This hotel could easily be a five star except for its disastrous housekeeping. They failed to replace the dirty cups and towels. They didn’t even bother folding the clothes. They never replenished shampoo, shower cup, etc. I called downstairs and asked for replenishment and they never came. The third day they failed to make the room all together. Also, the skirt of the bed as well as the curtain were stained. The closets were stained as well and the drawers had hair from the prior guests. They did not have a menu with prices for the minibar. Nor did they have instructions on how to use the coffee machine. With that said, the restaurant at the hotel is nice, food delicious and very good service. The rooms and hotel are very nice too. The bathroom was huge and with big windows. The cavalier has to do a better job with cleanliness!

This is our fifth visit to The Cavalier. As always it was so enjoyable and relaxing. From the moment we arrived everyone was gracious and friendly. Shout out to bellmen David and Christian. They were so helpful and friendly. We totally enjoyed the Beach Club.Shuttle back and forth is so easy. Out there every day. Weather was great. The staff at pool and Beach bar restaurant were great. Ate lunch at pool every day. I have never had to add a negative review, but I feel I must. Housekeeping was questionable. The first day was exemplary. We got back from the pool and room was cleaned beds made up and towels refreshed. The second day we got back from pool and we were short on towels. Called front desk and they put request in . Had to wait 45 minutes for towels. The next day we returned from pool and we had no towels replaced,no toilet paper replaced and beds not made up properly. Again called front desk to have issue resolved. I truly believe we had different person for housekeeping than the first day. We will definitely come back to Cavalier. Hope this problem can be resolved.

This historical iconic Cavalier Beach Hotel is bar none not only welcoming and delightful but the service is absolutely impeccable. The Individuals who welcome you like Blair Chase, Molly Chamberlain, Rebecca Breneman and Mike Caterbone allow you to feel very special and honored. We have had the pleasure to meet over the years Nick Nations and Dreke Holton from when this amazing historical hotel first opened a number of years ago and what consistency we have seen throughout these last five years with the gorgeous grounds, the amazing service and care for each hotel guest. We also had the opportunity to engage with the valet service and Noah was absolutely exceptional in his service to my husband and I. We just wish we could come back more often than we do to enjoy the services, the excellence and the care by what you offer to each and every guest. A special shout out to Andres our waiter on September 8th who was excellent in the Raleigh room having us as his customers and allowed us continue to order and order and order some of the delicious shared plates and dinner items to enjoy with the lovely piano music was perfect.

The Cavalier’s renovation is modern, with a touch history showing through. It really is so beautiful. The front lawn is relaxing, such a comfortable place to take in the view. There are so many wonderful places to hang out. The porches are delightful, with soft seating and soft low level lighting. There are two lively bars, one inside and one out. A fire pit is just steps away from the outdoor bar. The pool is a dream. I loved every minute spent here.

If you are well-traveled and looking for a five star luxury beach experience in terms of service, amenities, etc. you might be disappointed. The hotel decor and theme celebrates it’s storied past as a destination for southern gentry, powerful men and movie stars. Lots of photos and paintings of antebellum women in various states of repose. Many of staff members seem exhausted, indifferent and slightly condescending. The exception is the valet and bell staff. They were great and very welcoming. The rooms are much smaller than pictured. A “suite” does not actually include two separate living spaces. Our “suite” was just a medium sized bedroom with a small couch in front of the bed. The hotel’s beach club requires a five minute walk across a busy main road that runs through town or a ride on a golf cart. The beach club includes a pool, outdoor restaurant and access to a reserved area on the beach. Beach chairs and umbrellas are not included in the price. We waited about 10-15 minutes to be seated at the beach club restaurant. No hostess in sight. Once seated, the food included nachos, canned chicken salad, soggy fries, watered down drinks and a wait staff of mostly teens and college students who seemed exhausted and generally disengaged. Not my definition of luxury. The pool is smallish and busy (lots of kids and families). The other amenities of the property include a small garden with picnic tables and an outdoor area for drinks in the evening. The food and atmosphere at the Hunter lodge was the best, but it was impossible to get reservations both at the hotel restaurants and at local restaurants. The front desk staff didn’t seem to have relationships with the local restaurants (everything was booked, maybe try tomorrow?). We cut our stay short. This is was not the type of luxury experience we expected and the “old world” vibe may not work for well-traveled, cosmopolitan professionals looking for a beach getaway. The Salamander Resort pulls this aesthetic off in a way that is much less off-putting and more inclusive. My recommendation for Va. Beach: rent a beach home or stay at the Marriott on the beach. At least you’ll have a view of the beach and a balcony.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent visit. First and foremost, my sincerest apologies for your experience. Your description of our Food and Beverage offerings as well as the Associates is certainly not what you should expect from our property. Our goal is to provide an excellent and helpful environment for our guests and it is very clear we were far from that target. I appreciate all of your insights and we will ensure the needed steps are taken to correct these issues. Thank you for your kind words regarding our Bellman and Valet team. They are the first line in our guest experience and should have set the tone for the entire stay, not have been the only highlight. Thank you again for your feedback and my apologies once again for the experience.

Indifference of the staff was incredible. The pool staff - napping in the morning, doing each others hair, gossiping about other guests - collectively they might have been the most unprofessional group of individuals - with absolutely no one in charge. The place seems to be run by teenagers. Front desk was not particularly helpful, room was not properly cleaned. Would have received better service at the red roof inn

I have to leave a glowing review for the cocktail waitress Kaylee J at the lawn bar at Cavalier. She was so pleasant and accommodating, bubbly and fast! She really made us feel at home while trying to enjoy an evening with drinks on the lawn, along with our 2.5 year old. Just a fantastic server and person and we hope to see her again some day!

I have been wanting to go to the Cavalier for a while, so my husband booked a trip for our anniversary. Unfortunately, my mother-in-law ended up being hospitalized that week and was unable to watch our son as planned. We planned to just bring our son at that point, but I decided to call and see if anything else could be done instead. To my surprise I was told on Wednesday evening that we could either cancel and just lose $200 or switch dates. I was so falsely impressed by their compassion and willingness to work with us. I asked if I could talk to my husband and call back the next day and the lady said yes. We talked and since we were unsure of when we could go again we decided to take the loss of $200 and try again next year. I called the next day and canceled the room. I was told at that point that we may have to pay a small percentage of the room but we might get the whole amount back since it was a family emergency. We never received anything saying the room had been canceled or money back, so I called the day of the trip to check in. The same woman answered and at that point said that since my husband booked with Travelocity (which I didn’t even realize until then) that he should cancel with them and then the Cavalier could take care of it on their end. I questioned that $200 was the worst case scenario and was put on hold. She then told that she was incorrect and we would have to pay the full balance regardless. I fully understand that canceling a reservation at the last minute isn’t always possible. I also fully understand that booking through another party complicated things (but that’s something they could see on their end from the start). We would have taken our son with us for the night if we would have known we would have been at a total loss. Travelocity called when this was found out and talked to the night manager (which is who I talked to) and he declined any compensation. When I questioned him on his employees giving me false information I was told they he was going to have a meeting so these miscommunications don’t happen again but there was nothing he could do for me and to have a wonderful night. I have never had such a horrible customer service experience and am so disappointed.

In my estimation, The cavalier is a great hotel with beautiful views, an historic feel, and a private beach club. The sign of great hotel is also the staff. They employ a first-rate staff attentive to the needs of its guests. Rolando, the bartender /server came over to warmly greet us and made us feel like family. He also makes great drinks and awesome martini! David, the Manager/ Security Supervisor Is such a gentleman, made us feel safe and secure within the hotel and made sure everything ran smoothly as it should. We love coming to this hotel and look forward to returning very soon Norman & Olivia
