Hotel's Favorite
Stayed 2 nights on a trip to North Cascades National Park. The hotel is clean and full of charm. It is very convenient walk to various shops and restaurants in Winthrop. We stayed in a deluxe room with kitchen and pull out sofa bed. It was clean, comfortable, spacious- with a lovely water view. We would stay here again.

Location - park and walk to everything. Amazing river front balcony rooms and absolutely immaculate Covid-19 compliant hotel. We chose the Riverside King Deluxe which was generous in size, nicer than average bed/thread count sheets/couches and it's furnished by local Methow Valley craftsmen as it pertains to wood working, towel/coat hangers, light fixtures and art. Classy, classic, western motif and a class Icon Hotel that is situated directly on one of two confluences of the river. Solid quiet sleep, no road noise, generous sized room with chairs & tables we played cards from. Solid mini fridge/freezer that worked well and was clean. Recliner lounge chairs at the rivers edge on well manicured and watered green lawns, zero mosquito issues and an amazing hot tub for when Covid-19 restrictions are lifted. Friendly awesome staff with senses of humor & personalities and it is very clearly owned by local living people who care about not only what they offer but how they treat their employees. It was a really nice, clean, pet free, fun place to relax and we'll most definitely be back after the snow falls.....can't wait to stay here in all seasons. Truly a nice find and gem of a place to stay while in the area.

This is real hidden gem of the Methow Valley Area. The rooms are well modernized but have that western feel. The private balconies overlooking the river and the valley are beautiful. There was even a doe deer and her two fawns that amused us for hours on the little island across from the hotel. You are literally minutes in walking into downtown where there are several nice restaurants, bakeries and fun little shops. There is no elevators to the upper and lower floors but it's worth the work, The staff is very informative and friendly. Such a relaxing place to stay for summer or winter. Love the relaxing sound of the river just outside the room. Can't wait to stay here when I'm in the area: definitely Five Stars

Do not rely on policies on their website. I made a reservation. Both the website and the email confirmation indicated I had until 30 days prior to arrival to cancel with a full refund. Neither one mentioned a non-refundable deposit. The next day, I received a voice message that there would be a $150 non-refundable deposit. Before I could call them back to ask about that not agreeing with their stated policies, they charged the deposit to my credit card. They made the charge with NO authorization to charge my card. If they are going to change the terms of a CONFIRMED reservation, they should have the sense to wait for authorization to charge the deposit. I cancelled the reservation. I was afraid that was the tip of the iceberg for issues.

Response from Paul Peterson, Owner at Hotel Rio Vista
Responded Feb 17, 2023
We're glad that you chose to book at the Hotel Rio Vista for the annual Winthrop Rhythm & Blues Festival and are sorry it didn't work out. As we stated in our voicemail within hours of you making your reservation, we charge a $150 non-refundable deposit for reservations over the Rhythm & Blues Festival weekend that occurs in July each year. Unfortunately, our reservation software doesn't allow us to only charge a deposit for a specific event or date, so we call each guest that books for that weekend to notify them of the policy and for authorization to charge the deposit. If guests accept the policy, we charge the deposit for the reservation and email a receipt. If guests do NOT accept, we cancel the reservation without charge or penalty. As is always the case, if a guest is charged incorrectly, we promptly issue a full refund. Within a 24 hour period, you made your reservation, we called you, your reservation was cancelled and a refund was issued to you. I'm glad we were able to resolve your concerns promptly and am sorry it wasn't to your safisfaction.

We stayed for one night while exploring the North Cascade region. It was a very good choice for use. The hotel was nice, clean, quiet, and convenient with great river views. It was an easy walk to the shops and restaurants downtown. The only thing keeping us from a 5-star rating was that previous guests had been smoking in the non-smoking room. The staff was prompt to provide an air purifier to help with the smoky smell but in all honesty, that should have been noticed and corrected before our arrival. It's too bad guests don't respect the rules of the hotel but in the end, the hotel management should make sure the rooms are ready for subsequent guests. Despite that one issue, which we believe to be an unfortunate anomaly, we would stay here again.

This was our first visit to Washington and we chose Winthrop near Cascades National Park and the PCT terminus in order to meet our hiker son. We ended up staying 5 nights at Rio del Vista. It was a perfect convenient location. The shops and restaurants were all within walking distance. The park about a half hour. We had a little porch that looked at onto the river. The room was immaculate. Most of all the people we met on this trip were kind and patient in spite of it being end of season and Im sure staff were tired. Everyone wore masks and we felt very comfortable. Winthrop is a lovely town and proud of its history and we enjoyed our stay.

Very nice hotel in the tourist town of Winthrop, WA. We stayed there as part of a large group traveling together (about 90 people in two hotels in town). The room we had was nicely laid out and appeared to be freshly updated. Liked the spaciousness, layout and view of the river. The river is directly behind the hotel. They have a walkway down to a sitting area adjacent to it. We watched deer crossing the river and eagle perched in a tree on the other side.

Clea, comfortable room in town, walking distance to shops and restaurants. Daily room service is still in practice here, which seems rarer and rarer these days. View of the river off the balcony was relaxing, bed was comfortable, room was spacious. This was my first visit to Winthrop and I would stay here again.

The room was fine, however the hotel fails to inform you that the front door of the rooms are 40ft from the highway. So yes the do have a nice river out the back, but first thing in the morning you start to hear the road noise. Also the curtains leave space for light to come in.

Response from Hotel Rio Vista, Other at Hotel Rio Vista
Responded Jul 22, 2022
Thank you for staying with us at the Hotel Rio Vista. We prominently note on our website and in most of our marketing materials that we are located right in downtown and right on the confluence of the Methow and Chewuch Rivers. Google maps also clearly shows our location. Most of our guests appreciate being right in town but also having a fantastic scenic view from their private balconies. Road noise isn't typically an issue because the speed limit in town is 25 miles per hour and our rooms are situated to take advantage of the beautiful views from the balconies on the back of the hotel. All of our rooms have blackout curtains that block out about 99% of the light coming in during the day. However, light can still reflect in between the 2 curtains and above and below the curtains.

A must stay in Winthrop. We had our window and slider open every night listening to the relaxing water after 2 hard days of hiking. The room was very clean and comfortable. The hotel is walking distance to everything you need -eating, shopping or just walking the town trails.
