Detailed Reviews
The Fairhaven Village Inn is a small gem in a small gem of a village connected by a two mile walking and biking path to Bellingham proper and to other points. At first we thought we had made a mistake by being in Fairhaven, which is where the train station and Alaska ferry are, rather than in being in Bellingham. But we soon discovered we were in the prime location. Fairhaven is a small, quaint town let with good restaurants and a fantastic book store directly across from our hotel. Bellingham is not so attractive. The Old Town is rather dreary, although there are some good beer joints there. We were very happy in Fairhaven, and the hotel, though a bit dated in decor, was clean and comfortable. The staff were very helpful. Easy and free parking on site. A good pizza place—OVN—is next door and two great bakeries are close by. We especially liked the path that begins right outside the hotel and goes into Bellingham and includes a section over water. Good walking around Whatcom Lake and elsewhere. Breakfast was coffee or tea, some fruit, and pastries from somewhere. If you want a treat, go to Mount Bakery for the eggs Benedict.

Thank you for your in-depth review, Richard! Fairhaven is a special little historic hideaway of Bellingham proper. You definitely can't go wrong for beer in Bellingham though, that's for sure! Also, your message to other travelers, if you're an eggs benedict fan, Mount Bakery is a can't miss stop! We hope you have a chance to come back and perhaps find something you missed the first time around! Safe travels!

The inn was clean and pleasant, and the staff were all quite helpful and friendly. Breakfast was packaged breakfast cookies, mandarin oranges, apples, tea, coffee, and very dry, dense, lightly flavoured (chocolate or cranberry orange) bran muffins that ended up in the garbage. Those were a disappointment. Complimentary wine (1 each) was available between 4-6 each evening. There was no microwave in either the guest rooms or the common lounge by the front desk, which is puzzling in this day and age. There are trains running nearby so the horns were bothersome at times. They were blowing the warning blasts at the nearby crossing (2 long, a short, and a long), but there were times when I’d swear that 2 train engineers were just tooting “hellos” to each other.

Thank you, Roberta, for taking the time to provide your review! My apologies that our gluten-free muffins we're not to you liking. While they certainly are dense, they shouldn't be dry. I will make sure that I double check with the morning staff to make sure muffins aren't sitting out for too long. Thank you for letting us know! Apologies as well that we weren't able to know about your need to a microwave during your stay. Microwaves were removed from the rooms during the last update due to misuse, damage, and ability to keep them clean enough for our standards. We do have a limited amount of microwaves that are available upon request we are happy to wheel into rooms though. We also have a microwave behind the desk and we are always happy to "nuke" things for guests when ever the desk is open. Thank you as well for leaving your thoughts on our local train down on the waterfront. While we have very good insulation that muffles the vast majority of it, we're very excited for Bellingham to be creating "quiet zones" along the waterfront so hopefully by the end of winter, we won't have to hear them honk their way though crossings! I hope you can join us again and with all hope the train noise will be a thing of the past! Thank you again!

We stayed at the Fairhaven Village Inn during the first week of April and chose our hotel based on its close proximity to cafes, bookstores, bike/walking trails and Bellingham Bay. We couldn't have chosen a better place for my husband, myself, our grown daughter and 7 year old grandson. We booked 2 Bay view king rooms and they were spotlessly clean, well appointed, very roomy, quiet and comfortable. Each room had a fireplace and on one cold evening we played board games borrowed from the lounge in front of a fire while we watched eagles soar over the Bay from our balcony window.
A lovely surprise the first afternoon when we were offered complementary wine for happy hour.
There was organic coffee offered downstairs in the lounge all day long and every morning there was an offering of wholesome organic muffins and breakfast cookies.
Overall, I recommend the Fairhaven Village Inn to both couples and families. The Inn gave us the feel of a luxury vacation get away that was still family friendly in an amazingly beautiful environment. We are already planning our next trip, this time just me and my husband so we could explore some of the craft cocktail lounges nearby. :)

We’d take pause on staying again because of cancelation policy which we find harsh (they WILL charge you full boat if canceling ahead of 24 hrs. Their 48-hr cancelation is stated but we feel charging full-boat is absurd extreme.) Also, we experienced a staff member that doesn’t understand hospitality. She apparently didn’t like me putting on my nail polish in the library while my husband and I were relaxing by the fire (we were by ourselves in there disturbing no one). She came in and said, I smell nail polish!” Whereas my husband and I had to explain ourselves and feel like children getting punished. She said not another word, just looked at us and left, going back to the front desk. Further, You can hear people in next door room talking in a normal tone while sitting in our room. It’s a pretty hotel and convenient around the shops and restaurants but that’s about it. Sorry, we usually like boutique hotels however we feel the staff needs training on being friendlier and lighten-up the cancellation policy. The breakfast can improve as well, rather skimpy for the price of room. The complimentary wine was nice in the evening but had to face the same woman not liking me putting on nail polish. And again, I felt like she was upset with me when handing me the wine.

After driving across the country I want to place to wait and relax while waiting to travel to Alaska. The Inn was charming and cozy with a inviting and relaxed atmosphere.
The Inn’s location allowed me to walk to restaurants and shops so I could prepare for my departure on Alaskan Marine Highway. The hotel Manager let me know it was okay to check out and still feel welcome to park my car and relax around the area till I needed to depart. This simple accommodation made me feel safe and welcomed. I will definitely be staying at Fairview Inn in the future and recommend it to my family. Thank you.

We've stayed in budget motels in the area and were always disappointed and left wanting for more. We visit Fairhaven often and staying here made out trip so much better. We were in walking distance of our favorite places, and just minutes away by car to downtown Bellingham. Will be staying here much more often. Even with the train tracks right next door we slept soundly all night. The park view rooms are very nice as there were local music groups playing in the park.

Absolutely zero effort was put into getting us an early check in. I told "Ve Ve" that we had a wedding a 2pm and could we please get into the room by 1pm. 'Can't promise anything. Can't promise anything'. Did not take down our name or room number just said she would 'check' and 'can't promise anything'. We never received a call even though I know several of the rooms were vacant and several of the rooms had wedding party attendees that did had already arrived and did not request 'room service' for that date. Just a very lazy staff that does not understand 'service'. I ended up getting ready in the bathroom in the basement--no shower obviously. I would never recommend a hotel that treats their guests as if they are doing them a favor having them stay.

Thank you for leaving your review and thoughts. It is very unfortunate that you were unable to to have the experience you wanted. With a small property with only a couple different room types, and a small team to prep them each day, it's hard to guarantee early check ins. We sometimes have maintenance on rooms, or often other guests requesting late check-outs that prevent us from getting a room ready prior to our check-in time. Sadly we also don't have the ability to swap arrivals around to open rooms like a larger hotel has. And, as you say, with wedding parties, lots of folks show up wanting into their rooms. We accommodate as best we can, but it just isn't always possible. Truly, the only way to "guarantee" a room being ready early, is to have booked it the night before so it's vacant and ready to occupy. Now, I do apologize that we were not as communicative as we should have been. That is very much a failure on our part. I hope your next destination is able to provide you with the early accommodations you desire. And, if you decide to join us again, I hope that you are able to have a better experience. Thank you again for your comments and thoughts and we wish you the best of travels.

Great Hotel and very convenient location to restaurants and shops. We loved sitting on their deck in the morning having coffee and watching the harbor activity. We were taking the Alaska Marine Ferry the next day and we could walk there easily even with luggage in tow.

the rooms are gargantuan when i compare them to other hotels. the Suite was massive enough to house a party of almost 20 people, and my room (next door) basically heard nothing. the curtains are heavy enough to darken the room during the longer days of summer and there is enough light to illuminate in the darker days of winter. the breakfast is simple and the evening happy hour is pleasant. cannot recommend this place enough for fairhaven travellers

Our room, overlooking the Warf and sound was lovely. Perfect for a weekend getaway. Staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. Great bar, Galloways is part of the hotel. Good restaurants close by - We loved both Dirty Dans and Milano. Great Indian Food at Brews and Naan was worth the beautiful 3 mile walk to downtown Bellingham.

Thank you so much for your review, cfinkle! You did great walking the South Bay Trail all the way into downtown! Naan and Brew is wonderful for scratching that Indian food itch. Milano's in Fairhaven proper is a team favorite. The mushroom pasta is drool-worthy. We're glad you enjoyed our sister-business, Galloway's, too. We're very luck to share that fire door between us! Please come back and see us again soon!

Hi, AllenJones, I'm so sorry for the delayed response! It sounds like an ADA room would be ideal for your situation. Those are our only rooms with walk-in showers. All others have a shower/bathtub which doesn't sound well-suited for you at this time.
As others have mentioned, our location is central with much to do right outsides our front doors - we are steps away from unique shops and dining. Please let us know if we can answer any other questions for you. We hope to welcome you to Fairhaven soon!
Hi, Bryce G,
Excellent question. We host many guests on their way to/from Alaska and are a wonderful starting or ending point for your trip!
We are a convenient 8-minute walk from the Bellingham Cruise & Ferry Terminal which is where the Alaska Marine Highway lands. I understand that walking may not be an option for some due to luggage or mobility issues. If this is the case, please call us directly and we can arrange for a more appropriate transportation option.
We hope to see you soon!

Greetings, Jill J -
We do have coffee service trays in each of our guest rooms - we also offer coffee and tea available 24 hours a day in our library... so, there is no shortage of caffeine here! While we don't offer breakfast room service, we do have trays to bring food up to your guest room, out onto our sunny porch or into our library.
We hope to see you in Fairhaven soon!
Best wishes,
