For 2 nights we had the huge pleasure of using/sleeping in the Harbor Suite, the largest and most expensive room. Is it worth it? Totally! We have each great views from our sitting room, even better views from our private balcony. Watching the sunset over the bay was both beautiful and calming. We could even see some of the view from bed. It is all very comfortable. Each of the available guest rooms looked very attractive and comfortable.

Hosts Michele and Doug are very warm and welcoming. They are very informative about the area. Of course there there was the scrumptious breakfast each morning! An additional treat was special touch provided by a note wishing us happy anniversary with pieces of Lopez Island fudge. On our full day, Michele graciously packed a grand picnic lunch for us, which we enjoyed at a viewpoint at Watmough Preserve.

There is free wifi.

The inn is an easy drive to any of the numerous beautiful areas on the island.

Some examples:

Watmough Preserve, only about a 10 minute drive, then a short hike to a stunning beach, alongside a wetlands, AND up the hill are more fabulous views.

Just a few minutes down the same road is the 15 minute hike to Colville Point, with marvelous scenery abounding.

It is about a three minute drive (or a quick bicycle ride) to the Agate Beach County Park, a beautiful place on its own, and is also the parking area for the hiking trail to the spectacular Iceberg Point. It is also only just a few minutes from Lopez Town. It would also be neat a neat base for bicycle rides to areas.

Would we stay here again? Absolutely!

We spent 5 lovely quiet nights at MacKaye Harbor Inn on the south end of Lopez Island, watching the sunset from our window, walking the beach at low tide in the early morning, having gourmet breakfasts (a different one each morning!), and a lovely porch to tuck in for a read or a nap. As we know the island well, we knew we were not far from good hikes/walks. They had kayaks for use in the large bay. Michelle and Doug went out of their way to accommodate any requests or needs. Highly recommended!

We spent an amazing two nights in the captain's room in this fabulous bed and breakfast Inn. It is a historic house located on a private beach with a beautiful view of the water. Our wonderful hosts, Michelle and Doug tended to our every need without being intrusive. We had a very tasty breakfast served to us every morning. They gave us suggestions of where to go and for places to eat. We wished we could have stayed longer. We will definitely be back!.

This is a small, beautifully kept inn, New England style, with welcoming hosts and fabulous views. Located on the lovely Mackaye Harbor, the area is quiet, peaceful and rejuvenating. Lopez itself is a dream for bicyclers and kayakers. Mostly rural and only accessible by ferry or seaplane, it hosts a sweet village and an entrancing marina.

My husband and I, and our two close friends, had an absolutely fantastic 3-night stay at MacKaye Harbor Inn. TOur room was very comfortable and pretty, the food was excellent, and the view from the dining area was stunning. Michelle and Doug were incredibly helpful throughout our visit - directing us to great beaches and restaurants, suggesting wonderful activities, helping us get to our ferry on time, and giving us lots of interesting background information about the island and inn. We will definitely be back!

We stayed at MacKaye and found the hosts very accommodating and pleasant. Doug and Michele served a wonderful breakfast and were a great source of information. The home is across the street from the harbor and has fabulous views. A great spot for couples!

We chose to spend three nights at the MacKaye Harbor Inn. Our hope was to spend our days there hiking and kayaking. Our hosts, Robin and Mike, took every care to insure that our goals were fulfilled. They were eager to share their knowledge of the area, which was a great help. The breakfasts were great, and the rooms were quiet and comfy.
It was a joy for us to discover that Lopez Island is a hidden treasure of quiet serenity, scenic beauty, glorious water all around, and blessed with wonderfully fresh air. Wildlife abounds. We were blessed with great weather, and every aspect of our visit was a treat.
The Inn’s kayaks live right in the front yard, right on the waterfront. Mike enthusiastically set us up, told us about the high points to see, and we paddled off for hours of fun in the harbor on two different days. The water was crystal clear, the bay was calm, and we relaxed and enjoyed the sights. We photographed river otters, great herons, oyster catchers and deer from distances of 20 feet or less as we quietly floated along. What a treat!
For hiking, Mike recommended Iceberg Point State Park, and what a treat it was to walk through pine forests and emerge into beautiful coastal views as we approached the water’s edge. We had two mellow afternoons trekking there, and we had the entire place to ourselves!
We ate dinner twice at the Bay Café, which was superb. We don’t recommend The Galley.
Our plan is to return again next year! Highly recommended.

I wish I had photos available from this magical place-but perhaps it would just be best if you went there! I have stayed at the Inn and have recommended it to everyone I know. MacKaye Harbor Inn is located on the south end of the best island in the San Juan chain-Lopez Island. Lopez is an amazing place and you sense it's specialness the minute you pull up to the ferry landing. I have been going to Lopez for over 10 years and when I don't stay with friends, I stay at the Inn or at the adjacent Carriage House. Robin and Mike can provide you the history of the island, their wonderful inn, the area, as well as they make some of the best coffee and breakfasts around! They also provide kayaks and bikes for folks staying at the Inn. When I travel to Lopez-I only stay on the south end of the island and once you stay at MacKaye-so will you!

I cannot say enough about the beauty and serenity of this area or the Inn.

Go-you will be thrilled!

Kim

Our 3-night stay at the inn was magical. First, we were upgraded for two of our midweek nights to the Harbor Suite with its own balcony overlooking the bay, where we enjoyed the beautiful views and spacious quarters. The third night we moved to the room we had originally reserved, the Captain's Room on the first floor, which was also very nice and has a fine view and separate seating on the front porch. Both rooms were adorned with beautiful fresh flowers from the garden, artfully arranged.

Breakfast was included with the room rate, and what a breakfast it was. Robin's meal presentations are so artistic, and her breakfasts are nutritious and innovative. We also enjoyed the port and chocolate offered each afternoon.

One of the reasons we had chosen Mackaye Harbor was the inexpensive access to kayaking right from the beach in front of the inn. The tide patterns and weather allowed us to paddle three different times in the bay, in the morning and evening. We loved exploring the coastline and spotting wildlife, including several spectacular bald eagles, frolicking seals, and an otter. Didn't get to see any whales on this trip, but the eagles were a great treat.

Good-quality bikes are also available, and Mike is generous with his time and suggestions on where to bike and kayak as well as good restaurant and walking recommendations. Robin and Mike were very personable hosts with an interesting life story. We hope to be able to make a return trip to their inn and to wonderful Lopez Island in the future.

Hi, I remember you. Would enjoy hosting you in this special spot on the ocean. If your dog would be happy staying at home, that would be best as there really isn't a kennel on island that we can recommend. However, a special lady across the street might consider dog sitting in her home. Her name is Rosie and you could call her a 360-4682091. I haven't checked with yet this year so thanks for reminding me. Robin
