Our family has been coming to Long Beach for 20 years and we have stayed at the Anchorage Cottages, all except for twice. We love the location, north of the city center, and the beach access. We have stayed in 5 different cottages but #8 is our favorite. It has 2 (small) bedrooms and 1 bathroom ( that has plenty of towels). The dining and living room are both open to the kitchen. The furniture is clean and comfortable. The unit was very clean when we arrived. The fireplace ( which we normally love and use daily) was "closed" due to a need to upgrade. 😞 Parking is limited so if you are bringing more then one car, check in with the office.
My only complaint is the kitchen exhaust fan is very old and barely moves any air this cooking odors are strong through out the unit. We just open multiple windows.
There is nothing fancy about any of the cottages here but, for the price, they are perfect for us.

Conveniently located near downtown Long Beach and 1/4 mile from the beach. The cabin was exceptionally clean and comfortable for our 3 night stay. Comfortable bed, couch, pillows and decent television with provided cable. We were thankful for the provided wood - as we had more than enough for 3 nights. We stayed over Thanksgiving and were pleased with the selection of pots and pans for cooking. My only complaints are no coffee filters for the provided coffee pot, 1/2 roll of paper towels only and no cleaning disinfectant. These items are inexpensive yet a real pain to have make a run to the grocery store to buy. Most places I have stayed at include these items.

These cottages are old, from the 1950's, but they are very well maintained. We had unit #10, with two bedrooms and a very large living room and ample kitchen. The staff are only there to clean, but they are pleasant and helpful. There are grass lawns in front and back with games laid out. The beach is a brisk 11 minute walk away. The cottages were extremely clean, and well supplied.

We had been coming to these cottages for over 20 years. and we reserved a unit for Christmas. The cottages are under new management now and the rates per night are a lot more, including a $75 cleaning fee. You have to strip the beds and make sure dishes are cleaned and put away or you are charged an additional $25. What do they do for that $75? Cabin 7 had new floors and new appliances, was nicely decorated and clean. It was very cold when we arrived, it took a while to warm up. No hood vent or light over the oven, hard to see what you are cooking. Tv didn’t work in livingroom, we had to buy batteries for the remote. We were charged for summer rates but the property manager corrected the mistake and gave us a refund. These are older units and there used to be an amazing ocean view. Now the trees have grown up so no view. I doubt we will come back.

We have stayed many times at the Anchorage for over 30 years. After staying in 5, 9, 4 and 2, we have settled in #2 for @ 5 years.

Everything seems to have gone downhill since 2023 and a "property management" company has taken over. Results are not good.

We are in our 70's and technochallenged. A Rocu TV is incomprehensible to us. I told the "management" guy and he poopooed our concerns.

After arrival, sure enough; NO WAY TO WATCH regular channels. There was a Seahawks game on (we are from Seattle) and we couldn't watch the end of that.

I began calling their printed numbers (including the "after hours" number) to no avail.

Despite being assured that someone would get in touch and help, NO ONE EVER BOTHERED.

We were told texting was better, it wasn't.

We will probably go elsewhere in the future.

We have stayed here a few times in the last 6-7 years. Its not fancy, but its a beach cottage, that is clean, full size fridge, microwave, and stove, dinning table. There was 2 chairs, and sofa, board games, a few puzzles, dvd player with a few dvds to watch. The unit we stayed in allowed pets. It also had a fire place, and they supplied wood as well. It has a place in the laundry room to clean your clams, which is great! Even thou we didn't get any this last time (rotten weather) We will be
returning.

Well, where does one start? We had stayed here on a couple of other occasions and loved it. This time, however, it's obvious some changes - which are not in traveller's favor - have been put in place.

First off - we stayed in Cabin #7.

What was wrong? Well, the handle was completely broken off of the refer. (and I made sure to tell the front desk about it) and the rocking chair had massive stains on it (and I also made sure to tell the front desk about this). After mentioning these 2 things to the front desk, what I got was "well, it's hard to do maintenance in the summer because these are always full." That may be but, if so, then give me a discount because you're still charging top dollar (and $10 more for an extra person). Of course, no discount ensued.

Then, oh, let me see..........I had to go get kleenex because the box was out; there were potato chips and dental floss on the floor when we got there; the refer sounded like a Mack truck and my husband (the darling slept on the futon because the bed was miniscule) couldn't really sleep because of it; there is only 1 coffee for you and you must buy extra if you want; you are also asked to leave a tip for the cleaning person (what, am I on a cruise?); and you can purchase extra soap if you want; dishes for our use were chipped (owner saves the good ones for themselves); and towel replacement didn't happen so I had to go troop once again to the office to get them.

Lord............it was a mess...........

It's about 15 minute to the beach.

After I wrote my review on TripAdvisor, the "manager - Beth" contacted me and apologized for all of this and stated that the refer. had been replaced (oh joy) and the filthy rocker had been removed. She offered to give me back one night's stay. I politely responded that since we endured this mess for 2 nights, and there was no offer at the time we were enduring same, that they should really refund 2 nights but to please let me know. About 5 days after initially hearing from "Beth" and not hearing anything else, I called her.

Beth snottily informed me that she just got off the phone with the owner and they weren't going to do anything. She then proceeded to "wish me well."

Yea, this is all quality customer service and makes people want to visit your establishment.

Sadly, this used to be our favorite place. We will now go to our NEW favorite place, Klipsan Beach Cottages - which are much nicer, cleaner, closer to the beach, and completely individual. Check them out!

My husband and I have been staying in the Anchorage Cottages since 2007. We have stayed in cottage #1, #3 and #10. They are all very nice and have all the essentials for a comfortable stay for us; i.e, fully equipped kitchens, comfortable living rooms for TV watching or game playing, comfortable beds and very clean throughout. All of the managers that we have encountered there have been professional, warm and helpful. We have stayed there every year in November since our wedding in 2008. The lodging is not in view of the ocean, but it's not a long walk to the beach. It's conveniently located near town and shopping. We hope to visit during the summer when all their beautiful flowers are in bloom. We highly recommend these delightful cottages. They are great for couples, but there are plenty of rooms that will easily accommodate families. Be sure and book early if the razor clam season is open.

We booked 3 cottages in January and when we arrived in July, the rates had increased by $10 per night. We each stayed 4 nights so that $10 a night adds up. They told us that we were basically screwed and had to pay the extra money if we wanted to stay there. It was my grandma that made the reservations and given her credit card to pay for the rooms. She is in her 80's and the lady in the office was very rude to her and took advantage of the fact that she was an older very noce woman. We should've only been charged the amount we were told in January. I own a company of my own and would NEVER do this to someone. If anything, we should've got a discount when leaving because we had one less person than originally planned and the room I stayed in with my children was a dump. The bath tub was litterally falling apart, the bed had bugs in it and the tv didn't work. VERY bad business.

Response from AnchorageManagement, Manager at The Anchorage Cottages
Responded Aug 11, 2011
A request was made in October of 2010 for accommodations during summer of 2011. At the time of the initial inquiry, the rates were $10 less per cottage, but by the time the reservation was actually made on January 18th, our rates had increased (our first increase in 6 years). We are certain that the booking agent for this party was notified of the new rates at the time of booking and while we regret this misunderstanding, we feel all of our policies were followed and that our management team did not act inappropriately. Though not mentioned in this guest’s review, it is our pleasure to offer a Senior Discount to our qualifying customers and even though that typically applies to only the cottage wherein the senior guest is staying, in this instance we applied the discount to all 3 cottages for all 4 nights--a savings of $135.50 which we feel was a more than generous attempt to assuage any hard feelings due to this misunderstanding. Finally, we are proud of the high standards of cleanliness and comfort that we offer in our cottages and eagerly follow-up on all concerns and criticisms regarding maintenance and upkeep. When we investigated the other complaints of this guest we found the TV working perfectly and nary an insect in sight, just as we expected. While we regret the obvious hard feelings that prompted this poor review of our establishment, we believe with certainty that they are unfounded.

This was a nice cozy accommodation. Love the 50's atmosphere! If you like the feel of the past this is the place! Sort of a mesh-mash of furnishings just like at G-Ma's lake cabin! Nice grass areas and picnic tables. Great trail to the beach thru the grass and trees. Awesome beach! Gas/small store across the street as well as a local tavern. The cottage was clean with exception that dog hair seemed to be on the furniture/bedspreads which of course was attracted to black pants! We knew it was pet friendly so can't really complain...just saying! I'll wear blue jeans next time:) We'd stay here again. Nice place & nice people! FYI: eat at Laurie's Breakfast House (main street)if you want a meal that holds you over until dinner! LOTS of oversize servings and great peeps working there!!... and LBT (Tavern/main street too) for great pizza (18" & 5 lbs of toppings?) and other options...huge portions and great food!!!!

No, no views from here. The cottages are 1/4 mile away from the surf. It’s a walk through the forest. There’s a large lawn.
