Opened in 1995, Bull Hill Guest Ranch is part of a large working cattle ranch that dates back to 1903. Rich in history and tradition, the ranch today has become a favored destination for families, corporate retreats and the outdoor adventurer who is looking for authentic western living amidst the tall pines and cedars. It is especially noted for its fly fishing and horseback riding.
We stayed two nights in the Loredo Glamping tent, the food was delicious and the people running the operation were there to make it an excellent experience. Brent took us on a 4 hour ride to drive some cattle (a first for me and I loved every second of it). Hunter set us up with trap shooting and Joey, Sam, and Ali took great care of the horses and us as the riders. Joe knew which lures worked best for fishing in the lake, which also felt amazing to cool off in when the day got hot, and the view is spectacular. I highly recommend Bull Hill Ranch and we for sure will be going back!

Stayed 3 days and I can't say enough about the hospitality of the wranglers, especially Jackie. She took her time to custom fit our wants for riding including a cattle drive that took about 4 hours to complete. I was sore after that ride, but well worth it. We covered alot of terrain and had great conversations with the other guests that tagged along. The fall colors were amazing. We ended our stay with a trip to the "Saloon" in the middle of no where. Great fun. I'd recommend this ranch to anyone who loves to ride period.

The Best experience Ever! Our 5th time up the mountain and it just gets better and better with every passing year! Family owned and operated they welcome you to become part of their family. The cabins are comfy and cozy and complete the rustic mountain ranch experience. The wranglers take you on different trail rides everyday and if you stayed a month you would not experience every trail on their mountain and the wranglers are so accommodating! They have special rides to the Saloon and a cattle drive too! There is not only horseback rides, but also horseshoes, cornhole, skeet shooting, fishing (catch and release) and boating on their private lake. To top all of that off…the food is most excellent and the cook will have meals prepared for you tailored to your tastes and needs (I don’t eat anything on four legs) AND a fully stocked all can drink bar! Another kudo…it is ALL INCLUDED!! No nickel and dimming goes on here. Oh, and the wild life? We have seen (not up close mind you) bunnies, bears and deer. Trust me, I have visited other ranches and none have come close to Bull Hill. The word is out, so you will need to book early!

We loved our time at Bull Hill. It was an absolutely beautiful setting. We had Megan as our wrangler and she was awesome. We are in our 60's and she took such good care of us and planned our rides to suit what we wanted to do every day. We've been to large dude ranches that have planned activities to choose from, but this was a very personal experience. The rides were pretty strenuous due to the mountainous terrain, so we were glad that we exercised before going.

When you arrive the staff greets you but after that you are on your own. The wranglers sit at the bar at night with their backs to you. Sit by yourself at meals and feel awkward until you insert yourself into a group...no introductions or attempts to make you feel welcome. It was so hot only 1 short ride offered daily. Our "guide" road in silence...no description of scenery or history of the ranch given. Super grumpy. Nose to butt riding. I asked to go on a cattle drive before and during my stay. Totally ignored and I'm an experienced rider! Then, after 5 days of asking I found out they took 2 people who just arrived on a drive and they had not even requested to go. Oh...and a lot of yelling/cursing at the horses when trying to catch them as well as some pretty rough handling. So many other ranches available...do not waste your money here.

The cabins are beautiful but come with mice/rats,proof of which, is the poison under your bed! One daring critter crawled into my friends hand in the middle of the night! It's all inclusive, so for lunch they served tuna fish sandwiches! All of that would've been ok if it wasn't for all the accidents that took place from their neglect. The staff is more interested in drinking all night then their clients safety. At least one person per day feel off a horse. Due to their neglect. My friend had a terrible accident, she was a beginner rider the wrangler took off at a gallop ON gravel! (Unbelievable !) her horse didn't want to get left behind and bucked her off! She hit her head, they never offered her a helmet, nor did they ask her level of riding ability! They took her back to the lodge and left her! No one checked to make sure she was ok ! So she walked up a steep hill to her cabin and fell asleep for several hours with no one checking on her. She eventually went down to the lodge and was ignored until she got physically ill at which point I had to clean up the mess and take her to the emergency that was an hour away. There we where informed another "guest" had been admitted with a broken arm from being bucked off a horse at the same ranch. My friend had to get stitches in her head and had severe bruising. The next day all they asked us is if we had given them our liability form. We had mailed all our info ahead of time. So they would know our level of experience , they never even looked at it!

I stayed for two days the first week in August. They do have beautiful well-cared for horses. The rides were through clearcuts and weeds and the cookhouse/dining room was surrounded by invasive weeds.
The food was ordinary and the whole experience over-priced.

We visited here August of 2017. The ranch and its surrounding area are truly beautiful, however, that is where the good times end. The horse back riding was pitiful with nose to butt trail riding the only option available. They said we would go on a cattle drive but it was cancelled on the day of. The cook was by far the friendliest person on the ranch with the wranglers being standoffish at best and of little help on or off the trail. However, there was plenty of alcohol consumption opportunities if that is of interest. For 15$ a head they will ride you to a saloon where you can consume as much as you want. Since my party didn't drink, we asked to take another ride. We were surprised when the wrangler took us to the saloon anyway and we had to sit around for three hours drinking overpriced soft drinks. The cabins are rustic and in cold weather and you will have to get up at various times during the night to put wood in the fireplace. Unfortunately the fishing and skeet shooting also turned out to be uneventful. In our opinion this trip was overpriced, and even worse, extremely boring. Suffice is to say, we will not be going back again.

My experience with Bull Hill was fantastic. I went here on a little solo trip for 4 nights, needing a break and rest from city life. There were a few couples and one family staying as well. The family said this was their 5th or 6th consecutive year coming back. When I arrived, check-in was easy and quick and my cabin was charming. You are on top of a mountain away from anything so yes, animals are part of the scene... having said that, my cabin was super clean, the showers hot and there were no signs of any little critters. The staff was kind and asked how I would like to spend my afternoon~ if I preferred to rest or to go on a ride before dinner. They have a nice little lake with canoes and wonderful trails and BEAUTIFUL look outs. When I wasn't on horseback, I would sit in rocking chairs on the front porch of the cookhouse overlooking a gorgeous valley and read a book. Meals are very much family style... because guess what, a family runs the place. It's very much the feeling that they have opened their home to you and you are a guest. So yes, the food is not high end but there is plenty of it and it's home made. Again, I'm pretty picky and everything I was offered was great. Plus this is the type of place that just wants to make people happy, so had I not liked something, I'm guessing their cook probably would have made me something else.
One reviewer said the staff is more interested in drinking all night. Here is my take on that... when I was there we had just finished a long ride. We were all hot, sweaty, tired and ready for dinner. We ate our meal and then we all sat around and shared stories and talked and drank. It wasn't out of hand. It wasn't them slacking. Again, it was like being in their home and having after dinner drinks. These folks are so down-to-earth, hard-working ranchers. We spoke about life on a ranch and about their family and the land and it was lovely.
As for riding, I am a very experienced rider. Even so, they put me on a very easy going mare (a girl horse) who was probably better suited for a beginner or kid. But it was the first ride of me being there and I could tell they wanted to feel out my skillset. It doesn't matter if someone says I have experience or I'm a beginner because each person's idea of what that means is so different. I can attest that they held my safety at a high level by not just trusting what I wrote down on paper but instead evaluating my skills in person and on horseback. On the second ride they gave me a high spirited gelding (a boy horse) who was faster and more strong-willed and by the third ride I could choose whatever horse I wanted. Even as an experienced rider, I appreciated them being sure I could handle the horse before just throwing me on anything. As for getting bucked off- no one on our trip had any accidents. Just like any vacation excursion (snow skiing, parasailing, snorkeling, etc.) riding has risks of its own. Even the little kiddie pony's that walk in a circle at state fairs buck their riders. It comes with the territory. While I can't see any of the staff I met not being concerned for an injured guest, I can also imagine that to them it wasn't really a huge deal. I've been thrown and bucked off plenty of times and if I saw someone on my trip get bucked off, I would feel badly for them but not think, "oh my gosh this is life or death emergency room situation." I guess I just feel it's unfair for reviewers to give a bad review because they were injured by an accident that the staff really has no control over. But... each to their own opinion.
In summation, I loved my stay at Bull Hill and plan to return with my family. I give my recommendation for singles, couples, families and corporate retreats.

Worked here for 2 weeks and quit. Don’t work here if you care at all about horses or people. Don’t expect to be greeted when you arrive or trained at all for the job. It’s an every man for himself kind of business. There is no team or family. I don’t know how they get away with what they do. There is so much negligence everywhere and no regard for guest safety. They kept telling me to stop questioning what they were doing and act like I’m on “vacation” and just do what I’m told. However my morals and better judgement told me not to. Lots of drinking by both staff and guests, falling off horses, and slipping saddles. Nothing is a big deal here. There is also no knowledge of basic horsemanship skills which puts the horse and rider at risk. Overall very disappointed with the ranch. I would not support them or work for them.

Hello Susan,
Your Granddaughter will definitely be able to go on trail rides with us. In addition, we usually go for a 2-3 hr ride in the morning and come back for lunch. Then, in the afternoon, we go back out for another 2-3 hour ride. That said, your granddaughter will be able to get in plenty of ride time (6 hours or more a day). Furthermore, she is more than welcome to help the wranglers feed and groom the horses in the barn in the mornings, evenings, and in-between rides.
The total for 2 adults, 1 Junior for 4 nights in a Ranch Cabin will be $2,754.56. And again, our rates are all inclusive which includes lodging, meals, beer/wine/spirits/soft drinks, horseback riding, cattle drives, skeet shooting, boating/swimming/fishing, campfires, and all other activities.
