We loved how this place is small, intimate, and family run. The interiors were comfortable, clean and well-appointed. Pickett also had good covid precautions in place, and wore masks the whole time. We were there last week, and my kids still ask about when we are going back to the “lady’s house”. They loved the tire swing and walks around the 400-acre plantation. Highly recommend!
We highly recommend Oak Grove Plantation. It is a lovely property and our room was VERY comfortable and complete with a library of antique books! Very cool. Our hostess, Pickett, was very accommodating in providing us "box breakfast" meals to take with us to track, even delivering them to us VERY early in the morning. She also provided excellent suggestions for dining nearby. She really went out of her way to make us feel comfortable. We would definitely stay there again.
The owners Pickett and Mike were exceptional, the house and the property exceeded our expectations. We are antique and Virginia history fans and there is an abundance of both at Oak Grove. Pickett has some interesting family history in this home and we thoroughly enjoyed walking some of the acreage. One of the highlights of our stay was the family cemetery. We asked for a dinner recommendation and dined at a fabulous restaurant in Halifax called the Molasses Grill in Halifax which was excellent.in trying to meet our requests. Our visit was for only one night but we had a wonderful time and will return.
We had a fun and relaxing weekend at this B&B. Our family really enjoyed Oak Grove's hiking trail and waking up to the delicious breakfasts Pickett prepared for us. It was very hot while we were there but we visited Staunton Park's swimming area and it was just perfect. Dinner in neighboring Halifax was also great. Our 3 year old enjoyed running around and playing outdoors, specially in the sandbox. There's also a room with a bunch of old school toys (legos, dominoes...) where he spent quite a bit of time. Also, I never expected to find a charging station for both Tesla and conventional electric cars in there. Highly recommended.
Pickett Craddock was an amazing hostess. We were greeted with fresh-squeezed lemonade and a guided tour of the house (optional--Pickett did not make us feel pressured to take the tour at all). She made us feel welcome right away. The grounds were well-kept and peaceful. Our room (The Library) felt so antique and was beautiful. If you're accustomed to country sounds, sleep will not be an issue; if you're not used to country sounds, I recommend having some sort of white noise (app on phone or mini travel fan) during summer because the cicadas were booming. Pickett made our stay feel like a true, comfortable bed and breakfast. She found out I loved huevos rancheros and, without a second thought, offered to make them for us. Breakfast was so delicious and was served with fruit and fresh-squeezed orange juice. This is the perfect place if you're looking for a peaceful, off the beaten path place to stay with excellent service. We highly recommend Oak Grove Plantation.…
