We stayed at Barclay Cottage B&B from August 6 to 12, 2022. We felt at home right away. This B&B is an oasis, quiet and very relaxing! The Delmar room had its own attached bathroom. It was a five minute walk to the beach and other local restaurants. They also had bicycles, chairs and towels for the beach.
Sharon and Rich are two of the nicest and most accommodating hosts we've ever met! Delicious 5 stars breakfasts were served at 9:00 every morning. If we plan to return to Virginia Beach at some point in the future, we will enjoy another stay at Barclay Cottage. Thanks again for the great hospitality!

Wow! We had an incredible stay for our mini honeymoon. We purchased the deluxe celebration package which included champagne and a cheese tray in our room upon arrival. We also received massages and a gift card towards our reservation at Zoe’s. We were so happy we did! The massages were great and the steak at Zoe’s was one of the best we have ever had. Breakfast was delicious every morning. We even tried some of the recipes for ourselves the morning we got home. Rich wins! We will definitely be back. The location was close to the beach while not right on the boardwalk with the noise at night. We loved being able to use their beach chairs and bikes and all of the local food recommendations. Thank you again for a wonderful stay. 5 ⭐️

If you’re looking for something between a Cape Cod boarding house, and a Mackinac Island Victorian B&B, you should definitely book a room at the Barclay Cottage Bed and Breakfast. From the time my husband and I walked through the door, we were totally at home. The Innkeepers (who were super accommodating when we called to say we were running late) Rich and Sharon have made this wonderful place a welcoming and restful little oasis, just a few blocks off the beach. The rooms were clean and comfortable and thoughtfully decorated with beachy art. The beds have what might possibly be the softest sheets known to man. There are sound machines in the rooms, with waves that slacken any stress you might have gained while traveling. There wasn’t anything they hadn’t thought of, from coffee in the hall, perfect rocking chairs on their expansive porches (and the porches are accessible to both floors!), to a pantry full of everything from cold water to cork screws. There are bikes and beach chairs to borrow, books to read, people to chat with (if you so choose) and areas all around the property to sit with coffee or wine for a card game or conversation. The breakfast they hand make on site was DELICIOUS! My husband (who lived in the Virginia Beach area for a decade) never relaxes in a day or two, and within hours, had fell in love with the quiet and relaxing front porch. We stayed on the first floor in Cape Henry (the rooms are all named) and loved the fact that we had porch access right outside our door. In short, we frequent the Virginia Beach area, and either grab a house in Sandbridge (so we can fit all the friends and family) or snag a hotel room for just us. We are SO, SO glad that this beautiful little gem popped up and we gave it a whirl. We plan on so many more weekend trips now, with this little secret in our back pocket. If you’re looking for a serene and private bubble that is close to everything at the beach, look NO further. Thank you so much for such a wonderful time!!!

Short walk to the ocean from a quiet neighborhood. Rich and Sharon are very accommodating, and are happy to share their knowledge about things to do, where to eat, the history of the area. Breakfast is outstanding, and unique every day - watch your diets. Rooms are a little small but very well arranged and comfortable, and there is lounging room on the porches and in the living room.

This is my favorite place I have ever stayed. Rich and Sharon absolutely thought of everything to make my stay comfortable and relaxing which is exactly what I was looking for. I had the best nights’ sleep in my comfortable bed in my beautiful room with the sound machine playing nature sounds. I started my day with the most delicious freshly prepared breakfasts from Rich. It was absolutely a dream to be able to have the most relaxing massage ever in the same house in the room right beside the room I was staying in! I loved being able to grab bottled water before I went on the short safe two block walk to the beach or exploring the nearby Vibe district and I really appreciated being able to borrow bicycles to ride on the boardwalk nearby. I was greeted warmly by Sharon when I arrived and it was nice to be able to park right there and to utilize the beautiful screened in porch to read and relax, kept warm by the cozy blankets Rich and Sharon left in my room for me. By the time you go home you’ll feel like you have stayed with friends. I hesitate to tell all of you how much I loved Sharon and Rich (and Fiona!) and this place because I want to come back soon and I don’t want it to be booked ☺️.

My husband and I have never been to Virginia Beach. We chose Barclay Cottage based on the reviews, amenities, and our conversation with Sharon, the innkeeper, who was very pleasant and helpful. Sharon and Rich are terrific! The accommodations were clean and comfortable. Rich is an amazing cook, and we were totally impressed with the gourmet breakfasts served each day. They also provided some nice amenities, like bottled water, beach chairs, umbrellas, bicycles and helmets. A perfect getaway...we will be back!!

I wish I could give this a 10 star review. This is a cute lovely B & B. The owners go above and beyond to get you what you need. Walking distance to beach. They have bikes and beach chairs you can use. The rooms are lovely. We were upstairs and sat on the porch. The breakfast was lemon pancakes. So delicious and we went kayaking early one morning and the owner had a breakfast bag all made up for us. You can walk to restaurants and stores. Would definitely stay here over any hotel. Just a great location. You won’t be disappointed. We will be back

We’re fairly jaded travelers and it takes something special to impress us. Well, we were pleasantly surprised by the warm and inviting hosts at Barclay Cottage and the genuinely relaxing atmosphere. Sharon and Rich have added the small details that make a B&B stay unique and that set it apart from an impersonal hotel. Tastefully decorated rooms, a comfortable bed, clean linens, thoughtful amenities, and little touches that clearly show the experience of the proprietors. Breakfast was a real treat and something you should not miss!
This was an off-season trip, unfortunately, so the beach was quiet and we could only spend a short time on the balcony. We would definitely like to return in the spring to see the gardens in bloom and enjoy the ocean breeze. Highly recommended for a romantic getaway or relaxing stay near the beach during whale watching season. Although I’m sure the area is loud and bustling in the summer, Barclay Cottage is an oasis that you look forward to returning to and hate to leave.
Needless to say, this was a fantastic B&B experience thanks in no small part to the care and kindness of our hosts. Rich and Sharon really make you feel welcomed and like family, genuine and lovely people who are also excellent innkeepers. Highly, highly recommended!

My husband surprised me for an early anniversary and booked a few nights stay at this B&B. We have stayed in a few B&Bs over the years, and by far, this was the best one! When we arrived Rich took us into the small sitting room and explained everything to us. He detailed all the local restaurants, the local attractions, and toured us around the end. Everything was clearly marked so that we were able to easily use it. We felt at home right away. We stayed in the Delmar room which had its own attached bathroom. The porches were amazing to sit on and just enjoy the breeze and the view. Any five star hotel would want the breakfast that we had. It was a five minute walk to the beach and other local restaurants. They also had bicycles, chairs and towels for the beach, and even umbrellas if it rained. Rich and Sharon are probably some of the most generous and kind innkeepers we have ever met. If we ever make it back to Virginia Beach, we will definitely stay here. If you are considering to stay at this B&B or a hotel, I would definitely encourage you to stay here.

There are so many places to explore that my husband & I rarely go to the same place twice when we travel. We stayed at Barclay Cottage B&B for 3 nights in April & it was so wonderful that we came back for 2 more nights in October.
The historic old house is gorgeous & tastefully decorated. We love the wrap around porches. The beds & bedding are extremely comfortable & everything is very clean.
The location is excellent, just a couple of blocks from the boardwalk, but quiet & peaceful.
Rich & Sharon are incredible hosts. They are so warm & welcoming.
The gourmet breakfasts Rich makes are not only visually appealing but they are SCRUMPTIOUS too!
I have never liked quiche until I tried Rich’s. It was one of the best breakfasts I have ever had!

We noticed no fragrefragrences in our last visit over thanksgiving. Just give Sharin or Rich a call. They are great folks and will give you a straight answer.
The Delmar and the Cape Henry on the first floor both have jets in the tubs. The other rooms do not. I hope this helps.
The inn is two blocks from the boardwalk, the beach, and many shops and restaurants.
