Sugar Tree Inn, Virginia's Low-Tech Blue Ridge Mountain Retreat, is a country inn nestled into a mountainside less than a mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Each spacious room or suite offers a private woodburning fireplace, fantastic beds, and beautiful, comfortable furnishings. There are forty-mile views from the front porch rockers, with spectacular sunsets and, during season, more hummingbirds than you can count!

We booked one night in the Crabtree Falls room after planning a last minute weekend trip down Skyline Drive. Brenda and Kevin are gracious hosts, and they were able to accommodate us for a one night stay. We had a last minute change of plans on dining and Chef Gerry was able to serve us a delicious Italian meal on short notice. We are so appreciative of the hospitality, and wish we could have stayed longer. Watching the hummingbirds while sitting on rocking chairs on the deck was so relaxing!

Sugar Tree Inn is a heavenly location with very comfortable amenities. The Lodge was built in the 1980s with old wood and stones that are absolutely beautiful. Not only was our room nice but the common areas are open for reading, puzzle solving, and journaling. The Inn Keepers (Brenda and Kevin) took good care of us and the Chef who cooked our meals just sold his restaurant and moved here. The food was fresh and delicious. We can’t wait to return for another visit. We’re going to try to visit several times a year. There is a lovely trail through the woods for hiking, too. Oh, and the Hummingbirds in July were fun to watch while rocking on the front porch.

We found Sugartree lodge by accident, looking for a place near Crabtree falls where we could see the spring wildflowers, and a dark place to see Lyrid meteors. What a find – its lovely. The lodge is in a hollow just off the Blue Ridge parkway. We came from Maryland on highway 81 (ugh) and then took route 11 to Vesuvias. From there, Tye highway winds into the national forest up towards the parkway, and Sugartree is off the highway, down a gravel drive into the hollow. There’s a lovely view down to the west, but otherwise the lodge is surrounded by forest, and very quiet and peaceful. There’s a level 2 EV charging station too. We stayed in one of the cabins. They all seem nice – our place was immaculate, with a comfortable bed and en suite bathroom. There was a big fireplace – we only needed it one night but it would be very nice in winter. Our hosts were super. Kind, welcoming, helpful with guidebooks, lovely breakfast. We wanted to stay more than the 3 nights we’d booked but had to get back to work. And there were meteors – it was really dark at night – and the wildflowers were amazing

We visited the inn near the end of the season, and thoroughly enjoyed it! Stayed in the Crabtree Falls room and enjoyed a relaxed evening in front of the fire in our room’s fireplace. Hosts were very friendly and helpful. If you’re looking for the cookie cutter hotel room, go somewhere else. But if you enjoy beautiful mountains and rustic luxury, this is definitely for you.

In years past, we've booked a long fall weekend at one of the lodges in Shenandoah National Park only to find that Skyline Drive is closed due to ice or other inclement weather. To avoid that calamity, we thought we'd try an inn that we had stumbled upon nine years ago. We were pleased to see that the property was under new ownership and well maintained. The new owners, Kelly and Russ, are nice folks who chose the innkeeper lifestyle to raise their kids in a beautiful setting near extended family. We enjoyed our conversations with them and appreciated their suggestions for nearby activities, dining, etc. Our room was quite comfortable. We enjoyed using the fireplace each evening while sipping wine purchased from nearby vineyards. Breakfast was robust and yummy, shared with like-minded travelers seeking an escape from city life. Dinner is also available on some weekends and we regretted that we had not planned for that. (The menu sounded scrumptious.) The 1/4 mile drive to the inn from route 56 is not for the feint of heart and an SUV or truck is highly recommended. We will definitely return to this gem!

The Sugar Tree Inn is such a beautiful escape. Secluded among the trees with a flowing creek, it is the most beautiful setting for a day or two or three away from the hustle and bustle of life. We ordered the European basket to snack on and brought along a bottle of wine. Sitting in front of the fire, nibbling on the tasty goodies provided in the basket was a wonderful way to end our first day of sightseeing along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Book this place. No internet, No TV and it's a fabulous way to re-energize.

Loved our stay at Sugar Tree Inn! Can't say enough good about it .... Very clean, comfortable, quiet, relaxing! The European basket was tops! Windows open at night to hear crickets etc., was an added "bonus"... Definitely recommend!

Nestled in the woods right off the Blue Ridge Parkway, Sugar Tree Inn provided us a wonderful escape from our busy city life as we ventured down the Parkway. We had an absolutely amazing two night stay - choosing to stay in the lodge in the Tye River room. Kelly and Russ were amazing hosts that struck the right balance of attentiveness vs privacy. Their website is incredibly detailed in describing the accommodations so you know what to expect. The lodge itself and room was rustic and nicely decorated in keeping with what I imagine a lodge in the mountains should look like. Breakfast was provided every morning - although It was scaled back for us because we stayed during the week (they apparently do a larger breakfast on the weekends…hate to have missed that!). The location was perfect for our day trips to go hiking. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we will definitely be back again!

Absolutely wonderful! Stayed only one night but wish we had planned to stay a week. The inn is in a beautiful setting in the woods and our room in the lodge was large, clean and really comfortable. As noted in some other reviews, this place is a destination in itself and we'll definitely stay longer the next time we're in the area.

We stayed in the Sugar Tree room and enjoyed it very much. Kelly & Russ are great hosts and very friendly. A cozy casual atmosphere with plenty of things to see and do in the surrounding area. A GREAT place for a get away weekend.
