On a scale of 1-5, this Inn is an 8! We were upgraded to the suite and I didn't want to leave. The inn is immaculate and the hosts are friendly, thoughtful, and just downright fun to talk to. Jayne's gluten-free cookies were some of the best I've ever eaten, gluten or no. We loved sipping a glass of wine and visiting with the other guests in the second-floor covered porch during a rain storm. All of the guests were part of an event that included an early departure, so Jayne packed us delicious, locally-sourced breakfasts with all of the accoutrements, and Chris printed up tags for us with our names and the logo of the event. I sure hope I have a reason to go to Roanoke again in the future. I wouldn't stay anywhere else.
My husband and I pulled into the driveway of The Black Lantern Inn and upon Chris warmly greeting us, we immediately felt at home. Chris and Jayne truly have made the inn a "home" for their guests. We were shown our beautiful, clean and updated accommodations for the night, which included a kitchen area outside of our room that we shared with the other guests. What I loved was the full size refrigerator where each guest had their own labeled space to unpack their coolers and put in any food or drinks which needed to be refrigerated. After settling in, Chris offered us a beverage which we enjoyed on the lovely outdoor, covered porch. As we were looking at dinner menus, Chris mentioned a few restaurants that he liked. We chose a restaurant and were talking to Chris about directions. We had been traveling The Blue Ridge Parkway all day and Chris offered to pick up our dinner for us. Chris and Jayne told us to keep relaxing on the porch and they would be right back with dinner. His recommendation for dinner, Billy's, was a delicious choice and we enjoyed the quiet and peace of the porch setting for dinner. We took an evening walk in the neighborhood, relaxed in their patio area and settled into our comfortable bed for the evening. The next morning we awoke to a filling and scrumptious breakfast of homemade granola, berry medley, specialty maple cream yogurt, sausages and fruited "pan" cakes with a homemade blueberry syrup. Plenty of food to begin another day on the parkway. Jayne was even kind enough to share her "pan" cake recipe with me. We left feeling like Chris and Jayne were saying goodbye to family who were always welcomed in their home. Hospitality at its finest!! Do not hesitate to stay at the delightful Black Lantern Inn.…
We stayed at the Inn for 3 nights with our daughter & son in law to see family. The Inn is beautiful- super clean and well appointed. The hosts are so friendly & know the area well. Location is close to downtown and easy to get to the interstates. Plus, the breakfasts are delicious!! We would definitely stay here again!
My sister and I had a wonderful stay. Our hosts had great attention to detail from getting speciality treats from our home town, sharing family history based on our shared family name, to the cute welcome message on the breakfast menu. The breakfast was delicious and very filling. A very nice place to stay, quick and easy to get downtown and hope on the highway.
Breakfast is not delicious and healthy; it's a beautiful site to wake up to! While no snow, the weather was delightful and we enjoyed hiking with the walking sticks they allowed us to use. Such wonderful owners to provide such a relaxing stay.
Amazing building! Even more amazing owners! Extremely clean and neat. We stayed for one night and the owners upgraded us to the larger suite free of charge because no one else was in the home. Breakfast was delicious and healthy. We cannot wait to travel through Roanoke again just to stay here!
My late father and myself used to be the proud owner of this property and the people behind the day-to-day operations of this bed & breakfast in Roanoke, VA., till his passing quite some time ago, it’s been almost 5-7 years now since it switched hands to Chris & Jane. I have got to tell you a true story, I sold this property to them some time ago and came to Roanoke recently just to get away and decided to stay at this inn that I used to privately own. The quality of service from Chris & Jane was breathe taking, everything my father would have ever wanted for his guests are transferred to a great couple continuing a legacy from him and to their own legacy. Breakfast was great, inviting cards were provided at each breakfast with a detail on what you were receiving every morning. Homemade chocolates and other cook specials were left to grab at your convenience in the main area of the inn. Cleanliness of this facility is a step above on my previous efforts when I used to be the guy to clean up after guests, they are continuing the same standards and actually have better standards through COVID which makes it a better place to stay during tough times. The exterior and interior of the property is still solid, it looks almost close to the way it was sold to them with minimal upgrades. This inn was built with high quality materials and labor from a father and son operation with craftmanship on every detail and a solid financial future to be the best of the best. The stay for my partner and myself was the best, we appreciate Chris & Jane for the fabulous welcoming, great food & treats and a fabulous facility to stay in.…
This review is way overdue for the awesomeness of this Bed & Breakfast and the amazing owners. My husband and I booked the Skyline Room for a total of 3 nights in late August 2021. The room had thoughtful attention to details and high-quality furniture, bedding, bath and body products. The room was very spacious and comfortable that also came with a small fridge, microwave, and a Keurig coffee maker. On the second-floor common area for the guests, there were a number of snacks, water bottles, and soda products in addition to the fridge and microwave that were available for usage by all the guests. The highlight of our stay in this beautiful inn was the amazing and friendly owners and the awesome breakfast that they prepared for the guests. We can’t say enough about how amazing these breakfasts were and how much we enjoyed talking to Chris and Jayne. There was so much deliciousness, thoughtfulness, and attention to detail with every breakfast entrée. The inn owners accommodated all our needs (e.g., locking our bicycles in their storage unit, directions to restaurants and much more). The owners were so nice that they also gave us some extra home-made cookies from the breakfast on our last day so we could have them on the road. We definitely plan to go back and stay at Black Lantern Inn again. They made our visit to Roanoke very memorable and pleasant.…
Warmly welcomed by the owners. Beautiful inn! We stayed in the Roanoke Room on the second floor. Very quiet. King bed, very comfortable bed, excellent Verizon signal, beautiful private bath steps from our bedroom, full kitchen steps away. View of the Star from the outdoor covered porch. The organic, Gluten free breakfast, was delicious! We would definitely return. love Roanoke and this inn!
This is our second visit here. Chris and Jayne‘s graciousness, knowledge of the area, and helpfulness make the stay special. Fantastic breakfast and hospitality! Like the song goes, Feels Like Home. We highly recommend.
