My boyfriend and I stayed here over Labor Day Weekend and had a great experience! Upon checking into our room we were greeted with a welcome basket on our bed. Touches like that really made the stay special! The room was very cute and it was the perfect quiet romantic getaway we were looking for. Hopefully we can come back one day.

Lovely, clean, cozy and welcoming. New to me was the self serve aspect of checking in which worked very well. Owners Matt, Erin and their youngest son Owen stopped by during our stay to say 'hi' and make sure we had everything we needed. Would I stay here again, when in the area? A resounding YES. Recommend visiting Natural Bridge State Park, Mill Street restaurant for delicious BBQ ribs and time browsing the Factory Antique Mall.

Let's start with the good. I didn't have any information sent to me on how to gain access to the property when I was within driving distance on the day of my arrival. In defense of the property owner they had just turned the management of the reservations over to a company and no one had responded with information to me. When I called the owner responded immediately and I was able to get into the property. Someone has taken a lot of time to design this property and did a wonderful job. Also the property is very clean and the cleaning person is one of the most wonderful people I have ever met ...kind, sweet, hardworking and responsive. Now for the issues... The check in was challenging. The locks to access the rooms are confusing. The air conditioning was not working in some of the rooms and freezing in our room. There is no visible sign when you enter this property so the GPS has to work. When you drive-in there is a sign that says no trespassing. It's a good thing I looked at the picture of the house, or I would have turned around thinking I shouldn't be on this property. The light switches did not work, nor did the fireplace. This property needs a regular handyman on site, because there's a lot of upkeep that isn't being done. The boxed breakfast was okay.

Years ago, stayed here when it was the Inn at Old Virginia. So wonderful we wanted to go back - what a mistake. Found out that in between this place became Westshire Farms. Current owners still have sign for Westshire Farms out, NOT a sign for Orlesa farms. Hardly warm welcome when all you get is remote control instructions for entering and leaving. Beautiful main house can't be entered. No good places to open suitcases, no closets, no hair drier, can't open dresser drawers without hitting the fire extinguisher, precious little shelf space in bathroom, no instructions for operating TV/cable box. Weird heat - couldn't use thermostat, just kept turning on and off. Only positives - well-lit room, strong shower. Thrilled to leave.

Response from Matthew Yoder, General Manager at Orlesa Farms

Hi Max, We appreciate your review. You stayed during the very early transition of opening back up, reason for your rate being so low in comparison to your past stay was for that exact reason. Lots of changes have and are currently taking place including increase service, and back to a B&B experience. Regarding your comments about the room, closet, hair dryer, dresser, etc...we are confused. The Bristol, your room, is one of our favorite. Has a very large closet, beautiful antique working dresser, and hair dryer is in every room. Either way, your review is noted but probably needed a little background and small business respect. Again, keep in mind, you stayed during the actual month of taking over, reopening and organization at a HIGHLY discounted rate, of which you knew about. Very harsh and unwarranted. Curious if you have made any good reviews ever. Next time you visit, you may find a similar rate elsewhere that may provide you with an amazing place to stay for that situational price, but we believe you will find it to be much less pleasing. Thanks Max.

The room was very clean and comfortable. It was quiet during our stay. The Jacuzzi was nice. Check in/out is all DIY. The only staff we ever saw was a very nice lady who was cleaning one of the rooms as we walked by. Don't know who the owners are; never saw them. Would give it 2.5 starts if it was option. There is a main house for event space. You are forbidden from nearing the main house unless you are hosting an event. There is no welcome letter with details on stuff to do nearby. You can expect to receive many copies of an email, with the subject line "Orlesa Farms Check In/Out Details." It's just that: house rules, stay away from here, put stuff there, don't park in that place. None it feels very inviting. Breakfast is not included at this bed and breakfast. You have the option to pay an additional $30/day for them to place a microwaveable meal in your refrigerator prior to your arrival. If you opt in(we did not), the website says that for $30 "[y]our individual Mini-Fridge is stocked for two with our delicious Breakfast in a box. Just heat the wrapped portion in the microwave and enjoy." But maybe the box is amazing and I missed out? Also from their website: "A typical box Contains: 1 Reheatable Main Entree item (i.e. Roast Vegetable Quiche; Sausage, Egg, & Cheese Sandwich; Breakfast Bean Burrito, etc), 1 Muffin, 1 Fruit cup, Small Orange Juice, plate, picnic style silverware & napkin." We elected to spend the $30 in town at various cafes, which were lovely. You will receive detailed instructions for how to see yourself out the door. Be sure to collect all of your trash and walk it out to the trash barrels next to the chicken coop. "Check out and perform all checkout instructions by the [checkout] time to avoid any charges." In a nutshell, it was really cute property. But for $226/night(which includes taxes, fees, etc.) at a B&B, I would normally expect breakfast, a visit from the owner, and a welcoming atmosphere. I would not expect those things if staying here. I would maybe pay $125(fees and all) for what is not more than someone renting out a room in the house behind the main house. Then I would take the extra $100 in to town and have a great meal at Zynodoa.
