We have stayed at this inn twice and enjoyed it each time. It’s quiet and peaceful, and a great place to watch the eagles. The restaurant is wonderful but you must be sure to make reservations in advance. Eat on the patio, weather permitting, or enjoy the intimate and charming dining room. We love the breakfast with home made foods, and fresh fruits.

After wanting to stay and eat here due to their ratings, we finally made it after many years and were joined by another couple upon our recommendation. The greeting was a negative experience as we were made to feel like we were interrupting them as they were only partially open due to their COVID restrictions. We were also informed that dinner was not available the nights we were staying, which was one of the main reasons we went there. Our rooms were not serviced and if we wanted anything we had to leave a note outside our door but we were informed to not expect immediate response.
To start with, the restaurant doesn’t take reservations so when my husband and I arrived at 6:00 p.m. tonite, the restaurant seating was at capacity for Covid so we were told we needed to sit in the banquet room which was down the sidewalk a short distance in another building. The room was devoid of color, no art, no style, nothing which was surprising given the menu prices. Our server brought us a carafe of tepid water and glasses. After drinking some, I asked for a glass of ice and she brought a carafe full of ice which was nice to have. I ordered the braised chicken and my husband had the ravioli. We shared a blue greens salad. The meal was devoid of bread. Our entrees were minimal with three strips of chicken for me and both were lacking of flavor. After seating ourselves, our server brought our water, then the ice, then our salad and later our entrees and then picked up our plates—all without a smile (even with a mask you can see in a person’s eyes when they smile), friendliness or verbal interaction. Granted she could be working afraid given Covid and having to work with the public, but even a small amount of friendliness would be helpful for her I’m sure when it comes to tipping. The mail server who came in the room to serve his tables was very friendly and outgoing with his customers. My husband has worked for a multi-star restaurant and was surprised at our experience given the reputation and price range compared to the other wonderful meals we have had in Eastsound this week. I’m hoping it was just one bad night for her, and for the quality of our meal. As we went back in to the main part of the restaurant to pay for our meal, the kitchen door was open and I noticed the chef had a head full of curly hair and a full curly beard and neither were covered. This has always bothered me when I see this. I thought it was a health dept. requirement.…
We had a magnificent, honeymoon-like week-long stay at this beautiful lodging. Our room was like a little apartment, with a cozy sitting area, comfy bed, lovely furniture, and balcony overlooking the ocean, where we spent much time relaxing before and after hikes. The Inn is perfectly located near both charming little Eastsound and the best hiking areas. The owners provide excellent and caring personal service.
Our B&B hosts referred us to Ship Bay for dinner, saying it was the best on the island. So glad we took that advice! I could live on the bread alone. Local oysters, lamb, and halibut all great choices. Charming atmosphere, moderate noise.
Had a lovely meal here in October 2019 with friends. Everything was absolutely delicious, starting with the bread. Featured lots of local ingredients. I had scallops, husband had lamb, friends had chicken and beef. Everyone was pleased and cleaned their plates. Server was super fun, engaging, and friendly. Definitely would return. Didn't stay at the Inn - just enjoyed dinner.
My parents joined my wife and I for dinner at the Inn at Ship Bay. We all had wonderful meals - from scallops to chicken to Waygu beef. Each meal was prepared with local ingredients and was presented in a very enticing way. We'll return the next time we visit Orcas Island.
This review is of the restaurant at the Inn, please not that! My wife and I had the great opportunity to be there on either their second or third day open for the season. Our waiter, Gary who was wonderful, suggested the chef's 6 course sampling; which he would determine; this was for all the courses from appetizer to desert, fish and meat as well. I also added the wine parring to my meal as well. Since this is a farm to table restaurant using locally supplied foods what we had might not be what you'll have, not to mention it's the chef's call as to what comes out. SO let me tell you that that each dish was nicely presented, but more importantly the flavors and the blending of them was unbelievable.
This is one of the few places on the island you can get a really nice sit down dinner. The quality of the food is good but a bit over sold. They raise their own pork and I tried it ...It was good but did not blow me away. I would say in terms of bang for your buck this is solid but not mind blowing. We did not stay at the inn. Location is nice. Cocktails reasonably creative.
