Detailed Reviews
The staff at Cool Font made my best friend’s special day absolutely perfect! Tables, chairs, and table cloths were set up and ready for us to decorate in the brand new reception room. The chef made delicious roast beef. All the servers politely and patiently made sure we had our dinner, drinks, and cake. Sharon, Heather, and Brittnee went above and beyond. They even helped take down our decorations when the party was over.
I would recommend having parties here.

Emily - it was such a lovely event; we are pleased you had such a great experience at Coolfont! We certainly set the bar high and aim to provide superior quality customer service from beginning to end, allowing guests to relax and enjoy the celebration. There were so many complements on the catered menu which was specially tailored for the reception - kudos to Chef Sam and his staff who do great things in the kitchen! Thank you for your review!

My wife and I spend weekends in Berkeley Springs and decided to give the Coolfont Restaurant a shot and were pleasantly surprised. We have heard all about the resurgence of the resort but assumed the restaurant would be average and we were so wrong. The setting was very nice, the bar was packed in the middle of the room and to food was quite good. I got the Caribbean Pork Chop and the flavor was very good and not spicy. My wife got the Chicken Oscar, it was breaded nicely, crab meat was clean and fresh smelling. The spoon bread that comes with it didn’t have a great deal of flavor and the server without hesitation got her mashed potatoes. The drinks we got, an old fashion and a white sangria were both very well done. They also have a very good beer selection from the local brew pubs and your normal industry standards. All in all the service was very good, however the young man that was our server in training was allowed to wear a hat backwards and he wasn’t very attentive although the young lady with him was.
We will definitely return.

HerbG721, thank you for your review! We are pleased that you enjoyed your experience at the Treetop Restaurant and Bar. We really love what Chef Sam, his staff, and Dennis the bartender are doing in Coolfont's kitchen and bar. Please pardon the new server's less than appropriate etiquette; it was his first evening. When you return to Coolfont, I am confident you will see his already polished skills! Follow us on FaceBook to be kept informed of the Treetop Restaurant and Bar's featured dishes and cocktails, upcoming events and schedule of live musical entertainment. We look forward to hosting you again!

Because the Coolfont resort had reopened just prior to the pandemic after being closed for several years, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But we desperately needed a 3 day mini-vacation within driving distance of DC/MD/VA. I crossed my fingers and hoped we wouldn’t find the place in utter disrepair. I needn’t have worried. What a delightful surprise Coolfont turned out to be!
Our King Suite was in the Woodland House, which is nestled in a wooded area across the road from the main lodge. Our rooms were better than I ever expected. They were huge. The large sitting room area included a sofa that let out into an extra bed. The master bedroom itself was also nicely appointed with a comfortable, firm mattress.
We ate dinner at the rustic Coolfont restaurant with a view of the lake, and the food was delicious. Our server was friendly, attentive, and accommodating. The residents and merchants of Berkeley Springs are taking masking and social distancing seriously, which made us feel comfortable everywhere we went.
The 5 mile drive into the main part of town was along a lovely, winding country road. It’s hard to remain stressed when one is surrounded by such beauty.
Be aware that many of the Berkeley Springs shops and activities are closed or have reduced hours because of the pandemic. But the historic springs in the state park at the center of town were open, as were the private Roman baths and some spa services. A long soak in our own private 700 gallon warm mineral Roman bath relaxed us to our bones!
All in all our stay at Coolfont in Berkeley Springs was restful, restorative, and surprisingly affordable. Recommend.

Thank you for your review! We really do enjoy hearing about our guests' Coolfont experience. We are pleased that you enjoyed your lodging accommodations and you're correct, the Woodland House suites are surprisingly spacious and beautifully renovated. Thank you for mentioning the wonderful Treetop Restaurant - we often hear what a hidden gem it is with its fabulous food and great service. You are absolutely correct that the drive from Coolfont to town is beautiful. At one point, it's as though you're under a gorgeous canopy of colored leaves this time of year - it really is magical! The staff at Coolfont work collectively to make each guest's experience relaxing and memorable - we are so happy you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again very soon!

Coolfont has been recently renovated and reopened after years of being closed. My husband and I met there and wanted to go back for our anniversary. We booked a room with a Jacuzzi tub and lake view. Upon arrival, the facility in general was cold indoors. There was no heat in the hallways. The room was cold until we turned the unit on. No heat in the bathroom. Some people were eating with jackets on. The food was ok. However, the dining area was extremely loud. The servers were yelling. The floor in our room began to vibrate which was bizarre. The walls between rooms were so thin that we heard the occupants next to us arguing even though our TV was on. The grounds outback were littered with pieces of insulation. The dining room doesn't serve breakfast so if you stay there's no place nearby to get breakfast. After the disappointing experience, we left the same evening. The positives are that the dessert was tasty and our $246 for the room was refunded.

Thank you for your review. Happy Belated Anniversary. We are sorry you did not enjoy your stay at Coolfont. It is unfortunate you experienced disturbances emanating from another room. Our walls are not thin; nevertheless, it is certainly upsetting when the “neighbors” are exceptionally loud. If the problem had been brought to the attention of the Front Desk, immediate efforts to resolve the issue would have been made by contacting the guests creating the disturbance and/or offering a room change. We are sorry you did not accept the invitation to move to a larger, more private King Suite at the Woodland House, or otherwise allow us to attempt resolution of the issue, before choosing to check out. As you are aware, Coolfont recently reopened in September, 2019, and renovations continue in some areas of the resort. We are sorry the insulation caused an eyesore; it has been removed and properly disposed. You are correct; the Treetop Restaurant does not currently serve breakfast. Its hours and menu are posted on Coolfont’s website. We do offer a complimentary, continental breakfast from 8am-10am. Our in-house baker (the same lovely lady who made the tasty dessert you so enjoyed) makes fresh scones, breads, and/or muffins served with fresh fruit, juice, coffee, tea, granola and yogurts. If you desired a hot breakfast, our concierge would have certainly directed you to numerous, delightful restaurants and cafes in town, had you inquired. Finally, there is heat throughout the Treetop Lodge, including in the restaurant and the restrooms. There is a second dining room available, away from the bar area. If you were uncomfortable, we wish you would have told your server, who would have immediately made accommodations to help make your dining experience more enjoyable. It is our goal for our guests to experience a comfortable and enjoyable stay. We ask that any guest who encounters an issue to please let our staff know so that we may remedy the issue promptly and provide a wonderful experience. Best wishes.

After we checked into our room, which was located in a remote building, I looked at the security measures which suggested we use the safety chain on our door. Our chain had been removed. Then, over the next two days, I was fighting with moths in our room and picking up Bud Light bottle tops off the floor. The "resort" is located in a heavily wooded area and to get to the restaurant you must trudge through high brush to reach the rickety stairs which lead to a curved road that must be traversed. The locals on the roads apparently do not have a speed limit. The stairs are unlit and I took a tumble one morning when heading to the the office in search of a cup of coffee. When using the pool, which is located in a building some distance away, the first thing I had to do was remove three crickets who were enjoying a dip. At breakfast for our party of nine, we were all served at different times since there is only one person who can do the cooking. Merriam-Webster defines resort :a place designed to provide recreation, entertainment, and accommodation especially to vacationers : a community or establishment whose purpose or main industry is catering to vacationers. While this may be the goal, it isn't even close.

We last stayed at Coolfont just before it closed. We've visited Berkeley Springs since and the place had fallen into such disrepair we didn't think it could come back. But it did! They have redone the Woodland House and the main building as well as the pool. Knowing the shape it was in before, this is a marked improvement above how it was in 2004, there's more amenities and the rooms are bigger.
The grounds are easy to walk although there didn't seem to be any marked trails yet.
We only tried a couple of items from the restaurant and we were underwhelmed. It seemed to be overpriced and under-portioned.
The desk staff, Janel, Susan, and Barbara, were the friendliest most knowledgeable and helpful people. They made the visit even more enjoyable.
We brought our dog this time and she had the best time. There is an additional pet fee which is not on the website, so ask first if you're bringing a furry friend.
We'll be back. They are still working on the cabins that can be saved, so the Woodland House or the main building are you choices so far.
The quiet and peacefulness can't be beat.

Wess807, thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are glad you made it back to the area and experienced the new Coolfont. Having opened in September, 2019, we too are excited about what we have to offer our guests now, and for what's to come in the near future. We are so pleased you enjoyed your accommodations at the Woodland House, and that you were able to relax in the beautiful mountainous environment. Coolfont is fortunate to have a great, friendly staff who care about our guests; thank you for appreciating that! We are sorry you were not satisfied with your dining experience, and do hope we can rectify that on your next visit. Thank you. We look forward to hosing you again!

This lodge is a good location being close to Berkeley Springs, however cleanliness needs to improve. Dead bugs throughout our room in Woodland House, just overall dingy. I almost fainted looking at the mattress pad…ended up sleeping on blankets we had in our car laid over the bed. Only 2 towels provided for 3 of us. No TV in bedroom but you can turn the stand in the living room around to make it work if you like. The staff were friendly at checkin and food extremely basic. For the price, I would look elsewhere.

Thank you for your review. I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay at Coolfont. You are correct, the Woodland House two-room suites feature a master bedroom and a living room space where the television is located. Most guests enjoy the TV in the living room but I understand other guests may like it in the bedroom. The cleanliness issues you described are absolutely unacceptable and definitely not how we present our lodging spaces. I have relayed your review to the Head of Housekeeping who will, I'm confident, take all measures to ensure no future guests experience anything similar. We're pleased you found Coolfont's staff friendly. They are very accommodating and will do what they can to make your stay more pleasant including delivering more towels to your room if asked. Happy Travels!

No on site prepared food. It is all frozen and then warmed up/cooked. Waitress was great. Don't waste your time or money on frozen food, instant mashed potatoes and asparagus that looked like green beans and were tough and tastless. More attention to detail. Like cleaning up the leaves and trash along your stone wall. Make the place more presentable and get yourself a real cook. Maybe have certain specials on certain nights. Go back to home cooked meals, not frozen from Sysco. Put a sign out on 522.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I am so sorry your dining experience was unsatisfactory. We have taken great strides toward improvements in the Treetop Restaurant over the past six months. Coolfont welcomed a new, very seasoned Chef to its Treetop Restaurant. Over the past several months, Chef Bishop has revamped the kitchen and both the restaurant and catering menus. He and his staff are consistently receiving excellent reviews on the quality, freshness, taste, and portion size of the meals being served. Coolfont has also established a new wine program and developed a more specific offering of unique signature cocktails. We are now offering mid-week dinner regular features including Taco Monday, Chicken & Ribs on Wednesdays, and Pizza & Pint Nights on Thursday evenings. Signage takes more time and effort than one might imagine, especially with the pandemic and working with outside entities that are short staffed and/or telecommuniting. Nevertheless, we are happy to announce that signage is in the works and will be placed very soon. Your suggestions and feedback are valuable. We hope you will return to Coolfont and give the Treetop Restaurant another chance!

We rented the accessible room in Woodland House. The room was spaciously divided into 2 suites and we were able to park right outside the door. It was cold in the room! We enjoyed having a refrigerator and being within walking distance from the nearby pub and the Coolfont restaurant. I took a hike around the property going way into the woods and up by the water tower - you're just really out in the country and it is very refreshing. We hope Coolfont will continue renovating the cabins so we can stay in Alpine Village next time we come. They were in the middle of a State required lake maintenance cycle when we were there, hoping to come back when that is done so we can enjoy some boating.

The resort has beautiful decor, nice rooms, and a good view from the balcony. Unfortunately the walls are really thin and you can hear the neighbors, people in the hallway, and even the kitchen staff. You also run into the kichen staff when going back and forth from your room due to the shared hallway. We ate at the restaurant twice. Bring your patience if you choose to eat here. On both occasions it took over 15 minutes before our orders were taken and another 30 min to receive our food. The food we had at dinner was okay, but pricey for food that was typical of a Denny's. The breakfast was worse. The pancakes were rock hard and the rest of the food was reminiscent of a hotel buffet. As resort guests you are given 10% off breakfast when the restaurant is open, which we did not receive. Otherwise they provide a continental breakfast of oatmeal, granola bars, mini bagels, cereal, and OJ. Save your money and eat elsewhere.
