I tried out the Lyle hotel restaurant . Yes it is open for a short time 3-4 days I think I went there on a Friday. Had a flat iron steak that was was cooked perfectly. Atleast to my satisfaction. which is hard to cause,...More
Both the hotel and it's owners are gems. I am so very happy that they have taken on renovating and running this historic hotel. It is coming back to life under their care, attention to detail and hard work. They are employing locals, making great...More
Nice little getaway location. Very convenient to the area wineries. I liked being on the quieter Washington side of the gorge. The beds were comfy and the hotel was renovated nicely although some details could be brought up to the standard of the rest of...More
We found this hotel while driving thru and were glad we did. The owners and staff were friendly and helpful. Room amenities were upscale and included comfortable beds, thick sheets, multiple pillows, terry bathrobes, nice soaks and lotions. The hotel is somewhat limited by its...More
The Lyle Hotel was built by the railroad for employees' layovers. It's rustic with a recent freshening up by new owners. The rooms are small but comfortable. The shared baths are new and spotlessly clean. What sets the hotel apart is it's restaurant - well...More

The hotel is on the Washington side, west of The Dalles and close to the Columbia River. I went with a friend and we stayed in a room that had two twin beds and a view of the river out one of the windows. The hotel is on a small, rural residential street, and it is also close to the train tracks, so there is a bit of train noise at night. We didn't mind it though. In terms of the bathroom, it was almost across the hall, and there were several of them, in case one was occupied. This is a sweet, old funky hotel with a great restaurant, and it's also one of the rare places you can stay on the Gorge outside of The Dalles. Lastly, it definitely has personality and isn't a Motel Six.
