I’m happy to report that the Woodlands The Woodlands hotel at Colonial Williamsburg has reopened. Convenient place to catch the shuttle to the historic area. Well worth the stay. While the continental breakfast offered in the morning is not quite the pre-Covid style, it is still good with a variety of cereals and premade warm breakfast sandwiches, fruit cups and bagels milk and juices.
We took a quick trip to Williams with bikes to ride local trails and visit Williamsburg. The Woodlands is in a perfect location with easy access to the Colonial Parkway as well as being within walking distance to the historic area. The hotel is clean, staff is friendly, and rooms are comfortable.
I have been visiting Williamsburg since 1954. The first time as a high school graduate and then when I married. It became our favorite place to visit. Each visit was equally pleasant. We saw the Woodlands being built and each stay was just as equally pleasant. They remember if you had stayed there before and I have stayed in the same room more than once. It makes one feel special. My next stay will certain Lu be The Woodlands. It’s the best!
The location is perfect, it’s a nice quite area, but right by the visitors center so you can walk or take the shuttle to Colonial Williamsburg. Jennifer at the front desk was super helpful, and recommended an excellent place for dinner!
Staff is super friendly and professional. Many facilities in the property: well kept and clean. Included breakfast is a plus, with many items to choose from. Out favorite thing was the closeness to the CW Visitor Center.
Very clean and well priced stay. Convenient to William & Mary campus. Complimentary breakfast was very good and convenient. Staff is very friendly. The grounds of the hotel are attractive and calming.
First the pluses: The hotel was well maintained and the all the staff we met were pleasant and helpful. It is close to several restaurants, but at this time, none are within walking distance (many of them are still closed because of Covid). Breakfast was good - all the usual items plus a different hot egg sandwich every day and fresh fruit. Parking is close to the building. Now for the minuses: We asked to change to a room with a bathtub with grab bars. They had no problem changing the room, but all the handicapped rooms are about as far away from the lobby as you can get. We ended up having to walk down 2 long hallways to get to our room at the far end of the building. If someone using a walker or a cane had to walk that far, it would be very taxing on them. Plus there was only one elevator to get to the 2nd floor where our room was located. The room itself was comfortable, but had very few outlets. My husband had to crawl under the desk to reach the outlet to plug in our computer and we had to use our own adapter to have enough outlets to also plug in our mobile printer. The bathroom was large. The bathtub was a normal bathtub and only handicapped features were grab bars in the tub and a handheld shower. The toilet was low for a handicapped room.…
I've probably visited Colonial Williamsburg a dozen times over the years and have stayed at the Williamsburg Woodlands most of those times. It is the most moderately priced of the on-site hotels, has less glamour than the the Lodge or Inn, is not right in the center of the restored area, but it is perfectly fine and has the colonial ambience, so you still feel part of the experience. Breakfast and parking are included, staff is friendly and accommodating, visitor's center and shuttle buses are on site, although you can walk to the restored colonial city easily as the Woodlands is located on the edge. For families, this is the place with an outdoor pool, miniature golf, play area, and some other kid-friendly amenities. However, it's fine for those without children too. My children are grown and I still enjoy staying here. There is a family-friendly restaurant adjoining the hotel and a snack bar in the visitor's center a short 2-minute walk away. The Lodge and Inn are more luxurious, and I've stayed in them too, but you definitely get more value for your money while still feeling part of the experience, and Colonial Williamsburg is an experience.…
This is the Economy option for staying on-property at Colonial Williamsburg, and compared to other "economy" hotels I have experienced, it was very nice. The rooms were QUIET, clean, and the suite had a door to close off the bedroom, which allows for privacy when traveling with children. The kitchenette offered a second sink to the room and there was a lot of storage in that area (built in bookshelves and cabinets.) There was also a lot of space for suitcases and several pieces of furniture that allow you to easily keep your suitcase off the floor. The common area offered a lot of seating both indoors and outside. We were able to have carryout there one evening with our group of 7. Beverages, snacks, and basic toiletries are available for purchase in their pantry, including official Colonial Williamsburg sodas (Ginger Ale and Root Beer.) The continental breakfast was just OK. Fruit consisted of apples and bananas. The hot food each morning was a breakfast sandwich of some sort that was usually pretty dried out. There were cereals, yogurt, toast, bagels, and the like. All in all, it was fine for a meal included in the cost of our overnight stay. Unfortunately, the on-site restaurant "Huzzah's Eatery" was closed due to the worker shortage. The staff of the hotel was friendly and very helpful. They allowed us to check in early and would have stored our luggage had they not been able to do that. Unfortunately their information about Colonial Williamsburg wasn't always current. No problem though, as you are literally feet away from the Colonial Williamsburg Visitor's Center! (Get there early for carriage ride tickets. And since a line forms around 8:40am and they open at 9 am, it was really nice to be just feet away from it.) The hotel is also convenient for hopping on the shuttle bus to get to and from Colonial Williamsburg. Or, you can just walk to Colonial Williamsburg, if you would enjoy a half mile walk to the site. The other amenities were OK. We did not use the pool or splash pad, as the heater was broken during our stay. (But that actually allowed us to use the pool at the Colonial Williamsburg Spa, which was REALLY nice.) The mini-golf area was free and fun. Has it aged a bit? Yes. Would it be great if the lighting was improved (i.e. replace burnt out light bulbs and do so with brighter lights.) Also, yes. But, hey, it's free and it's convenient, and it's mini-golf. It was a lovely evening activity for my kids. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay here. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.…
Website is not updated. A bit run down compared to the pictures. There is no shuttle to Bush Gardens event though the website says there is. The restaurant is closed. The golf course has debris from the trees all over it and is not cleaned and the lights are very dim making evening play difficult.
