This was a fantastic trip! Rich and Sharon made our anniversary weekend a huge success! This is a historic home that we were comfortable in for 4 days. The breakfasts blew me away! Rich is a very creative chef and made some delectable two course meals that I devoured every bit of. We also opted for massages, which worked out so conveniently to go just down the hall and back for the appointment. I would highly recommend this place if you love genuine people, great food, and a comfortable place near the beach!

I wish I could give this a 10 star review. This is a cute lovely B & B. The owners go above and beyond to get you what you need. Walking distance to beach. They have bikes and beach chairs you can use. The rooms are lovely. We were upstairs and sat on the porch. The breakfast was lemon pancakes. So delicious and we went kayaking early one morning and the owner had a breakfast bag all made up for us. You can walk to restaurants and stores. Would definitely stay here over any hotel. Just a great location. You won’t be disappointed. We will be back

My friend and I stayed at Barclay B&B for a long weekend in an effort to salvage our senior beach week from Covid19. We arrived 3 hours too early to check in and knocked on the door to ask if it was okay to park in their lot. Sharon answered the door and said it was perfectly fine with a big smile. She told us that she couldn't wait to see us at check-in and asked if we needed anything else before we went to the beach. When we checked in, Rich gave us a full tour of the facilities including where we could use the fridge, get free water, access bikes and other beach equipment, and more. There were several sanitization stations throughout the house, which contributed to prevention of covid19. Our room was adorable- the Wyndhaven had a TV, Sound machine, 3 high quality lamps, a chair, and several soft blankets in the closet. The next morning we had a delicious breakfast of assorted fruit, ricotta cheese lemon zest pancakes, and sausage. They personally greeted us each morning and chatted with us once we had our delicious food. The other breakfasts included grilled pineapple with cinnamon, bacon quiche, homestyle potatoes, blueberry peach french toast, and more assorted fruit. It was a great portion and they offered more upon seeing our plates cleaned. There were also bikes that were absolutely wonderful to use. Rich personally showed us the best ones and apologized that they were not all in working condition, but there were plenty that did work. Although everything was within walking distance, we chose to bike almost everywhere on the complimentary bikes. During the day when we went to the beach, we brought their complimentary umbrellas. I often get sun poisoning but this wasn't an issue because of their umbrellas. Overall, this was the absolute best experience that I've had away from home. Rather than people who own a business, it feels like staying at a family member's house. They were always willing to sit down and engage in a chat. They also always made sure we had everything we needed and took amazing precautions given the current situation. I loved staying here and Rich and Sharon were what really brought the experience together. HIGHLY recommend.

My husband and I have never been to Virginia Beach. We chose Barclay Cottage based on the reviews, amenities, and our conversation with Sharon, the innkeeper, who was very pleasant and helpful. Sharon and Rich are terrific! The accommodations were clean and comfortable. Rich is an amazing cook, and we were totally impressed with the gourmet breakfasts served each day. They also provided some nice amenities, like bottled water, beach chairs, umbrellas, bicycles and helmets. A perfect getaway...we will be back!!

We have stayed here many times in the last 10 years. I love the new Coastal decor. The delcious breakfasts are extraordinary and filling as always. Our favorite thing is to read on the front porch enjoying the breeze and garden. The gardens are very beautiful also. Loved all the blooming hydrandgea!
