Travelers' Choice
The Commander's Beach House is the only bed and breakfast that is located right on the water in downtown Port Townsend. You can walk on the beach to Fort Worden or easily stroll three blocks along the water front to all of the downtown shops and restaurants. Three of our rooms face the water and have private baths. Our fourth room faces the garden and has a shared bath located inside of the room. You can enjoy views of Admiralty Inlet, Mt. Baker, Whidbey Island, all of the boats and ships that go into Seattle, as well as vintage wooden schooners and yawls. Eagles, herons, otters and seals are frequently seen by our guests. A full sit down gourmet breakfast is served at individual tables or on our veranda, weather permitting. Come fall asleep lulled by the sounds of the sea and "relax and solve nothing"!

This B&B is as close to perfect as can be. We stayed in the Lighthouse Suite with the waterline just outside our window, listening to the surf at night. The details in this home are charming and so comfortable, the hosts kind and helpful. The seating at the beach and in the garden is just right for morning, afternoon or evening relaxation. Walk easily to the center of town, past the Maritime Center.

What a lovely visit we had at this cozy home, especially during a difficult time! It felt like the perfect beach getaway, with thoughtful hospitality in a very safe environment. We particularly enjoyed the backyard and patio, perfect for coffee in the morning, happy hour in the afternoon, and sunset viewing at night. A quick walk into town provided us the opportunity to explore. The house itself reminded us of a cape cod cottage, with unique west coast history. We would highly recommend staying here on your next visit!

We stumbled upon this B&B after much research on accommodations in Port Townsend for a cute get-away, and it was our luckiest find yet! We arrived late (around 10pm) the night of our arrival having driven from Seattle earlier that day. To our surprise, Jim stayed up for our arrival. Not only were we greeted by the most gracious host, but he took the time to show us around the place, even at that hour. That night, we sat out on the porch after making cups of tea in the Sitting Room, huddled under B&B provided throw blankets, and looked out into the ocean listening to the waves, what a respite after the long drive. We will never forget those moments. The room itself was very clean and the price more than reasonable. We had an adjoining bathroom and it was also spotless. Since the B&B has only a few rooms, it was very quiet during sleep hours and we got a great night's rest with no noise disturbances at all. The next morning, we were treated to a delicious breakfast that Gail made. It really felt like staying over at a family member's vacation house. Breakfast consisted of multiple petite courses, starting with a delicious yogurt parfait, and the homemade quiche was to die for. Yum! Upon leaving, Jim learned that my fiance was a healthcare professional who was just starting out his difficult medical residency program in Seattle. Jim disappeared for a few minutes only to re-appear with a silver dollar coin in his hand and told my fiance, "Rub this for good luck when things get tough." We were incredibly moved by the gesture, and still have the good luck token on our nightstand to this day! This example is exactly what you get with Jim and Gail. They are the best hosts, honest people who make you feel like part of their beach house family. Nothing about this place is commercial, only true, real hospitality that is SO hard to find these days. We recommend the Commander's Beach House to everyone we know, but also selfishly want there to always be a room available because it really is a rare gem. Thank you Jim and Gail!!!

My boyfriend and I stayed a night here to check out nearby Fort Worden. Everything in Port Townsend was closed because of the Coronavirus, but Jim and Gail recommended a great restaurant nearby that was still open. Our morning breakfast was delicious. And the bed in the schooner room was one of the most comfortable mattresses I've ever slept on. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a weekend trip to Port Townsend (once the pandemic is over of course!)

This was a bit of a last minute idea to get away for a couple nights. We had noticed this B&B before walking around town, and we lucked out - they had availability for our two nights. The location is spectacular - our room looked out over the water. Not to fancy, we did have to go down the hall to our dedicated bathroom, but that was not a problem - they provided robes. Everything was clean and comfortable. Jim and Gail were great - very welcoming, and the breakfasts were also quite tasty. We enjoyed conversations with other guests both mornings - it is just a very friendly atmosphere, which seems to be catching! And relaxed, I wished there was more time to just sit around and read my book.
