Just steps away from the western saloons and aromatic bakeries of downtown Winthrop, the Hotel Rio Vista's rustic facade blends seamlessly with the town's old-time western atmosphere. Overlooking the confluence of the Chewuch and Methow rivers, the hotel features guest rooms that offer private balconies, hand-crafted wood furniture, and works by local artists. A flat-screen HD television and free wireless internet access keep guests connected, while an outdoor picnic area and riverside hot tub offer the chance to unplug within earshot of the mellifluous sounds of nature and the soaring wings of Eagles and Osprey. For winter adventurers, the hotel is just across the pedestrian bridge from the ice rink and start of the Methow Valley's immaculately groomed ski and fat biking trails. The hotel features a Bike and Ski Wax room just for such outdoor activities. All of the Hotel Rio Vista's rooms include free high speed WIFI, DirecTV HD, private riverside decks, coffee bar with Seattle's Best coffee, mini-fridge, hair dryer, A/C, and microwaves.

This is my favorite hotel -- the river view is magical!
I stay at the Hotel Rio Vista any time I'm in Winthrop or the Methow Valley. All the rooms have big windows and a small private deck overlooking the confluence of the Methow and Chewuch rivers. The view is astounding and magical. I stayed there a couple days this week -- the rushing water is such a soothing sound to go to sleep by. I saw a bald eagle fly by and Canada geese were swimming around. It's walking distance to good restaurants (although right now -- April -- is the shoulder season and many restaurants and shops in Winthrop are closed) but the Old Schoolhouse Restaurant with good bar food and burgers was open both nights I was there. The Rio Vista hotel is very clean too and everything in my room worked -- lights, TV, shower, etc. The woman at the front desk was friendly and helpful. The staff hours have been cut back right now due to shoulder season and/or covid, and there was no housekeeping service -- you had to let them know if you needed something but there were plenty of towels and toilet paper in the room. Highly recommended, especially for the wonderful river views.
Thank you for your review! We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us and hope to see you again. You might consider visiting in October to enjoy the beautiful fall colors in the Methow Valley and the North Cascades National Park. Thanks again!

Location ~ pristine clean ~ VIEWS!!
Location - park and walk to everything. Amazing river front balcony rooms and absolutely immaculate Covid-19 compliant hotel. We chose the Riverside King Deluxe which was generous in size, nicer than average bed/thread count sheets/couches and it's furnished by local Methow Valley craftsmen as it pertains to wood working, towel/coat hangers, light fixtures and art. Classy, classic, western motif and a class Icon Hotel that is situated directly on one of two confluences of the river. Solid quiet sleep, no road noise, generous sized room with chairs & tables we played cards from. Solid mini fridge/freezer that worked well and was clean. Recliner lounge chairs at the rivers edge on well manicured and watered green lawns, zero mosquito issues and an amazing hot tub for when Covid-19 restrictions are lifted. Friendly awesome staff with senses of humor & personalities and it is very clearly owned by local living people who care about not only what they offer but how they treat their employees. It was a really nice, clean, pet free, fun place to relax and we'll most definitely be back after the snow falls.....can't wait to stay here in all seasons. Truly a nice find and gem of a place to stay while in the area.
Hi Scott! Thank you so much for the amazing review and we are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and your overall time in the Methow Valley. Please come back anytime, we would be delighted to host you again. -Gretchen, Front Desk

    Wonderful Western Hotel
This is real hidden gem of the Methow Valley Area. The rooms are well modernized but have that western feel. The private balconies overlooking the river and the valley are beautiful. There was even a doe deer and her two fawns that amused us for hours on the little island across from the hotel. You are literally minutes in walking into downtown where there are several nice restaurants, bakeries and fun little shops. There is no elevators to the upper and lower floors but it's worth the work, The staff is very informative and friendly. Such a relaxing place to stay for summer or winter. Love the relaxing sound of the river just outside the room. Can't wait to stay here when I'm in the area: definitely Five Stars

Courteous and helpful staff; clean and comfortable room. Beautiful views of the river from the balcony of ones room, and chairs on the riverbank below where you can spend an unhurried evening soothed by the sound of running waters. Great, considering the location and size of the town.

I wish I knew where they buy their bedding. The beds were a dream...so comfortable. The room was perfect and included a little fridge, microwave and coffee maker. The air conditioner worked well. The best part was the balcony overlooking the river. In the evening we sat and watched bats and common nighthawks catching insects over the river. It was magical, especially with the moon shining on the river. We also saw a mama deer and her baby cross the river amd go bounding off. It is a really great spot to stay in Winthrop!

Very nice hotel in the tourist town of Winthrop, WA. We stayed there as part of a large group traveling together (about 90 people in two hotels in town). The room we had was nicely laid out and appeared to be freshly updated. Liked the spaciousness, layout and view of the river. The river is directly behind the hotel. They have a walkway down to a sitting area adjacent to it. We watched deer crossing the river and eagle perched in a tree on the other side.

We had reservations for two nights and on the evening of the first night discovered we had left very important medications at home. After researching skipping them and attempting to have prescriptions transferred we decided the prudent thing to do was just stay the one night. I approached the front desk and informed them of the situation and that we would have to leave the next morning. I told them I was aware of the cancellation policy and no problem paying for both nights but if they could rent the room perhaps they could apply the credit back. I don't know if the room was rented or not but the email receipt I received the next morning before we left reflected the second night being credited back. We were very pleased at that and the room was great with views of Bald Eagles and deer. Comfortable bed and pillows. We will definitely stay again.

Another great stay. Staff is friendly and attentive. The room was clean and well stocked. Beautiful view of the river. Seating down by the river if you want to enjoy a beverage and listen to the river. Usually find a deer or two wondering in the area. My friends and I take an annual trip and always stay here. Easy walking access to downtown. On this trip the group booked 8 rooms with no issues. Highly recommend.

We stayed here on our return trip from visiting the west coast. The hotel is in a nice location in the downtown area. A lot of the stores were already closed when we checked in around 4. The check-in process was a little slow for only two people ahead of us. The room (deluxe river view) was nice, with the river right below. But, the room could have been laid out better, as the couch was on the same wall as the tv, so you couldn't watch TV from the couch. It was nice to have the doorwall open to hear the river flowing at night. Winthrop was a cute western type town and a nice stop on our route. I would definitely recommend this lodging if staying in Winthrop.

This place is right on highway 20. It is very clean and has a hot tub. This is our second choice of hotels we like to stay at when we visit. They have a after hours checkin, which is very convenient for most people.

Do not rely on policies on their website. I made a reservation. Both the website and the email confirmation indicated I had until 30 days prior to arrival to cancel with a full refund. Neither one mentioned a non-refundable deposit. The next day, I received a voice message that there would be a $150 non-refundable deposit. Before I could call them back to ask about that not agreeing with their stated policies, they charged the deposit to my credit card. They made the charge with NO authorization to charge my card. If they are going to change the terms of a CONFIRMED reservation, they should have the sense to wait for authorization to charge the deposit. I cancelled the reservation. I was afraid that was the tip of the iceberg for issues.

Response from Paul Peterson, Owner at Hotel Rio Vista
Responded Feb 17, 2023
We're glad that you chose to book at the Hotel Rio Vista for the annual Winthrop Rhythm & Blues Festival and are sorry it didn't work out. As we stated in our voicemail within hours of you making your reservation, we charge a $150 non-refundable deposit for reservations over the Rhythm & Blues Festival weekend that occurs in July each year. Unfortunately, our reservation software doesn't allow us to only charge a deposit for a specific event or date, so we call each guest that books for that weekend to notify them of the policy and for authorization to charge the deposit. If guests accept the policy, we charge the deposit for the reservation and email a receipt. If guests do NOT accept, we cancel the reservation without charge or penalty. As is always the case, if a guest is charged incorrectly, we promptly issue a full refund. Within a 24 hour period, you made your reservation, we called you, your reservation was cancelled and a refund was issued to you. I'm glad we were able to resolve your concerns promptly and am sorry it wasn't to your safisfaction.
