Stayed at the inn while attending a wedding nearby. Wonderful old house and converted out-buildings which are converted into rooms. Party included my wife, daughter and her intended. Wonderful service and Ric & Jeremy (inn-keepers) were so attentive. Had a small issue with the air-conditioning; it was very quickly addressed. Absolutely wonderful gourmet breakfast. Would and will recommend with hesitation....

My husband, son and daughter-in-law stayed here for a wedding near by. Ric and Jeremy are the absolute perfect innkeepers. It was everything all the other reviewers have said. Thank you to all you other trip advisors who steered us here! Can't wait to find an excuse to be down that way again and stay with Ric and Jeremy.

We have been to several bed and breakfasts, but this, by far, is the best ever!! Jeremy and Ric have made this house a home. Beautifully decorated, clean with all the extras. You feel like you've gone back in time to visit your family. Food was amazing!! Will definitely go back. Thank you Jeremy and Ric for an amazing weekend!!

If I could give this place a thousand stars, I would. The innkeepers are extremely kind and hospitable, the food is to die for, and the place is beautiful inside and out, complete with spacious rooms and peaceful outdoor seating areas. There's even a butler's pantry with coffee and tea, beer and wine, sodas and snacks, and even a medicine...

This B&B was a lovely place to land for a weekend of sightseeing. We stayed in the upstairs suite, because we liked having a sitting area. The hosts were gracious and the breakfasts on both mornings were very good. I would highly recommend for anyone wanting to visit the Northern Neck of Virginia and its numerous historical sites, or desiring...

This is what we will now compare all B&B's against. Jeremy and Ric set a very high bar. Everything about the Essex Inn is top notch. It completely deserves it's 5 star rating. The Inn, our room, breakfast were fantastic. We loved what they have done with the place, while not overlooking the amenities you would expect today. They love...

When I think of a B&B in the south, I think: history, food, and hospitality (all hallmarks of any good B&B across the country, to be sure). However, at the Essex Inn, these hallmarks are not only foundational, they are delivered in exquisite detail, impeccable taste, and then bestowed on guests as if nothing else in the world mattered. It...

The Essex Inn is a beautifully maintained B&B with extremely helpful and friendly inn keepers Jeremy and Rick. Very nicely decorated, comfortably sized rooms. The common rooms are beautifully furnished. The breakfast was EXCELLENT. We are repeat customers and we will be back.

Gracious hosts. Tastefully decorated. Period decoration, but with amenities of the 21st century. Large sitting rooms on first floor for private reading, conversations or socializing. Pleasant and attractive bedrooms. Delicious breakfast in formal dining room. High ceilings throughout. Half block to walk for sweeping views of river.

This place was the absolute dream weekend. I stayed there for my brother's wedding to his beautiful bride and I must say I was not ready to go home. Both Ric and Jeremy were the most gracious of host. The food that Ric prepares is exquisite and represents him grandly as the Master Chef that he is. The history that...
