Detailed Reviews
Our daughter was accepted to Roanoke College and we came in for a night just to tour the campus and area and I couldn’t have been more pleased. Cindy Lou was the absolute most amazing hostess. She was welcoming even though we were coming in late. She had heaters on, lights on, and she left us a wonderful note and a basket of goodies including HOMEMADE LEMON MUFFINS!!!!! My favorite. Over the phone as we were driving she asked about our coffee/tea preferences and we were more than perfectly accommodated. Thank you Cindy Lou!We’ll be back.

What an amazing place! The people are even better! I loved my stay here. This is like a home away from home. Cindy Lou is an amazing person. She went above and beyond every chance she could. I was so happy I picked this place. It is so warm and inviting here. It seems like there is nothing that was not thought about here. I was left wanting for nothing. Cindy Lou left breakfast baskets that had delicious muffins in the morning, as well as some snacks too. They even had snacks in the room, as well as tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and water. All the rooms are beautiful. The suites are amazing. Well worth the money you pay for them. The bed was amazing. This place really left no stone un-turned on service. I will come back here.

The owner was super helpful, very knowledgeable about the area and attractions. Our room was lovely with a feel of yesteryear!
Lots of charm in this Inn.
It is located within walking distance to downtown, with it’s various eclectic shops, and the park with the beautiful lake.
We will go back!!

Pleasant, comfortable, Cozy. Bedding and pillows, so comfortable. Breakfast and snack basket left outside your door at night with delicious homemade muffins. Refrigerator has yogurt, cheese, juice and water. Numerous tea bag and coffee selections. Close, walking distance to downtown Salem, restaurants, CVS. And my best H.S. friend only 3 blocks away.

For an overnight visit to Salem VA we selected the Inn at Burwell Place. It is a beautiful setting and a lovely Victorian Home. Cindy Lou was a wonderful hostess. She pointed out "must see" attractions and made great restaurant recommendations. The picnic breakfast was wonderful.

I love Inn at Burwell Place. The Innkeepers are phenominal. The grounds are gorgeous - this old mansion is breathtaking and the decor is so tasteful and elgant that you feel you have stepped back in time. I highly would reccomend a wedding, party or just a weekend stay at this hidden retreat You will feel like a pampered member of the royal family at Inna t Burwell Place. Ask for Cindi Lou - she will take care of you.

My husband and I were here just one night, but it was a wonderful stay! The room was beautiful and had a sleeping porch which was lovely. Cindy Lou is friendly and inviting, and the inn itself is quiet and extraordinarily comfortable. It's also a great location - you can walk down Main St and enjoy a nice dinner (and some drinks!) and stroll back. We will definitely stay here again!

I booked another stay at this bed and breakfast inn. I was visiting our son who attends Roanoke College in VA my husband and I love this place. CindyLou who runs this cozy and very charming place is such a joy. The BednBreakfast is beautiful and inviting. The bedrooms are very clean and the shower has hot water and fluffy white towels. She also provides fluffy housecoats to step into after a relaxing shower. There is a coffee maker in each room that makes single cups at a time with so many teas, coffees and hot cocoa to choose from. Breakfast was excellent once again. I had a fresh blueberry loaf of bread which I would love to have the recipe for, yogurt, fresh fruit and cheese. CindyLou has finishing touches like a small vase of flowers. If you are passing through Salem Roanoke area book a room here.

The Inn at Burwell Place completely fulfilled our needs and then some. The room had everything we needed and the breakfast/snacks/drinks gave us just the right options. The hostess is knowledgable and nice. We had a great time.
This old 1906 Inn has all the old charms intact due to the authentic period bathrooms, the old glass in the windows, and the gracious front porch. As with old houses, there is always something to be addressed, but nothing affected our stay. It was nice being able to sit in the living room at the end of the day, with our friends, and visit as if we were at home!

This B&B is absolutely gorgeous! A lovely room is accompanied by a lot of the small touches, like nice shampoo, hand cream, personal coffee maker in each room and a brilliant selection of teas. The entire place was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Unfortunately, the hosts could rarely be found for any sort of help. When I checked in I called several times (as the note with keys advised) to let Cindy Lou I was there, I never received a call back but got a knock on my door just past 9pm and considering I was exhausted from traveling, I was not too amused with. The breakfasts were very underwhelming, although there was very nice fresh fruit it was often accompanied with not-to-nice muffins and/or store bought granola bars. When I finally did see Cindy Lou she was a very warm and friendly person and I enjoyed speaking with her. Overall, I enjoyed my stay but would have appreciated a little more customer care.

Responded Jul 8, 2015
Thank you for all of the kind comments. When making reservations we do ask our guest what is the best time for them to gain entry into the house. Usually our guest will give me a time frame and then call me 1 hour prior to check in, if different from our original discussion. We feel this gives our guest the most freedom when checking in. Our guest have access to my cell number 24 hours per day and are encouraged to use it for anything they need. I reside on the third floor of The Inn and am easily accessible . Once checked in and given a tour of the house my guest receive a key to our front door and their bedroom. This guest stay was during the death of a family member. I profusely apologize for the tardiness of greeting Sarah. I know a note and key are not the warm welcome we want to exude to our guest. I feel I do need to refer to our website which states that we do not serve a hot breakfast. However, we do offer our guest complimentary muffins, pastry, juice selection, cheese and yogurt. There is access to a large coffee and tea selection. In addition, we offer complimentary soda. Hope to see you again at The Inn in the near future. Cindi Lou MacMackin Owner/Innkeeper

"Both second floor suites good for older children to room in; suite one with the pullout sofa on sunporch, available seasonally; suite with daybed, also. The queen rooms are still comfortable. Main floor has sizable living room/commons area for family visits if using multiple rooms. Third floor is innkeepers' quarters."Read full review
