Walking hand in hand, you see an eagle soar overhead. You stop to skip stones across the water. Four, five, six skips. A perfect moment suspended in time. A story for dinner. This is the place where memories are made, where families come back year after year. Like having your own waterfront cottage, only better. Cartwheels on the grass. A game of badminton at sunset. Leather couches and a glass of Washington state Syrah. The sweet succulent bite of fresh oysters. Rooms that make you say “wow” when you open the door. Can this hotel be only two hours from Seattle? It can. Welcome to Alderbrook Resort & Spa.

I attended a business function at Alderbrook Resort and Spa last weekend. The facility is gorgeous, but old and in a little disrepair. The heat in our room did not work properly and I had to call down to guest services to figure out their hack to get it to turn on. There was loud music with amplification in the evening right outside our room which was disturbing. The front desk and service staff were very polite and helpful, but the catering for all of the meals was really disappointing. I was assured that they could provide items for meals to fit my dietary needs and all three meals fell short. Either items were not provided, or they were not labeled clearly, or they did not arrive with the rest of our groups meals and we had to eat late during the business portion. If you are going for a function and you have special dietary needs, speak up early and loud so that you don't end up hungry!

My partner and I booked a room at the resort to celebrate our anniversary. Turns out there was a big wedding at the hotel the same weekend. We were hoping to spend a nice and relaxing evening sitting by the fire, enjoying the views and the sunset, but the entire front lawn was fenced off for the wedding. The firepit sitting area was also closed to the public. There was another fire pit, but the furniture was missing cushions, with 3 other groups already sitting on the furniture frames, with so it was hard to enjoy. We went to the lobby, hoping we'd get a glass of wine at the bar, but the wedding party took over the lobby as well, so we headed back to the room. Our room faced the courtyard, which was also... you guessed it: the main area for the wedding. Loud music started playing around 6pm. We patiently waited in our room till 9pm, when I'd hope the music would quiet down. Unfortunately, it didn't, so I called the front desk. They told me that their rules state quiet hours start at 11pm (!). The front desk did say they asked the wedding party to turn their music down about 30 minutes prior, but they didn't. I asked if we could be moved to a different room, but they didn't have other rooms. We were offered credit of $100, which is about 10% off our total bill for the weekend. I really wish we got a heads up about the fact that the hotel will be rented out for the wedding, and we'd be only a handful of people there not part of the group (they sent us an email a week prior, welcoming us to the hotel). It is ridiculous to close the primary outdoor areas for hotel guests, and allow music to play so loud at any time of the day, whether it's quiet hours or not.

Had a terrible experience here. Came for an event. First the room keys didn't work and had to go back to the front desk a couple of times to have it fixed. When I finally got into the room, it was so dark (no natural light) and smelled damp. There was left over trash in the room ( an old bottle of beer) and a dead bug on the bathroom curtain. So I asked to have the room changed. They said they didn't have any rooms available without even bothering to check their computer as there were other people checking in. I did see other rooms being cleaned and prepared so I mentioned I am willing to wait if those would be available later but again they said no without even bothering themselves to check. The cherry on top was when the manager suggested that I go "ask the other guests/strangers and see if they would switch their room with me"!!! The manager and the team at the front desk clearly need to be educated on the basics of hospitality. Terrible experience overall and would not recommend staying in this place.

Room Tip: Would not recommend staying here. They don't know anything about managing a resort and don't care...

We visited May 2021 for 2 nights. The lobby was under construction & maybe that was why the older gentleman working wasn’t friendly at arrival & checking out? The room was very dusty & some trash was left in the room. The lights flickered when on low, so that wasn’t relaxing. It is a beautiful hotel, but too secluded & boring for a family. Bring food as the food there is ridiculously expensive. Scheduled pool times was stressful & not accommodating at all. Lastly, be careful in the pool at the 5-6’ drop off. My teen son & I nearly drowned. I was barely able to take a breath & couldn’t skip a breath to yell for help, while trying to assist him. Traumatic experience & for what they charge, they need a lifeguard. The easier trail nearby was nice, but the cougar warning was a little nerve wracking. Not WA natives, so we prefer more interesting mini vacays.

Lovely place and my room very nice. I was there for only one night to attend a memorial service. I chose the cheapest room and it was still a few dollars shy of $400. Way overpriced. If I’d had a balcony for that cost, I would’ve thought it was worth it. Guests staying only one night should seriously have that resort fee either halved or comped…. It’s off-putting. Also , please let guests know when the food Ck arrives, that the tip is already added- even for solo diners. We don’t all look at the Ck and I for one just hand over my charge card. I tipped double and felt taken advantage of. Other diners were indeed told before they double-tipped so please be fair to everyone. My favorite experience was enjoying the lobby cats!

Wonderful, wonderful. We rented a cabin for 5 nights and could not have been happier. The hikes behind the resort were lovely (we only did the shorter ones), and the marina was so easy and fun for a kayak rental. We cooked and did not eat at the restaurant, but did do some of the resort activities, and very much enjoyed the sense of community there as opposed to renting an independent cabin thru Airbnb. My younger son met friends to play with, and while my tween was less social, we had ample things to walk around and enjoy. Easy hour drive to Olympic Nat’l where we also enjoyed a day. Staff was very friendly, would go back in a heartbeat.

We took the Lady Alderbrooke boat for the two hour tour. Beautiful day and guide was very informative. She was from the area and shared personal stories about her grandfather living around the Hood Canal. Highly recommend! Staff were professional too!

We love Alderbrook. The staff went above and beyond helping to celebrate my son's birthday. The location is gorgeous. We've stayed in many room types, the cabins, etc. and they ALL have wonderful qualities. If you have kids of many ages - this is the place for you. Between the hiking, geo-cache, pool, hot-tub and water fun - everyone is sure to find it delightful.

My biggest complaint involves my lost coat: I left my favorite coat in the lobby one night. The staff at the front desk the next morning said they found it and put it behind the desk and the night staff must have done something with it. From that point it disappeared and was never seen again - not in lost and found or anywhere else. I was unable to determine whether they ever talked to the night staff - she reportedly phoned in sick the next day. I didn't think there was adequate follow-through in tracking down my coat, which must either be somewhere in the hotel or lost/ taken by a staff member. Given the cost, I would expect better customer service.

As many others have said, the resort is outdated, for the price it’s not worth it right now. They are currently making updates to the restaurant and spa but honestly the entire resort needs a face lift. The balcony on most rooms are so tiny I couldn’t imagine more than one person on them. We were lucky enough to have a big balcony and it was amazing to sit out there with a board game and enjoy the fresh air and scenery. If you can get the big balcony, it’s worth every penny. We went for a night for our anniversary, and made reservations at the restaurant. I was pretty shocked when they put us in a hallway. I asked the hostess, if there is anyway to be sat outside (there were 4 empty tables) she said “no we are fully booked and it’s not about where you sit it’s about the food”. She dropped off the menus and left. I get she probably has to say that 100 times a day but for goodness sake show a little empathy, it’s my anniversary, we are paying a lot to stay and you stick us in a hallway at least say sorry or offer something to us? My husband loved the steak and my chicken was horrible :( I ended up getting a burger and fries :( thankfully I had the best company ever so our dinner wasn’t ruined. The resort seems like a great place for families. The pool is inside but I believe the cover opens. If we decide to come back we will probably bring the kids and stay in a cottage but not while the restaurant is closed, no need to eat in a hallway again and have a rude hostess tell us to suck it up.
