The best thing about this campground is the staff. Very nice folks. Overall the campground is also very clean but there are a lot of nasty people that seemed to want to keep things around the pool and bathroom areas dirty. It's very busy and quite loud- in a sense of the amount of people but mostly because there is a train that comes through the campground. I don't mean near it-- I mean through it.
My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at Anvil Campground last week and have to say their staff are the friendliest and most helpful group that we have experienced in our years of camping. We havecamped all over the east coast from Montreal to Florida and found this small campground as #1. With the possible high winds expected due to the remeninents of Hurricane IAN they told me I could move to a site without trees to avoid any possible issues. They really do care for their visitors and we will be back next time we come to the Williamsburg area. Also I have to say this is a perfect campground for visiting Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown and Jamestown Sites.
We chose Anvil campground because of its proximity to William & Mary’s campus—- about 3 miles away. The site had full hookups, friendly “neighbors,” and even an on-site RV mechanic who solved what might have been a very expensive Airstream problem. The little office/store had a good selection of RV supplies; we discovered we had a missing but critical sewer hose. We will stay there again when we come for college visits.
Hello I would love to give my review we just stay for one night this pass Sunday on to Monday! Yes there is a train that come all hours of the night and they don’t sell hair ties at the store! But let me tell you my husband and I and our children love it there we stay for the first time in 2019 in a tent 🏕 but this pass weekend we stay in a cabin and love both times! I’m sorry I’m bad with name but both night and day time shift ladies that work are so friendly and nice that are what make you a great camp ground! I would go in to the over 100 times and both of them always had a smile on their faces and always so friendly and try to help! We will be coming back 💯 and will bring more friends.
We had a wonderful time at Anvil Campground! It was very clean and kept up everyday. The bathrooms were spotless and fresh. The swimming pool was clean and we enjoyed going nearly every afternoon. We will be back!! My only negative was our site being moved without notice. I have expressed my opinion, and all is good. Great place, see you soon.
We stayed for 2 nights. The owners work VERY hard to make sure you are well taken care of. I have read some of the previous reviews and there are many nit picking comments. I was really nervous. What I found was a delightful smaller campground with really nice amenities. There is a train. The train does not blow whistle. It moves very quickly. With a/c on at night we did not even hear it and we were the row in front of it. The dog park is smaller at the office but my dog got the job done and I was thankful to have it. The pool is very nice with pretty umbrellas and chairs. They have a game room and laundry facility. The bathroom was super clean. The roads in are super tight for big motorhomes but we were able to get around. If you are looking for secluded camping this would not be for you. So instead of going a neg review go elsewhere. This campground was close to Jamestown and Colonial district.…
We stayed and Anvil Campground July 6-10 with the purpose of visiting Colonial Williamsburg. We chose this campground for it's proximity to CW and the reviews it had received on numerous sites. The owners/hosts were very hospitable and called the morning of our arrival to assure us we were good to go. They also greeted us by coming out of the store and helping us with our welcome packet. Throughout the stay we found the staff to be friendly and helpful. The store has many must have items on hand and other treats as well. All hook ups worked as they should and the wifi was good. Our 8 year old enjoyed the "fun" amenities such as the pool, playground, game room, and corn hole games. There are also plenty of restful, quiet areas for the adults (swings, seating areas) and a basketball court on the other side. The staff also provide extra things like coffee and donuts on Saturdays and Sundays. They come around and deliver ice pops to the kids on certain days and free snow cones on others. Made it so much fun. On the flip side, bring your levelers because some of the sites are not level. This was not a bother for us at all. Yes, there is a train that passes by the campground at amazing speeds during the day and night. After the 2nd day, we didn't even notice it at night. The only thing that kept me from giving it a 5 star review was I found the bathrooms to be dirty and in need of some bleach in the showers. By dirty I mean the floors were consistently wet and sandy from the playground & pool in all likelihood. I would definitely stay here again though.…
Army Veterans here, used to camping. This campground has a lot of thoughtful amenities. It is a family run business and I'm not trying to hurt it. They do not advertise the noise intrusion of the train. We stayed in our tent which is stationed uncomfortably close to train tracks separated by a flimsy wire fence. The train ran every 2 hours at night. Every two hours my kids woke up, as did we. The ground literally shook. My noise canceling ear buds and sound machine app were no match for this. It felt like we had a newborn. By the morning, both families felt exhausted, which impacted our ability to enjoy our plans to explore the theme park and Williamsburg. Of course we made the best of it. Bottom line up front, we won't recommend and we will not return.
Great place, we had a Cabin and we had our dog with us. Everye was very nice and its a cute place if your in the area to visit Williamsburg! Our Cabin was very clean and surprisingly big. Great kitchen and bathroom. The pool was nice and the campground had a nice family atmosphere to it. We would definitely stay here again if in the area.
We have stayed at many campgrounds, and the personal touches this campground does makes all the difference. They gave us a courtesy call before we arrived. They accommodated us by making sure our large tent would be able to fit on the site ( someone went out and measured to make sure) wow. We were worried we wouldn’t make it to the campsite before they closed the office, so we called and asked if they could bring wood to our campsite, and they did. Our kids loved the free amenities in February!! This is rare since most sites do so little in the winter months. They enjoyed the arcade room, and the park! This campground may be small but it’s big in heart!! We enjoyed our time very much!
