Walking hand in hand, you see an eagle soar overhead. You stop to skip stones across the water. Four, five, six skips. A perfect moment suspended in time. A story for dinner. This is the place where memories are made, where families come back year after year. Like having your own waterfront cottage, only better. Cartwheels on the grass. A game of badminton at sunset. Leather couches and a glass of Washington state Syrah. The sweet succulent bite of fresh oysters. Rooms that make you say “wow” when you open the door. Can this hotel be only two hours from Seattle? It can. Welcome to Alderbrook Resort & Spa.

Being from a place with very low infection rates it was a struggle for us to consider leaving home for a mini staycation at Alderbrook. WOW was I surprised? They have done such a great job of making the resort and hotel a safe place to relax. You can't beat the view rooms and super cozy king beds. They accommodated my need for no down (but dang those down pillows looked good!). The decor is more than we expected. There are kayak rentals, paddle boat rentals, Stand up Paddle Boards, and more. They light the fire pits at night if you are inclined to make a s'more. The restaurant staff was amazing, as was the room service food and service. Also, room service was really as affordable as going to the resort's main dining area. The whole time I expected Midge Maisel (of Amazon Prime fame) to show up next to us for sunning in the Adirondack chairs at the Hood Canal waterside.

I feel like I'm not articulating how wonderful our 3 nights, 4 days at the resort were. JUST what the Dr ordered for an escape from the anxiety of the ongoing pandemic. Thank you, Alderbrook for all your efforts at keeping guests and staff safe, while serving our desire for a much needed respite from pandemic anxiety.

Business trip took me to Alderbrook and my wife and I loved this property. The rooms are large, well furnished and the beds are great. The hotel staff was amazing. The meeting facilities were great. The restaurant was very good (if the dining room menu is a bit pricey ask for the bar menu). And the lobby area was a real joy to spend time in. We were in a third-floor room which is the top floor of one of the wings and the ceilings in our room were at least 15 foot high or more. Ask for a room in n the top floor. Lots of windows and lots of light. And the grounds are great and the property is right on Hood Canal. It rained every day for the four days we were there but it didn’t stop us from having an absolutely wonderful time. Definitely will return.

We recently hosted a 3 day conference at the Alderbrook Resort and I could not have been happier with the staff, setting, meeting rooms and food. Since the resort is remote, I was concerned that being there for 3 days, especially in February, would feel tedious and isolated - but it was fantastic. The location was picturesque. You could see the water and the trees from the spacious, comfortable rooms, there were hiking trails across the street, and plenty to explore. We went to Union Market for one dinner, but otherwise stayed at the resort - the food and space did not ever get monotonous!
Also, a shout out to our event coordinator at the resort Emma. She really cared about all of the details and made sure we left happy. The whole staff really went above and beyond, thank you!

Considering the price for this waterfront room ($400 per night) it was really over priced. It was small, dated, and poorly appointed. There was only one chair and a small desk but no table. We had room service the first night because the restaurant was booked. We ended up eating with the plates on our laps. There was a bench at the foot of the bed, but it was too close to the TV to be comfortable watching. The deck was just big enough for two small folding chairs and nothing else. The bathroom was so small that the toilet was too close to the wall to allow sitting straight on the seat. Because of the Covid restrictions, many of the advertised amenities were not available, including room cleaning. Masks were required at all times everywhere at the resort. The restaurant was mediocre and I will write a separate review of that. All in all we were very disappointed with our stay.

This is not what it used to be. The property has grown very tried. Don't come.

The restaurant feels like a Denny's and has the food to match. Had dinner. The meat was as much gristle as it was meat. You would be much better off going to the road side bbq place about 15 minutes before you get here.

The lobby still looks ok, but my room (which was a suite) felt very out dated and tired. Just bland. Not comfy at all. Also, the pictures on the web site were totally deceptive. The picture appeared to show a reasonable sized deck. This is barely large enough for two chairs to it, side by side. Its maybe 5 foot by 3 foot. I

I used to come here with my family at least twice a year and this time came on business. I will not be coming back. Ever. I suppose if you just have no choice, if its sleeping in your car or coming here, then maybe it is better than that. But this is not a place to go to as a destination. Way overpriced as well.

Finally, they are exploiting covid to make money. They have a sign saying they are imposing a mandatory 20 percent for all food "because of Covid." Why? What does that have to do with anything. Does self-tipping increase their infection rate?

Staff all feel on edge. Just a very uncomfortable, unhappy experience.

Alderbrook Resort and Spa I love ya, but I am disappointed by our stay last night. We had the pleasure of having another couple join us for an overnight stay in cabin 10. A first for all of us. We have stayed at many 4 and 5 star resorts and I think for what we were charged and willing to pay, our expectations were reasonable. I also recognize that sometimes things don’t go as planned.

Pros: Excellent check-in. Very friendly. Great room service delivery and breakfast was delicious. Beautiful surroundings!

Cons: the Christmas tree in our room could not stand on its own and was leaning against the window when we arrived. There was an open drawer in the kitchen that would not close without assistance from staff. We had to return two dinner meals because the food was too salty (confirmed by the staff and chef). They did comp us for the meals, however. But it is all about the experience. When I called this morning to ask if we could check out 30 min late, I was told no because they are closing the resort for one week at noon. Um, ok so would 30 min have been so painful given that no one would be using our cabin today? And, I couldn’t help but notice at 11:50, while eating breakfast, that things were still hopping at the resort.

We will be back and I sure hope we have a better experience because I suspect if we do, we will be staying frequently.

Lovely place and my room very nice. I was there for only one night to attend a memorial service.

I chose the cheapest room and it was still a few dollars shy of $400. Way overpriced. If I’d had a balcony for that cost, I would’ve thought it was worth it. Guests staying only one night should seriously have that resort fee either halved or comped…. It’s off-putting.

Also , please let guests know when the food Ck arrives, that the tip is already added- even for solo diners. We don’t all look at the Ck and I for one just hand over my charge card. I tipped double and felt taken advantage of. Other diners were indeed told before they double-tipped so please be fair to everyone.

My favorite experience was enjoying the lobby cats!

We had a great stay at Alderbrook and look forward to returning! We visited with our two small children and had a great experience. It’s a great location to explore the national park (staircase entrance is close to hotel and beautiful) and go to Hamma Hamma for oysters, then return to the lovely hotel to use the pool, jump off the dock, kayak, etc. We loved being able to wander around with the kids in the evenings and order a cocktail from the outdoor cafe! The restaurant is beautiful - such a nice atmosphere - and the food is great. All the staff was incredibly helpful. It’s so nice staying at a nice independent resort like this.

As others have mentioned (and as you are warned when booking a room), it seems like this property hosts at least one wedding every summer weekend. We personally were not impacted by the wedding(s) during our visit, but I would be a bit wary about this next time. I was very grateful that we didn’t book a cabin as the cabin area was completely taken over by a large/ somewhat rowdy wedding party playing music/games/drinking beer cans, etc. It meant that the lawn games weren’t available for us to use, but it wasn’t really a big deal. We met one family who wasn’t part of the wedding party but was staying in one of the cabins and I felt bad for them. Also, one of the nights we were there the wedding party completely took over the pool - there must have been 50 people shouting in the pool around 9pm or so. It didn’t affect us, but it would have been frustrating if we were on a couples trip trying to take advantage of the adult only pool hours that evening.

So anyway, I loved it and look forward to returning, but I would be careful before booking a cabin that you won’t essentially be in the middle of a wedding.

jennyt366 - Thank you so much for your kind words. So glad you enjoyed your time at the resort! We do have weddings most weekends in the summer, and as you mention they can sometimes be a large presence. We do our best to let everyone know at the time of booking that there is an event on site during their stay. I am happy the experience did not impact your stay negatively. We hope to see you again soon for more NW adventures! Thank you!

I attended a business function at Alderbrook Resort and Spa last weekend. The facility is gorgeous, but old and in a little disrepair. The heat in our room did not work properly and I had to call down to guest services to figure out their hack to get it to turn on. There was loud music with amplification in the evening right outside our room which was disturbing. The front desk and service staff were very polite and helpful, but the catering for all of the meals was really disappointing. I was assured that they could provide items for meals to fit my dietary needs and all three meals fell short. Either items were not provided, or they were not labeled clearly, or they did not arrive with the rest of our groups meals and we had to eat late during the business portion. If you are going for a function and you have special dietary needs, speak up early and loud so that you don't end up hungry!

As many others have said, the resort is outdated, for the price it’s not worth it right now. They are currently making updates to the restaurant and spa but honestly the entire resort needs a face lift.

The balcony on most rooms are so tiny I couldn’t imagine more than one person on them. We were lucky enough to have a big balcony and it was amazing to sit out there with a board game and enjoy the fresh air and scenery. If you can get the big balcony, it’s worth every penny.

We went for a night for our anniversary, and made reservations at the restaurant. I was pretty shocked when they put us in a hallway. I asked the hostess, if there is anyway to be sat outside (there were 4 empty tables) she said “no we are fully booked and it’s not about where you sit it’s about the food”. She dropped off the menus and left. I get she probably has to say that 100 times a day but for goodness sake show a little empathy, it’s my anniversary, we are paying a lot to stay and you stick us in a hallway at least say sorry or offer something to us? My husband loved the steak and my chicken was horrible :( I ended up getting a burger and fries :( thankfully I had the best company ever so our dinner wasn’t ruined.

The resort seems like a great place for families. The pool is inside but I believe the cover opens.

If we decide to come back we will probably bring the kids and stay in a cottage but not while the restaurant is closed, no need to eat in a hallway again and have a rude hostess tell us to suck it up.

You really should rent a car and stop in Gig Harbor on the way. After you cross the Tacoma Narrows Bridge take the City Center/Wollochet Dr NW exit and head east down the hill, to the waterfront. There are several restaurants and lots of charming shops (art, clothing, and outdoor). There is also the fairly new Harbor History Museum. On your return from the Alderbrook Resort and Spa you might want to stop in Tacoma and visit the LeMay America's Car Museum, the Chihuly Museum of Glass (includes free outdoor exhibits), the Tacoma Art Museum, or the Washington State History Museum. Tacoma also has some wonderful restaurants on the waterfront on Ruston Way. This is also a great place for a stroll.
