Bonnie and Jeff moved in during November, 2013 and started renovations almost immediately. Their storied journey started in New Zealand and was highlighted in articles published by "The News Leader" newspaper and "Shenandoah Valley Living" Magazine. This magnificent Queen Anne is situated directly across the street from the birthplace of President Woodrow Wilson and was first occupied by R. H. Catlett and his family in 1896. Mr. Catlett worked at Virginia Military Institute for a number of years prior to the Civil War and was a close personal friend of Stonewall Jackson (a teacher at VMI). The Catlett family occupied the house for almost 77 years. Because the proprietors, Bonnie and Jeff, painstakingly restored this grand old lady and turned her into on of Staunton's best bed and breakfasts many historical details remain within its 8,000 square feet. The Berkeley House Bed & Breakfast is beautifully decorated for the period, but modern conveniences are available for your comfort.

We decided to stay in Staunton, VA as a midway point on our drive from central NJ down to and back from a week long visit to Asheville, NC, and booked a room at the Berkeley House B&B on each end of the trip. What a wonderful experience! Our room was spacious and very comfortable, the expansive wrap-around porch a relaxing spot for our morning coffee, and Jeff's breakfasts were amazing! The inn is a short walk from the historic section of town, where we enjoyed delicious dinners both nights at Zynodoa and tasty draft beers at a couple of the local breweries. All in all, it was a most enjoyable visit--we're just sad that the Berkeley House B&B will be closing in July and won't be available for our planned return trip to Asheville in October.

Berkeley House is an oasis of calm and comfort. The balcony off my room and the wrap around porch made ideal spots for reading, The breakfasts were outstanding and of such quantity that no lunch was needed. A take-out dinner on the porch over a glass of wine rounded out the day. Despite the hills, Staunton is an interesting walking town from an architectural and historical standpoint. There is a trolley for those who would prefer to ride. On this trip, I skipped some of the sights, such as the Woodrow Wilson Library, as I have been to Staunton on a number of occasions. A highlight is always a performance at the Blackfriars Playhouse, Comedy of Errors on this trip. The only disappointment has been the closing of the Jolly Roger Haggle Shop several years ago.

Our room was so clean, quiet and cozy! Breakfast was delicious, too! The only disappointment was the private balcony. While private, there was only one bench to sit on and the deck needed painting. However, it was February when we stayed, so it could be that the private balcony gets more attention during the fair weather months.

Thank you for your kind words. Yes, the deck will get attention this Spring. We were testing a new stain during the last year and it’s held up well. We hope you’ll come visit us again after it’s finished.

We stayed in the spacious Woodrow Wilson Suite, which featured a very comfy king sized bed, huge (though drafty) windows, a large bathroom, and a charming Victorian seating area. Extra touches, such as a filled hot water thermos and assorted teas in the room, cookies in the entry hall, and port and sherry available in the drawing room, all add to the homey and welcoming feel of the inn. Jeff made us a delicious and huge breakfast the next day and so we left Staunton feeling well rested, well fed and relaxed. What more can you ask for from an inn?

Wonderful! From the property to the breakfasts. Just a very comfortable and relaxing stay. Great location and great hosts. We ate two meals a day due to the hearty breakfast. This is not your run of the mill B and B breakfast. Such a beautiful residence. We hope to be back soon!

Came down for family weekend at JMU. All places booked in Harrisonburg. Found this place which was 30 minutes away & booked it. So happy we did. From the minute we walked into this beautiful home, the service was over the top. We were greeted by Jeff & shown to immaculately clean room that was beautifully furnished. Everything that you could possibly need was in the room & then some. The breakfast that Jeff & his wife prepared in the morning was beyond delicious. The only downfall was when we had to leave, but on the bright side, our daughter has 3 more years at JMU, so I know we will be back.

My wife and I stayed here while visiting our daughter at college. The rooms are gorgeous, the breakfast is delicious, and Jeff and his wife went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. And the location is in perfect proximity to the shops and restaurants in Staunton. Highly recommend!!!

We had an amazing time with Jeff and Bonnie. The couple have made the Berkeley house into one of the best B&B's we've ever stayed in. The rooms are spacious and clean. Their really thoughtful and their hospitality shows through every detail. From the high quality soaps/shampoos/conditioners to the Tesla charger available to guests to the tasty and generous breakfasts, this was a great place to stay. Jeff even accommodated my husband's gluten allergy, and still managed to make the best cookies, breads, and waffles. We felt safe during the pandemic with limited and distanced guests. This was a perfect way to spend our 10 year anniversary. We'll be coming back soon!!

My husband and I stayed for two night at Berkeley House Bed & Breakfast. During our stay, we visited the Green Valley Book Fair, several antique stores and our daughter (main reason for our trip) who lives not too far from Staunton. If we had more time, we would have definitely taken advantage of the Shakespeare Theatre and Staunton's historic district. The breakfasts were exceptional!
