Nestled on the beachfront, Kalaloch Lodge at Olympic National Park is celebrated for its scenic views, which many travelers find ideal for peaceful exploration. The lodge's cleanliness and rustic charm are consistently praised, with guests appreciating the well-stocked kitchens and comfortable bedding. While the amenities, including pet-friendly options, are generally well-received, some visitors miss Wi-Fi and a more extensive restaurant menu.
Opinions on value and service vary, with the outstanding friendliness of staff sometimes contrasted by less accommodating experiences. The rooms offer functional comfort with a rustic touch, though a few guests deem them basic for the price.

Detailed Reviews
This was the first time that I had stayed at the Kalaloch Lodge & I would like to return. Rooms in the Lodge or individual cabins are available, but only the cabins are pet friendly so, I stayed in a cabin since I was traveling with my dogs. The cabins were built in the 1920's & glamping did not exist in those days so, I had realistic expectations when I booked a cabin. The cabin actually exceeded my expectations; the mattress was firm & comfortable, the small bathroom had been modestly upgraded & even had a ceiling heat light, the kitchenette appliances that I used (mini-fridge & microwave) were clean & worked. There was also an electric stovetop & a wood burning stand alone fireplace that I did not use though free daily bundles of wood & kindling were provided. There was a bar height table with 4 chairs & a vinyl upholstered sofa & some other functional furniture. I appreciated the staff's efforts to adapt to Covid-19 concerns by supplying disposable plates, cutlery, sanitizing wipes & a bin of clean basic cookware. I showed my appreciation by leaving a modest tip, though it was unsolicited.
However, if you want to stay in an immaculately clean cabin, this is not the place for you. The ceramic tile flooring was not spotless (grime has accumulated on it over the decades) & the wood beams of the cabin could have used a good dusting/cleaning, but the overall level of cleanliness was acceptable to me. The reception area is in the same building as the restaurant & the sign on the building states registration which I found confusing, but that is where you check in.

We found our cabin, number 31 (pet-free) nearly perfect. All the cabins with the uninterrupted view of the ocean on the bluff were unavailable but we were happy with ours, which is in the row behind. It’s a cheaper option and the cabins are staggered so we still got a wide slice of ocean view. The expensive restaurant is takeout only so we brought our own food. You find a big bin in the cabin full of quality cookware. Plenty of fluffy pillows and towels, shampoo, dish soap and a dish sponge. The downside is the paper plates and cups and compostable flatware. No bowls for cereal. So bring your own mugs (I had to buy one in the gift store for $14), bowls, paper towels, and silverware. The mini-mart is handy for snacks and beverages. Wood for the very efficient wood stove is delivered daily. Very quiet at night. The beach is SPECTACULAR and big enough for very long walks.

It rained a lot while we were there but we came prepared with things to do. The lodge and cabins are rustic but the bedding was nice. They are "cozy" for sleeping and they only have 1 bathroom in any of them. We were in #27 (2 rooms with 2 beds and a futon, kitchenette) which had an unobstructed view of the ocean which was nice as the cabins right on the bluff have the best views but for more money. You are provided with a big plastic tub with some cooking supplies but here is what you need to bring: Napkins, Dishtowels, Toaster, cooking spray and anything you need for cooking, plates, utensils, etc. The little market by the lodge has a few things but is a little expensive but convenient. Not much else is nearby. The restaurant has a limited menu for B, L and D and they pkg up your order for you to take back to your room or eat at an outside table. You can't sit in the lodge and eat it in the dining room. Walking on the beach is great but we had such strong rain that it created rivers with water pouring off the bluff out to the ocean so bring rain boots, waterproof shoes etc. Lots of people have dogs here and they are allowed in cabins. Unlike some of the other lodges in Olympic NP, there isn't a "great room" here for you to relax and sit by a large fire so your only option is your room, which doesn't have lounge type chairs but only the dining table or futon. Ours had a wood burning stove and the lodge provides you with a bundle of wood each day which is nice. No WIFI and poor cell coverage and best spot seemed to be outside on patio behind registration desk. Lots of great nearby hikes. I'd recommend going to Ruby beach if you can. Rain forest hikes aren't too far away.

Kalaloch Lodge is a collection of single, duplex, and deluxe (comparatively) cabins. There is also the main building which in normal times has a restaurant and bar and some guest rooms. There is also a small store with a limited selection of groceries. Espresso drinks, and ice cream cones (big ones).
We were in cabin L23, a single unit with two full beds and a futon. There was a table, a two burner cook top, a small under counter refrigerator, coffee maker, and a microwave. Cookware and implements were delivered from the front desk in a rubber tote box so they were clean. Plates, cups, and tableware were disposable/compostable and sealed. There was also a woodstove although the cabin also had an electric heating unit. A bundle of wood was delivered to our doorstep every morning. There was no daily housekeeping service which was fine with us.
Since potable water is limited, the cabin has low flow devices and a small hot water heater. So the tickle of hot water from the shower head was just enough for about 5 minutes.
Perhaps the greatest attraction for us besides the beach was the absence of WiFi on the grounds, no social media temptation. Cell phone signals were unreliable and intermittent, but enough to remain connected to friends.
In summary, this is an adequate place to stay as a base for exploring the Olympic National Park. The facilities are comfortable and clean. The food is good and plentiful. The staff are pleasant and helpful. And there aren't any other lodgings or food services available for miles.

Please note that Kalaloch Lodge no longer has direct beach access - a storm several weeks ago destroyed the stairway to the beach and a plan has yet to be developed to restore it (per the front desk person I spoke with). We booked this location last week with the expectation we’d be able to walk down to the beach from our cabin as per the descriptions on the web page, map, etc. I believe I should have been informed of this significant change when I called to make our reservation.
When I checked in, the party ahead of me at the registration desk booked a night - at the end of the transaction, as they were being handed their room key, they were informed that there was no beach access. They were surprised, I was surprised.
Kalaloch Lodge really should update the webpage and booking information to indicate the closest beach access is now a short car drive away.
Aside from this, we had a fine stay in rustic, small Cabin 2 - beautiful beach and creek view. The kitchen was adequately stocked. Everything was tidy and clean. The little sofa, however, is worn out and should be replaced.
Our meal at the restaurant was quite good.
Every staff person we interacted with was excellent.
Overall, for the price, a disappointment. Would have booked somewhere else had I known there was no beach access.

Quaint accommodations that has been impacted by COVID. Beach access has been restored, so that was a plus. Cynthia at the front desk was very helpful, pleasant, and professional.
You will need to bring all kitchen utensils/dishes because, due to COVID, only plastic utensils and paper plates are provided. The shower is weak but they do provide body wash, shampoo, and conditioner.
Fairly spacious for a one room accommodation. Dining room table was like sitting at a diner, which was fun for my daughter.

If it was possible to give this lodge a zero, I would. My husband and I went on a 12 day trip around Olympic National Park in September 2021. We stayed in 6 different locations on our trip and Kalaloch Lodge was the most disappointing. We were there Sept. 23 and 24, 2021.
We were so excited for the stay as we had a beautiful view from our deck. However that view did not make up for the disgusting filth we found in the room. We didn't notice the dirt when we walked in the room the afternoon we arrived. We went straight out to enjoy the sunset. The next day however when I went to shower, that's when I first noticed the mold in the shower. I started looking around more and that's when I noticed all the other nasty things. The room did not look like it had been vacuumed, filth on the baseboard heaters, dust bunnies, candy left on the floor (not mine), etc, etc. The pictures will speak for themselves. When we went down to the front desk, the man there was very nice and offered to comp us a night. They sent down the cleaning people but there was not much they could do. . We stayed one more night. That night I thought I heard something but didn't get up to investigate. I wish I had. The next morning when we were packing up, we found that our food which was in bags (remember they have a microwave and refrigerator in the rooms so food is expected to be in rooms) had been eaten. We had critters in our room. We were given another $100 to cover the cost of the food. Probably the most ironic thing about all of this was that they had a sign at the front stating how much cleaning they were doing and they kept sending emails to my husband about all the covid precautions they were following.
I wish I had been more careful reading the reviews before we went. When we talked with the cleaning supervisor she said they were unable to get cleaning supplies like bleach. I told her this was not a short term lack of cleaning situation but was long term and according to the reviews this has been going on for years now and is not covid related.
Needless to say, we will not be returning.

Back for another stay at the Kalaloch bluff cabins. I forget how many times now. It is true that a big storm washed out the stair access to the beach and oddly enough, all the logs on the beach too. I wish I had been there to see it. The walk to the beach access in the near-by camp ground is about 10 minutes so don't despair. My cabin was clean comfortable and exactly like expected. The restaurant in the lodge was closed but heck, who could blame them after all the happenings in 2020. They are scheduled to reopen soon. If you want to listen to the surf, watch the ocean, and walk miles of sandy uncrowded beach you have come to the best place. The folks that complain because the accommodations don't merit the price, are here for the wrong reasons and totally missing the point.

Unfortunately the Kalaloch lodge has gone downhill. We won’t be returning. My husband and I stayed here a few years ago and couldn’t wait to get back. This stay was extremely different and very disappointing. We arrived early, Prior to check in, but I was told if our cabin was ready earlier, we could get in, so to check back. We were fine with waiting. It was a beautiful day and the main thing Kalaloch has going for it is it’s beach location. We checked back multiple times and were told they were still working on our cabin. No problem. The official check in time is 4pm according to their information page, but I was told that check in wasn’t until 4:30. At 4:30, our cabin still wasn’t ready, but I did find out which cabin we were going to be staying in. We walked over to find its location and the next door cabin had a huge party of people spilling into our cabins yard. I told the front desk that was not acceptable and I would like to be assigned a cabin not next to that many people. I was told by the front staff that no one was assigned to that cabin next to us. To which I informed them that clearly there was since the door was wide open and tons of people were going in and out as well as tons of people in the front yards. Mind you, the cabins are at the most 10 feet apart with doors facing each other. By this time it was around 5pm. Still no cabin. The staff became rude and it was an issue and seemed very confusing for the front staff to figure out how to change our cabin. We finally were moved and got into our cabin after 5pm. Maintenance brought us a broken small grill, which they charged me for, with no prior mention of the charge. So ultimately I was charged over $350 for less than 6 hours with access to the cabin. (About 5:30pm-11am which was “check out”) we checked out early and will be staying somewhere else in the future.

The views from the cabins are amazing and the price is high because of this and I get it. Our stayed there was fine except for this. Unfortunately the winter storms have taken up the stairs to the beach and also the gazebo the icon of this place! Didn’t read that in the brochure.
I don’t know who manages your cleaning staff, but they are in need of some serious training and how to clean. The property management should really check into this because in my book it is out of control. As you can see by the pictures they do not deep clean very well or at all in my opinion. Changing the bed linens and wiping down the shower does not make the place clean. The windows were dirty which I had to clean because it drove me nuts. There’s spiderwebs in the lights and the microwave is old and rusty. For what you pay this is uncalled for. I’m not sure if they really even mop the floors or steam clean them because they don’t look it. Mold on the curtain!!! Really?
I know it’s a time of Covid and now is the time you should be taking extra care in trying to clean. Another thing is the way you present your utensils. I’m fine with the tote to know that they were changed. You could use maybe a clear plastic one that looks better than the cheap one that you can buy at Walmart. Maybe some uniformity to the utensils also instead of just it looks like you picked up at the Goodwill. Paper cups to drink my coffee! Who knows who’s been touching those. Luckily I brought my own.
Whoever stays here take a moment to look around at what you’re getting inside as well as out. I hope this is reviewed by management and that they address this poor situation on their property.
We have stayed at other national parks and lodges and this one really falls short. It is such a shame for ruins the experience of how beautiful the area really is.

We stayed in a cabin in September which did have hvac control, not sure about rooms.
The mercantile is quite nice and has a variety of coffee drinks and some prepared food to pick up.
I agree. We liked the food there.
8Am to 8 PM. In my opinion, the higher the cabin ##, the best views. the first 2 are not so good, the 2nd two are so-so, all the others are great. great beach for surf fishing is south beach about 2 miles to the south. Red tail perch. taste like dover sole. use power bait or a clam neck for bait. wear waders. and watch out for big surf. an inflatable life vest is good insurance.
