This historic Craftsman Bungalow was built as a vacation hotel by a stone mason in 1907. In a later incarnation, colorful resident and steamship captain, "Cap" Ferris brought a baby orphaned kangaroo to live with him and his family. The locals dubbed the sprawling lodge the "Kangaroo House" Since then it has become a B&B and is the longest continually operating bed & breakfast in the San Juan Islands. We have 5 Rooms/Suites, all with Private Bathrooms, King or Queen beds and some with additional beds and DVD players/movies, Free WiFi, Garden Hot Tub, and an exceptional, filling breakfast made from scratch including wholesome, local fruits, meats, vegetables and herbs from Orcas Island's own farms and gardens.

We loved everything about our visit to the Kangaroo House. It’s a charming, impeccably maintained Craftsman with lovely peaceful surrounding gardens. We stayed in the Stellar Jay suite, which was large and nicely appointed. It was blissfully quiet. It’s an easy one- mike walk to town and a five minute walk to the Outer Island whale watching boat launch. But the best thing about this place is the owners: their gracious hospitality and spectacular cooking. Each morning began with an exquisite 3-course breakfast, including fresh fruit, egg and meat dishes and delicious fresh-baked goods. Jill and Charles are so warm, friendly and accommodating. They were also extremely conscientious about social distancing and cleaning, which we truly appreciated. Can’t wait to come back some day!

We finished up a trip to Alaska with a stopover on Orcas Island and stayed at this B&B. The island is magical and our hosts, Charles and Jill, were beyond kind and helpful every step of our stay. We were in the Stellar Jay room. The bed is very comfortable, the bedding beautiful, and the handmade soap topped it off. We are from a different time zone and it was so nice to have quality coffee available early in the morning in the common area. The breakfasts are not to be missed. Organic and delicious ingredients made with the utmost attention served on beautiful dishes. The guests spread out nicely for breakfast so we felt social distancing during meals was observed. We had so much fun exploring this island, hiking and eating delicious food. We blocked out time for use of the hot tub that is in a very private area of the back yard and it was charming. I spent one entire day on the huge front porch reading. I felt like I had stepped back in time with such fresh air and beautiful surroundings. We loved this B&B and we want to get back as soon as possible.

We enjoyed our stay at Kangaroo House in every way. Jill and Charles are wonderful innkeepers/owners and their hospitality is beyond measure. Breakfasts were creative, plentiful, tasty and the conversations were even better. Our room was perfect for us with all the amenities one would want. We especially appreciated great wifi security with each room having its own network/password. The house is charming with beautiful antiques and lots of comfortable sofas and chairs, and extras like blankets and throws, and books galore. Everything was totally charming! The hot tub, located down a short wooded walkway was an extra bonus. Thank you Jill and Charles! We hope to return!

My wife and I have done a lot of traveling over the years, and the Kangaroo House is quite possibly the best B&B we have ever stayed in. Everything we look for in a good B&B was here - excellent serene, picturesque location close to town; large, quiet, comfortable bedroom and bathroom; gracious hosts who take the time to get to know their guests; and best of all, unbelievable gourmet breakfasts (different delicious surprises every morning). Hot coffee is available every morning at 7am for early risers, a sunny deck and beautiful gardens surround the historic building. We had a delightful time chatting with our hosts, who were very helpful with local information such as restaurants, ferries, sightseeing, etc. We highly recommend this B&B to fellow travelers!

This historic inn is an oasis of peace and utter quiet, so welcome after the noise and commotion of big city life. The innkeepers, Charles and Jill, are warm, welcoming, and unobtrusively attentive. My stay over Christmas included a snowstorm and two island wide power outages. Charles and Jill met this crisis so resourcefully and were so attentive to my comfort. The power outage, in a way, was like a trip back in time, with the soft glow of candlelight illuminating the beautifully furnished antiques filled rooms.

They spoiled me with creative, flavorful vegan breakfasts with a very welcome variety of fresh fruits. The view from the large windows in the breakfast room was an enchanting snowscape with birds coming to the feeders, including some hardy little hummingbirds. I enjoyed the conversations with my hosts when they joined me over coffee.

My suite was spotless, and I enjoyed watching my favorite BBC series on the DVD player, tucked in my warm cosy bed.

The extreme below freezing cold outside kept me indoors, where I enjoyed sipping tea and reading my book in the lovely drawing room. It was so peaceful and restful.

We spent three nights with Charles and Jill in their charming Inn and have decided we will never stay anywhere else. They are both very warm and engaging but they are also fabulous cooks. Breakfast was a 10 and something we could look forward to each morning, along with delicious coffee. We thoroughly enjoyed our well appointed, antique filled room and slept well each night. They were very informative about things to do and see on the island and we found it very helpful. We will miss our morning visits with them. We feel very grateful to have been able to stay with them just before the "isolating in place" took effect in WA state.

We unequivocally recommend Kangaroo B&B. The owners, Jill and Charles, were so warm and welcoming. The entire property was well-maintained. Our suite and the common areas were spotless. The Stellar Jay suite had beautiful décor and the bed was very comfortable. If that weren't enough, the breakfasts each morning were absolutely delicious and creative. There is plenty of room at the B&B to socially-distance and we opted to enjoy our breakfast outside on the large front porch. Also, the location is very convenient. We could easily walk or bike to town. We will definitely be back!

We had a lovely four night stay for our 30th anniversary! Having done bed and breakfasts twice a year for that many years, I can say that this is right up on the top of our list! It checks off all the boxes for us in terms of what we look for: fabulous beds, great common areas for reading and relaxing, including a game room, wood fireplace, hot tub, large covered front porch and an open back deck, a few rooms with separate sitting rooms, a guest fridge and microwave, access to coffee and tea, and few chocolates about :-). Jill and Charles are warm and gracious, perfect personalities for hosts! The B & B is close to Eastsound which has a nice selection of restaurants, gift shops, bakeries, etc. Enough to keep you busy for an afternoon. If you like the outdoors, there are great trails up on Mt. Constitution nearby. The breakfasts are tasty and creative! You will not be disappointed! If you have a spouse that is not into "having breakfast with people I don't know", there are separate tables in the dining room (even when not in covid social distancing), so they won't have an excuse to say no to this one! You will not be disappointed if you give the Kangaroo House a try!

We loved the historic character of the very clean and spacious B&B! Our room and bathroom were large and very comfortable even in the unusual hot weather. Jill and Charles were the perfect hosts and the generous three course breakfasts were outstanding! We loved sitting on their lovely, large front porch in the afternoons and having our breakfasts on the back porch overlooking the beautiful trees in the yard. We took Jill's suggestion one night to have a take out pizza there and all the utensils we needed were easily available. Perfect B&B!

Charles and Jill run their wonderful B&B with lots of warmth and hospitality. I have been coming back to this establishment, a mile from EastSound, for many years. The healthy gourmet breakfasts are scrumptious! They are always able to accommodate dietary restrictions. We are vegan, and it was no problem for them. The grounds are beautifully maintained, and they grow many of their own vegetables and fruits. The Stellar's Jay suite, with its king size bed and separate sitting room with a Murphy bed, was comfortable and cozy. I recommend Kangaroo House to all my friends!
