We arrived on Lummi Island from Seattle after a 2 hour drive to arrive at the charming ferry dock carrying 22 cars. It was a swift 5 minute ride during sunset which extended to an equally charming drive from the ferry to the Inn where the restaurant staff eagerly greeted us with our keys to our accommodation. We arrived well past check-in and the staff kept in contact with us to ensure we did not arrive without a warm welcome, well into the evening. We stayed at the Beach House, which includes a private beach, balcony, loft and grassy area with two lounge chairs overlooking the Sound. Lummi Island is spectacular and to add the Willows Inn to the trip was beyond our expectations (which were high). We had the 20 course dinner menu and each plate was foraged locally and made beautifully, with flavors that we had never tasted before and were indescribably delicious. The view from the gorgeous deck combined with full, happy bellies made for an evening of a lifetime. For anyone who is considering coming to this part of the world, I would highly recommend staying at the Beach House, grabbing a good book, kicking your feet up and enjoying the splendor of this region by dining and staying at the Willows Inn. It's a peaceful, tranquil, idyllic getaway. We will be back!

This is a copy of the letter we wrote the Inn: My wife and I have been dreaming about staying and dining at the Willows in for years. On Friday Dec. 7th we were finally able to do so. Unfortunately, our experience was not at all what we expected. We stayed in the Honeysuckle room. When walking up to the room we noticed that the curtain doesn’t cover the entire window making it easy to see into the room. The hallway leading to the room was malodorous. The room itself had cobwebs in the corners and we could hear everything that was said in the kitchen and adjoining rooms. The heat was not able to get the room temperature above 62, requiring a space heater. This lead to the circuit breaker flipping on multiple occasions and not all of the outlets in the room worked even when the circuit breaker wasn’t tripped. We weren’t too worried about the accommodations though because expected the dinner would be the highlight of the evening. Given the accolades and price for the meal we expected to have one of the best meals of our lives. However, we were extremely disappointed from the first course to the last. Starting off with sliced apples and pears reminded us of how we prepare our children’s lunches. The rest of the meal had some good dishes but the quality was inconsistent. For example, my wife’s pork was perfectly cooked and delicious but mine was overdone. The service was very good. The staff were friendly and professional. When we got home we opened the gift bag that we were given. It was quite apropos that the bread was burnt so badly on the bottom that it couldn’t be eaten. I am writing so that others who dream of going to the Willows Inn like we had won’t have the same experience.

The view is great, the service is great, they have a beautiful location that is what I enjoyed the most. I would like to spend more time on the island. The price point per night is steep but if you are heading to a location to get away from it all it makes sense to me.

If you are looking for a special place to celebrate a birthday or other event - this is great place to go. The dinner is expensive but the time that we visited the menu comprised 21 artfully presented tasting dishes. Fortunately we both enjoy seafood as the menu was heavily seafood oriented. We were not able to get a hotel room at the Inn itself but were given a small apartment ( Skallaham Studio) offsite which was quite pleasant. However, we had a little problem entering the apartment because of the unusual operation of the door lock. Be sure to get clear and explicit instructions for locking and unlocking the door if you select this location.

Willows Inn is a truly charming place. Their restaurant, however, provided for one of the best dining experiences of our lives. Being a true foodie, I usually remember places I've traveled to by the food I had while there, and this visit will surely be one of those. Tasting menu boasting with fresh, locally-sourced, epicurean dishes, and presentation that rivals some of the best Michelin-accoladed restaurants. Service was impeccably attentive, professional and personable. We will most definitely be back.
