Always enjoy coming here. Just was not impressed with the dining room at Christmastime. Very blah...no music, no décor. I was expecting a Colonial Christmas but was really let down so we left. I don't know what else to say about this.

If you want to get away from it all, but aren't the camping type, treat yourself to the Inn at Stratford Hall. My room was in the Cheek House, but there are adorable fully furnished cabins as well. No tv, no wifi-the perfect place to unplug and just breathe. History nerds like me enjoy the tour of the big house,... More

The inn is in a pleasant setting, but not more special than a Hampton Inn. While it was nice to be on the grounds of Stratford Hall, the restaurant is closed for dinner, which is probably just as well as breakfast was only passable. With its remote location, absence of a nice little restaurant which serves dinner, and poor Internet... More

We unfortunately stayed at the Cheek House over 4th of July for several days and well, So Much for Southern Hospitality! Yes indeed, the place is quiet with great history which we surely enjoyed - but what good is quiet with no food, ice water coming out of your shower, and promised WiFi that works for a few seconds then... We stayed one night in the Cheek House. The room overlooked the woods. It was comfortable and clean. I wished we could have stayed longer. It was very peaceful. There is no TV in the room, but a common living room area with TV and kitchen. And a nice deck. We didn't use the common areas, which was just as... More

Now, this was a very pleasant surprise to us, visiting Westmoreland County, Virginia, for the first time. Our drive to the Great House and accommodation quarters was beautiful. We checked in with Leslie (a definite keeper..delightful lady and couldn't do enough for my friend and I). We stayed at the Cheek House and it was very tranquil. The next day... More

This is not your average hyped-up faux-historical travel destination. It is authentic, beautiful, and like stepping back in time, as far as the ambiance goes. I stayed in the Cheek House and loved it. Central club/living room off of gorgeous deck under a bower of trees, modern, nice kitchen and private baths. Very comfy. It is however easy to lock... This was our second stay at the Inn at Stratford Hall -- and we shall certainly overnight there again when visiting the area. The rooms are simple, bust tastefully furnished and immaculately clean. The Inn is dog friendly. The grounds are magnificent. There is now the possibility of having a self-guided tour of the Great House. On the evening of... More

We stayed here, because it was the only option near Westmoreland Park, where we attended a wedding. We were told we were getting a cabin, which was misleading. We ended up staying in Astor House, which was more like a tiny hotel inside a cabin. There were 6 guest rooms and a common area that had the only TV. The... More

This was the closest place to eat after the 90 minute tour of the plantation and Great House. The ambience was nice. The food was average. I had a crab cake on a hamburger bun. It was tasty but dry. If you need a place to stop for lunch after the tour, this is your only option. Service was prompt... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Stratford Hall is located in Westmoreland County in the historic Northern Neck of Virginia. In the time of the Lees, travelers to the Northern Neck would have been assured of finding a warm welcome, a good bed and fine meal at Stratford Hall. Today the Inn at Stratford Hall carries on this tradition of the Southern hospitality by welcoming individuals, families, and groups to this serene and special place. Built by Thomas Lee in the 1730s, Stratford Hall is one of the great houses of American history. Four generations of the Lee family passed through its stately doors, including Richard Henry Lee and Francis Lightfoot Lee, the only two brothers to sign the Declaration of Independence, Revolutionary War hero ''Light Horse Harry'' Lee, and his son, Civil War General Robert E. Lee, who was born at Stratford in 1807. Nestled in the woods, our guest rooms encourage you to disconnect from the modern world and reconnect with nature and the past. The rooms in our two guest houses are tastefully appointed with modern fabrics, colors and up-to-date bathroom amenities and feature spacious central living rooms. Each and every day, you will have a clean, accommodating room with access to a 'living room' with TV and comfortable seating for gathering with other travelers. The staff will help you to fully experience this small corner of the world, from educational tours of the Great House to hikes along our miles of trails and fossil hunting on our beach. Our Restaurant has been a local attraction for nearly 80 years. Our skilled chefs create fusions on many traditional local dishes with a contemporary flair that offers something to please everyone. Weddings, group meetings and corporate retreats can be comfortably accommodated in private rooms of the Restaurant or elsewhere on grounds. Located only ninety minutes from Washington D.C. or Richmond .The nearest airports are Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, approximately 75 miles from Stratford Hall and Richmond International Airport, approximately 80 miles from the property. Stratford Hall provides a scenic and unspoiled setting bounded by over two miles of Potomac River shoreline and nearly 2,000 acres of fields and forests. Guests are encouraged to explore this wonderful property on foot, by bike or boat. ... more   less
