I will start by saying that this is the first review I have ever written. I will also say I do not need anything fancy for a quick overnight stopover and I have stayed at plenty of outdated, middle-of-nowhere type motels. This place was the filthiest motel I have ever been to. I ended up not staying because I was so grossed out by the room. The pictures online make it look kind of cute and charming in an old-fashioned way and they show rooms with new carpet. This was really misleading. My room (motel, not cabin) had carpet probably from the 80s and it was very dirty. I didn't even take my shoes off it was so filthy. I immediately checked for bed bugs and luckily didn't find any. I decided to take a shower before heading over to the hot tub and there was mildew/mold growing all around in the the crease between the shower wall and tub. I wore my crocs in the shower. Some water leaked out onto the floor and I used a towel to dry it up and when I looked at it it had turned completely brown, meaning they haven't mopped the bathroom floor in who knows how long. The walls and everything had grime on it so I grabbed my Lysol wipes from the car and wiped everything down. Then I decided to go check out the hot tub and see if it looked clean enough to use but when I got there they had signs up saying that it was out of order. So I tried the dry sauna, that was out of order too. I went to the office hoping to ask about both and there was no one there, just a sign with a number to call. I called and requested a partial refund because they advertise as having these amenities. I went back to my room and felt so dirty in there that I went and sat in my car. It was then that I decided I would go somewhere else for the night. I was lucky enough to get in at a place down the road that was so much nicer for only 50 bucks more than this place. I ended up not getting a discount/partial refund from Idle a While which was disappointing considering I didn't stay the night and there was no access to the hot tub or sauna. This place is just filthy and I strongly recommend avoiding staying here if at all possible.…
Nice large room. Comfy bed, fridge, microwave, coffee maker in room. Clean, good A/C. No breakfast, no ice. Manager was friendly and checked us in since we did not have cell phone access to receive the room code. The room was wheelchair accessible but the bathroom was not.
After being hesitant from others reviews, I was happily surprised at the experience we had at the Idle-A-While. We stayed 5 days and it was a perfect location, comfortable cabin and attentive staff (thank you Josh!) The cabins are well heated for the winter and it was minus 5 out over the evenings. The showers were hot and plenty of water. The cabins are rustic, but for the price, very affordable and comfortable. The only thing I would recommend to make the stay a little nicer for guests: 1. Make sure there is enough dish soap (we had to go buy more) 2. A bar of soap for the shower would have been nice, not just one bar for the sink. We had to go buy more 3. Coffee filters for those that do not like Folgers. We bought these as well, brought our own coffee. 4. Better cooking pots/pans, microwave safe plates/bowls. Well stocked goes a long way for those doing the cooking. Keep an inventory list if you are worried they will get stolen. 5. The front right burner did not work. 6. Add some hooks for drying out gear. (That would have been SO nice) All in all a fabulous stay and we look forward to coming back. Thank you !…
I stayed in one of the little freestanding cabins. Furnishings are old, and by fully equipped kitchen, they mean it has a stove and refrigerator. No microwave. Still, it is quaint, and it's nice to have a separate little living room and a kitchen table. If it weren't for the bugs, I'd have given it three stars. Like other hotels, they are using COVID as an excuse to never provide stayover service again. My second day there, the place was now so full of live and dead bugs I asked them to clean it the next morning, just to vacuum up all the bugs! They did, but really it only helps for a few hours, and they didn't do it the rest of my stay even though I asked them to. Stay somewhere else. A tent would have less bugs.
Something new. Electronic Combination Locks on doors. Pretty fancy except at night when you can't see the #'s. Like reading brail. 1st Day room was cleaned. Comfy bed. Toilet for really small people, almost sitting on the floor. Hell getting off if you're a large person. Good brand of Coffee 1st day. You the Traveler, Absolutely don't Count after that. Paying for full service all days, Motel has your Visa. LOL. After the fact, No daily Service, No Coffee, no straightening up room, clean linens, No warning. No Ice Machine, no code for WiFi if there was any? No nothing. Originally I was given a veterans discount 10 or 15%. I asked for 50% for 2nd nite, LOL
This is an older property that is in top condition, but $132 for a single (including taxes and fees) was $40 too much. Wireless internet didn't work--the desk said it was because of smoke from forest fires.
My friend found this place to stay so we could see the balloon launch in the morning. 3 of us and her dog slept well. The kitchen was well equipped. We wish they had a wine opener too. The bathroom shower section leaked water but not a lot. The heater was good enough. The place is quiet and the staff was friendly and helpful. We had a good stay.
Based on other reviews, and even though one person stated "too rustic", I thought, well, online images make it seem ok. All furnishing seemed to be thrift store rejects, nothing matched, our full size refrigerator was in the living room. There was a full kitchen but pots and pans were all scratched up and we had to bring our own paper towels and cleaning up supplies. The bath towels were very thin (not threadbare, just the lowest quality). Fortunately we also brought our own shampoo and soap because we were only given 1 hotel size shampoo and conditioner for our 5 day stay! Also, there was no hair dryer and I had to call the other hotel (Abbey) to get one. Heaters worked well, and good thing as the daily high temperature last week was 29.
I’ve stayed here a few times and it was great! But new owners took over and have 2 BIG complaints! The first is don’t reserve a cabin online!!! I did that and it put me in what it said was the last cabin available and of course it was the most expensive and worst one that did not match the pictures at all!! So the first night we noticed we were the only one so we ended up moving the next night to one that was picture correct and much more comfortable. SO CALL THE OFFICE! The second complaint is the next day we were gone for awhile and I noticed that they had entered my cabin by a towel I had thrown on the floor and it was gone but I let it by and didn’t say anything because I was moving to the cabin that I requested and I thought that was the reason but while we were out the next day they came in AGAIN! All they did was pick up 3 kitchen towels! No cleaning!! WHY?? I stay in a lot of motels and unless I request it they don’t enter until we are gone, I felt that my privacy was invaded!! I don’t know if they went through my stuff and if I was a real dick I could have said a large sum of money missing! SO IF YOU STAY THERE BEWARE! Otherwise the cabins are nice except #127 the one they put me in first.…
Note to self: make reservations in advance when staying in a region with few hotels! The upside of our stay was the towels and sheets were of high quality. The room also had a microwave, full-size couch, mini-fridge, and friendly staff. The not so great - dated carpet, stains on the bed spread, and thin walls. The really not so great - three black bugs (alive) found on the bed and a shower head that was 5 ft high (I measured). This just might win the shortest shower award. Gut feeling is the proprietors are somewhat new to Idle-a-while and that they are working steadily to improve things. That is what I want to believe. If so, there is still much to be done to this 50's strip hotel.
