Walking hand in hand, you see an eagle soar overhead. You stop to skip stones across the water. Four, five, six skips. A perfect moment suspended in time. A story for dinner. This is the place where memories are made, where families come back year after year. Like having your own waterfront cottage, only better. Cartwheels on the grass. A game of badminton at sunset. Leather couches and a glass of Washington state Syrah. The sweet succulent bite of fresh oysters. Rooms that make you say “wow” when you open the door. Can this hotel be only two hours from Seattle? It can. Welcome to Alderbrook Resort & Spa.

Having visited Alderbrook in the past for cocktails on their lovely lawn, we were excited to share a special anniversary dinner with a group of friends last night. It's hard to express our disappointment with the meal and service. It's not worth going into too many details as it's enough to state that two people at the table ordered the "fresh" pappardelle with meat balls and were served a inedible clump of pasta that was essentially glued together. This should never have left the kitchen AND when we shared with the wait staff the problem, they should have insisted on taking it back to the kitchen. They certainly did apologize, but it was left at that. They gently offered to remake the dish, but didn't seem surprised or very concerned that this was served in the first place. AND IT WAS NOT TAKEN OFF THE VERY EXPENSIVE BILL even though it was clearly not eaten. The rest of the dishes were "ok", but nothing that was memorable (in a positive way) or would cause you to want to return. We also spent the evening pouring our own wine (we ordered several bottles) even though the restaurant was clearly not busy and there were several staff mulling around. I will say that the staff was extremely friendly, just not well trained in how to ensure food and service are up to par in a fine dining restaurant. Finally, when I went to use the ladies room, I found that there was no TP in most of the stalls. Unfortunately, we will not be returning.

We always enjoy a few days stay here, as well as our day visits when we used to have a vacation home in Hoodsport, just 20 minutes drive. Beautiful area by the water, lots of nooks for hanging out on the beautiful grounds, friendly staff. Very welcoming of our Westie dog. Free use of electric car charger. But there were a few unusual defects. Our room was not entirely clean. Floor less than spotless. Coffee mug not clean. Bathroom sink cracked and a tad dirty. 4 bath towels but only one hand towel. Leaves that had blown into the hallway that had not been cleared for the two nights we stayed. Spider webs on the lobby lamps. Doggie poop bag holders with no poop bags. All signs of neglect, unexpected for a resort of this caliber. Restaurant meals were excellent. And again, service providers were attentive and friendly. Enjoy the two cats, Alder and Brook, who are definitely the ambassadors of the resort. Be sure to take a hike through their absolutely wonderful private trails through a stunning forest with brooks of water. Came back to this review to add a caveat to my expressed concerns. Like most businesses, the economic downturn due to Covid19 must have made it difficult for even a place like Alderbrook to sustain. Maybe choices had to be made of what to repair (like the cracked bathroom sink) and what could be maintained when the income stream was impacted for so long. Hopefully, this lovely place will pull out of the downturn and thrive.

arlenejoe, Thank you so much for the feedback. We truly appreciate and use these reviews for training and updating our procedures. While I do appreciate your understanding that COVID has created enormous challenges for the hotel industry, that is no excuse for some of what you experienced. The items mentioned are not up to our standard and I do apologize. If you would like to discuss more please email gm@alderbrookresort.com . Thank you so much and we can't wait to see you again, especially Alder and Brook!

It wasn’t much I didn’t appreciate about this property. The staff are great, The room was fantastic and the food was out of this world. enjoyed the pool and the hot tub! The weather wasn’t the best and we certainly saw our fair share of rain storms come through. I will return!

This resort is usually wonderful in every way for a nice getaway close to the Seattle area. This time we encountered rude dining staff, tv that didn’t work, dirty bathroom with a smelly and obviously unwashed shower curtain and something dirty on the corner on the bathroom floor. I understand that things are much different during Civid times, but this is a luxury resort with prices to match. We talked to the front desk staff. They asked us to leave the room for 2 hours while they found someone to fix the tv. No remedy was given for the lack of cleanliness. We talked with them about our concerns. I’m writing this review because I was quite disappointed in the lack of cleanliness and lack of customer service when we simply wanted to enjoy our weekend.

Stayed here with my husband and two little kids to get fresh air from the pandemic and the city. Fyi, we stayed here a few years ago for a wedding so this is not our first time here. We rented one of the cabins for two nights. The cabin was cozy, and it met our needs for two nights. We had to do room service because of COVID, and there aren't too many eateries nearby. The food's overpriced and not even that good like it used to be. The selections are very limited also. Be prepared to pay a lot when you stay here. The kitchen area of our cabin had a sour smell to it, and I tried following the smell to see where it was coming from; it might've been the sink. Also, the carpet had pine needles everywhere and it looked like it hadn't seen a vacuum in months. I was actually correct about the vacuum portion, since I saw the cleaners only using brooms on the carpet after guests have checked out in the rooms they were cleaning! The other downer was we were only given 1 toilet paper besides the 1/2 a roll that was already on the dispenser. The bedrooms in the cabin we stayed in get really cold at night and in the morning. The thermostat was set to 76 max and if you override it, it'll only be set for a couple of hours then goes back to 70 degrees. The fireplace is what warms up the place, but the heat does not really spread in the bedrooms unless you leave them open over night.
