The lobby is beautiful and deceptive. Check in was quick and pleasant. Then you go through the hall to the guest rooms and it's downhill from there. The halls are dirty and dated. Our guest room was disgusting. Holes in the walls, broken showerhead, filthy and MOIST carpet, dust falling from air vents and old spring mattresses thank are sunk in. All the electronics were plugged into a single power strip that was plugged into an extension cord, plugged into a surge protector. The whole place is sketchy. We cancelled our reservation, got our money back and promptly left. It's what hotel nightmares are made of.

Here is what happened! I checked in on the 4th and me and my daughter went immediately to Colonial Williamsburg and we got set for the fireworks! Well it got canceled because of rain! We didn’t get back until almost 11pm and noticed that the TV remote was missing! I had to get up around 2-3 for a surprise day of work! Well I called the hotel around 7am on the 5th and complained about the remote control! I got back to the hotel at 8:30pm after work and me and my daughter went to dinner and came back! I went to sleep and when I woke up my back was in terrific pain from the sagging mattress! After I read the reviews that is a common thing with this hotel is sagging mattresses and non-fitted sheets! I went down at 7am and talked to the front desk and complained about everything again and I got a story of to come back at 9 and the manager would be there! Well I did that and had another story of the manager being there now at 11 am! They agreed to compensate me $30 off the bill, I was like “no”! I now have to see my doctor and will miss work! I promised my daughter a day at Busch Gardens! My back was in so much pain I kept popping it and it just did no good! I kept getting alerts from my debit card that the hotel was trying to charge me a full amount for my stay (not even the $30 reduced amount)! Well right before I got a phone call from the hotel they tried up to 5 times for the full amount and it kept getting denied! Well on the phone call with the hotel they said that they had compted me for a day and I asked them if they compted me for a day then why do you keep trying for the full amount? They said that’s how it is supposed to go! I was so pissed! They didn’t care about my back and medical situation! They eventually tried to hit my debit card for the reduced amount! Look at reviews for this hotel! Everything is nice on the pools and stuff but the rooms are hit and miss! Hey Fort Magruder, spend some money on mattresses and fitted sheets! Give a crap about customers medical conditions when you call them up and don’t just worry about a hotel bill! My back is still in so much pain from me staying on a mattress that sagged so bad but I didn’t notice it until I could hardly move the next day! Also don’t plan on a free breakfast anymore! I filed a complaint with the BBB and will see my doctor this week!

Rooms need to be updated bathroom to small! Anyone with any size you have to straddle the toilet to shut the door. Worst of all at check In i informed associate that I would like to pay cash for my pet fee( which by the way was quoted on THEIR website and Groupon 3 nights for 50$ then 25$ each additional night. They tried to charge me 25$ each night) I was told I could pay cash for pet fee at check out. First night 25$ pet fee charge was put on my card. I informed front Manager Ashley she said it was an “authorization “ and it would fall off of my account and nothing else would be charged to my card. Next night another 50$ charge to my card. They stated again it was only an authorization. I could pay it at checkout and the charges would fall off of my card. Nope! At check out they were still there. And they wanted me to pay the pet fees in cash I refused to pay anything as long as those charges are there. They were tying up my money! They compt the pet fee but guess what charges are still pending on my account. If by Tuesday which is one week from last charge if they are still there I will be calling the BBB! Buyer be ware!

My little family and I stayed here for the 4th of July and very much enjoyed our stay. The best part of the hotel was its staff. All were very accommodating and nice. It is nice when you can have a conversation with not only the front desk, but also the cleaning crews. All were very nice and they should be commended. We got a Groupon deal and our room was small, but clean and no issues to speak of. The hotel is very close to Williamsburg and not far away is Jamestown, Yorktown and Busch Gardens. For the history buff, the hotel includes a Civil War Redoubt preserved in the garden and artifacts are in the lobby. It has cannons out front of the hotel and historic signs. Down the road is Redoubt Park where you can visit two more redoubts and Civl War Trail signage. The hotel sits on the road where Union and Confederate troops marched during the 1862 Peninsula Campaign and the Battle of Williamsburg. The lobby is huge and would be great for a business conference etc. The indoor and outdoor pools are clean and we enjoyed these during our stay. My seven year old loved the pool and wanted me to add the statement. The rooms were quiet and we felt safe all during our stay. We would stay there again.

I’m not sure why people write a one star review. They are rarely fair, and are usually related to how bad the person is feeling in general. We have a room on the third floor. Room smelled fine. Light was fine. It had a sliding door to the balcony like the others. So open the curtains and boom, light. Since they are redecorating the rooms later this year or next they aren’t going to be fixing things like closet sliding doors, and cracks along the walls- cosmetic fixes. The one thing to give you a heads up is their coffee machine is one of those cups at a time, so you’re getting a bad cup of jo. Luckily they have the coffee shop in the lobby. Also their WiFi stinks. Don’t expect to get it in the room. The beds are older and sag in the middle, but aren’t terrible. And I’m gonna ask the maid for a different pillow, as mine is hard. Ah well, the price is amazing, so I didn’t expect luxury. Also, who complains about not having a fitted sheet?! No hotel in Europe has one. And not every hotel in America has them either.

Only being here for 2 weeks now, I know well we are in very great need of our face lift - new beds and WiFi are indeed coming. The challenge with not having fitted sheets here is exactly the older the beds you note. Without the pillow top modern bed, the sheets slide all over the place. In my 20+ years of running hotels, this is the first time I have had challenges with the sheets like this.
