My husband and I stayed for 1 night, and we both vowed to return with the children. The rooms are big an clean. The lobby is spacious and the food is good. The location is also good. Its not Downtown Williamsburg, but still close enough to be a 10-15 min drive to where ever you want to go in the Williamsburg area. Also, the free parking is a plus.

We travel to Williamsburg once a year and typically stay at the Homewood Suites or Embassy Suites closer to Colonial Williamsburg because we like having more space, but for a one night stay while in town to visit Busch Gardens Christmastown, we decided to try the Doubletree. You can’t beat the location if you want to be near Busch Gardens - it’s a very short drive.

I didn’t realize the hotel was under renovation until I checked in. The restaurant was closed and I was informed that breakfast would be in the Starbucks. More on that in a bit...

The hotel definitely needs to be updated. The halls are dingy, the rooms are tired. It was perfectly serviceable for a one night stay and we basically just slept In the room but I wouldn’t want to spend a lot of time there.

For breakfast the next morning, we headed down to the Starbucks and noticed a crowd waiting. I went to the hostess and was told it would be “at least 20 mins, probably longer.” But there were empty tables! They clearly didn’t have enough staff. The breakfast was a mess - I felt bad for the staff they did have because they were clearly overwhelmed. Not awful for the free breakfast if you have Gold status but I’d be annoyed if I paid for it. Honestly we would have gone elsewhere but we had a hungry preschooler and a baby so it was easier to just wait.

Overall it was ok. Not the worst but unless you are going to Busch Gardens there are definitely better Hilton’s in Williamsburg. I’d consider trying it again when renovations are complete..

This Doubletree is an aging hotel that will likely be in need of updates in terms of renovations and services offered as travel again begins to increase, although it still has plenty of upside.

The room: standard American hotel room. Beds were comfortable enough, but note they are doubles not queens (at least the ones we got in our room), so a little on the smaller side. The balcony looking forever the pool is a large, usable respite as well. The air conditioning can be set very low so temperature control is not an issue. Shower had great water pressure and heat control. With all that said, we did have one large bug, and the chair we had in our room was noticeably stained. We also never had our room serviced; we also had not been told at check in they had reduced cleaning services. Wifi was spotty and unreliable. At times, it was impossible to connect.

There are three elevators: two in the main lobby and a third at the end of their long corridor. While initially helpful, that third elevator became increasingly slow and unreliable - at times feeling like it was getting stuck between the 5th and 6th floors. On the bottom floor, it would occasionally flash “Out of Service,” on the indicator, which was our cue to stop relying on that elevator.

Some bookings and Hilton Honors members will get a $12 credit to their breakfast, which, conveniently for Hilton, is priced at $14.95 pre tax. The breakfast was atrocious for that price. It was, by all means, a low quality continental breakfast offered for free by many other other hotel chains even within the Hilton family of brands. Scrambled eggs were soggy and lukewarm. Bacon was cold. Oatmeal was served artistically on a frozen glass with a dab of fruit on top to make it look like a parfait - but I’ve yet to meet someone who wants cold, gluey, oatmeal. The fruit was canned fruit salad with cottage cheese but no yogurt. The pastries were straight out of a box. And… that’s it for $14.95+tax and tip per adult. Just avoid it. Use the credit at their little coffee shop.

The pool is large and beautiful and the same pool connects both indoors and outdoors. The pool area is large and will accommodate many people for a resort like atmosphere.

The location is ideal for those wanting to visit both or either Busch Gardens and Colonial Williamsburg.

Overall, I’d come back, but would want cleaner furniture and daily cleaning service completed - or at least be notified in advance of its absence. While the Doubletree cookies are always a nice touch, they just can’t make up for their terrible breakfast or lack of cleaning service.

There are few positives about this DoubleTree location. Our family stayed here during a visit to the area. We were here for a total of five nights. When we first arrived, the surrounding area and the hotel looked very nice. The location is actually good. It is very close to Busch Gardens and relatively close to Colonial Williamsburg, maybe an eight minute drive. We checked in on a Wednesday and the parking lot was almost empty. When we checked in the staff was very friendly. There were tables set up with individually wrapped cookies, hot cocoa, and hot apple cider for guests. We were on the second floor. The hallways were very nice and clean. It was obvious that they took good care of the lobby areas and the other public areas. The doors on the rooms have a key card and the readers did not work very well. After several swipes, we finally got into the room. The room was in pretty bad shape. I have attached several pictures. There were patches falling off of the ceiling, stains all over the carpets, mold and mildew in the bathroom, as well as several other issues. The rooms needed quite a bit of work. We explored downstairs and there is a bar area that had maybe one person in it. We tried the hot cocoa and the apple cider and it was awful. The cookies did not only disappoint, but they were the single worst cookies I have ever tried in my entire life. I cannot express in words how horrific it was. Over the next two days the hotel filled rapidly and by Friday night the place was packed. It was clear that this was a hotel for cheap family stays where dozens of unruly children would dominate the halls. At all hours of the night the kids would run up and down the halls screaming. There were doors slamming and feet stomping. We didn’t get much sleep. If you are looking for a cheap, raunchy room that is close to the amusement park, then this would be perfect. I probably wouldn’t stay here in the future because of the poor room quality and the lack of sleep due to the continuous noise.

The room and bed were quite comfortable had we not been awakened twice by a fire alarm that, according to the staff, has been repeatedly going off for no reason, and the engineers can’t figure out what the problem is, so can’t correct it. While the staff kindly compensated us for needing to evacuate twice, I would have preferred sleeping!
No laundry detergent to be had from the front desk, it was on order, but hadn’t shown up on the 2 days we asked about it so we had to go out and buy a bottle at a grocery store. Put some in the first machine and then it wouldn’t work. Second machine took some coaxing to select the wash cycle.
There were cigarette filters on our balcony and a faint smell of smoke in the room, even though it’s a non smoking property.
I understand during covid the meal service was cut back, but for 3 mornings the only breakfast choice was a $12.99 ‘buffet’ in a snack bar area that consisted of scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage, and roasted potoatos. Needless to say, we went out elsewhere.
On the plus side, the front desk staff were very personable.
When we weren’t being force outside by the ear splitting alarm system, the hotel was ok, but until they get the system fixed, avoid it. More than one employee told us it was an ongoing problem with no solution in sight.

I paid for a nonrefundable reservation for a king single and was offered an upgrade to a king suite. Long story short my upgrade denied was denied and so was my original reservation to a king single. They were fully booked so no kings available. I complained and was given what I thought was a king single but it turned out to be a queen double. I complained again, the manager finally called me back and “found” a king single for me. It was not a nice room. Stained peeling wallpaper, broken lights, broken shower valve so half the water came out of the shower head and the rest out of the tub faucet. Mold on the tile grout, dying thermostat battery so it cut out frequently and took several taps to wake up. And what looks suspiciously like a semen stain on the side if the night stand.

The stay was okay. The shower ran out of hot water.

There wasn’t enough wash clothes in the bathroom and I called down to ask for me twice and they never came. My reservation consisted of 2 hotel rooms w/2 adults in each room.

The paint on the ceiling was peeling not sure if the room was under renovation or not. Also, the wall mirror was hanging off of the wall when we entered the room.

Hotel guest in the room next to ours were up all night long. Loud and playing music loud. I don’t think they went to bad until after 2 am.. their noise kept me up.

During my reservation process I was transferred to another department that made me aware of my ability to earn 500 additional HH’s points. As the call continued the representative began to offer me different packages for Hilton Resorts in varying states etc. We settled in on a Las Vegas, after the lady provided me with the info I thanked her for the amazingly cost effective offer but I didn’t want to commit to it financially at this time. The rep continued to elude to my decline being based upon financial cost.. of which I became extremely offended. Seeing as I just booked 2 hotel rooms that totaled to almost $500 including incidentals my hesitation had nothing to do with cost. I shared With her 3 times my nervousness was because of my health condition and my stay in Williamsburg would be the first time I’ve traveled any where since Dec of 2019. I also told her the severity of my health condition and how my immune system came become easily comprised depending on the environment. While I do not live in a bubble and I’m fully vaccinated, that was extremely offensive. In my first attempt to go into the “real world” again and staying in an hotel with some of my close friends, for one night, I did not expect to be bullied and offended because I didn’t want to commit to another trip.. and a trip out of the state at that. I wanted To see how my first time sleeping and living in a space other than my home would go first. Who knew that would be caused me to be viewed as being “cheap”.

This beautiful, spotless hotel has spacious rooms and an exceptionally friendly staff. Rooms are very well appointed with fridges, coffee makers and hair dryers. There is also a restaurant on site. You cannot beat the location, as it is right around the corner from Busch Gardens and across the street from numerous restaurants. We won't stay anywhere else when visiting Williamsburg.

Room was outdated, in need of repair and was dirty. The peeling paint, holes and scuffs gave it a feel of a dorm room after years of abuse. Bed seemed clean, but I would not even sit on the couch. Sliding door track was so full of crud and rust that it would not open or close without lifting it off the track and could not be locked. Wifi access was near dysfunctional and popped up ‘not trusted’ security certificate. No room service option, or, at least no materials in room regarding it.

Pool was not clean - debris and questionable water quality. Trash was piled on top of and beside overflowing cans and was not touched by staff our entire stay. No one tending pool or skimming/treating water.

Nearly $20 per person for a marginal breakfast buffet. $25 ‘resort fee’ for some unstated purpose (and trust me…this place is no resort). $10 just to park in their lot…not valet, not a garage, just to park your car. That on top of over $300 a night for a dump of a room. I don’t mind paying, but ‘decent place’ rates should result in a decent place experience and this place falls short on many fronts.

It’s a shame because the property has potential - good location and the overall site could be appealing if they had administration that looked at things through the eyes of the guests once in a while.

House keeping and other staff are not wearing masks or gloves. Night staff is rude and have no idea about hospitality. Will not be coming back there are better options in the area. Carpets are disgusting, the smell of weed in the hallways every single night of my stay here.

I’m not sure of the brand but they were amazing. The water pressure was great. After we spent the day at Busch gardens the shower definitely helped with the soreness from walking all day.
