complete full kitchen. I made sure to bring coffee filters. Should have brought paper towels but the napkins I did bring worked. I will admit that I didn't try the Jacuzzi. The shower stall floor was a little slippery so I laid down the hand towel that was provided. If you are wanting to take advantage of nearby attractions, be sure to check their schedules because nothing was running until late May and a lot only on the weekends. The price was very good and we would come again. It was perfect for us.

Cheetah Bs is about 3 miles from there. I think they now deliver to the cabins. We go there every time we stay at Smoke hole. The food and the service are both great!
