My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 4-day stay at the Inn. The accommodations and amenities were excellent. Chris and Jayne were wonderful hosts and were over-the top with help for local information, ie shops, restaurants, things to do! And oh yea, the Black Lattern breakfasts, that were prepared and served by Jayne and Chris, were delicious. We highly recommend the Black Lattern Inn as being one of the nicest all around bed and breakfasts that we’ve visited.

My late father and myself used to be the proud owner of this property and the people behind the day-to-day operations of this bed & breakfast in Roanoke, VA., till his passing quite some time ago, it’s been almost 5-7 years now since it switched hands to Chris & Jane.
I have got to tell you a true story, I sold this property to them some time ago and came to Roanoke recently just to get away and decided to stay at this inn that I used to privately own.
The quality of service from Chris & Jane was breathe taking, everything my father would have ever wanted for his guests are transferred to a great couple continuing a legacy from him and to their own legacy.
Breakfast was great, inviting cards were provided at each breakfast with a detail on what you were receiving every morning.
Homemade chocolates and other cook specials were left to grab at your convenience in the main area of the inn.
Cleanliness of this facility is a step above on my previous efforts when I used to be the guy to clean up after guests, they are continuing the same standards and actually have better standards through COVID which makes it a better place to stay during tough times.
The exterior and interior of the property is still solid, it looks almost close to the way it was sold to them with minimal upgrades. This inn was built with high quality materials and labor from a father and son operation with craftmanship on every detail and a solid financial future to be the best of the best.
The stay for my partner and myself was the best, we appreciate Chris & Jane for the fabulous welcoming, great food & treats and a fabulous facility to stay in.

Our 1st time in Roanoke and we lucked into this unparalleled, true gem B&B! Tastefully decorated & furnished (5-star beds/pillows!). The Owners (Chris & Jayne) have thought of everything and are open to accommodating any requests "redefined"! Fresh, organic (locally farmed) breakfast -- "10/10"! Easy plentiful parking, excellently done walkway and stairs up to entrance & main porch! Another porch off 2nd floor (w/ stylish gas heater), backyard is huge with wood swing, side Adirondack chairs & tables and firepit with plenty of adirondack's (great for group/family or enough space for privacy if multiple guests). Gorgeous landscaping and trees! Can't wait to come back! DO NOT miss this exemplary better than "home away from home" B&B!

This was the best B&B on our recent trip and one of our all-time favorites! Wonderful hosts and excellent organic, gourmet breakfast. From the minute you arrive to the minute you leave they treat you like royalty. Prior to our going out to dinner, they offered us a beer or glass of wine and we enjoyed them sitting on their cute, private porch. They gave us some cookies as a going away present. This is a definite "must stay" if you find yourself in Roanoke. Note that the sign is easy to miss on a fairly busy road and you can only enter from one direction.

I stayed in the Skyline Suite and it was even more beautiful than I expected. Chris and Jayne are wonderful innkeepers who made me feel so welcome in their home. Jayne's cooking is delicious and she puts in extra effort to make sure breakfast is amazing. Chris makes sure that everything you need is available, and even built a special place to wash down your bike. I was there for 3 nights and felt like a part of their family by the time I left. If you are planning a trip to Roanoke this is definitely the best place to stay!

This review is way overdue for the awesomeness of this Bed & Breakfast and the amazing owners. My husband and I booked the Skyline Room for a total of 3 nights in late August 2021. The room had thoughtful attention to details and high-quality furniture, bedding, bath and body products. The room was very spacious and comfortable that also came with a small fridge, microwave, and a Keurig coffee maker. On the second-floor common area for the guests, there were a number of snacks, water bottles, and soda products in addition to the fridge and microwave that were available for usage by all the guests. The highlight of our stay in this beautiful inn was the amazing and friendly owners and the awesome breakfast that they prepared for the guests. We can’t say enough about how amazing these breakfasts were and how much we enjoyed talking to Chris and Jayne. There was so much deliciousness, thoughtfulness, and attention to detail with every breakfast entrée. The inn owners accommodated all our needs (e.g., locking our bicycles in their storage unit, directions to restaurants and much more). The owners were so nice that they also gave us some extra home-made cookies from the breakfast on our last day so we could have them on the road. We definitely plan to go back and stay at Black Lantern Inn again. They made our visit to Roanoke very memorable and pleasant.

My husband and I pulled into the driveway of The Black Lantern Inn and upon Chris warmly greeting us, we immediately felt at home. Chris and Jayne truly have made the inn a "home" for their guests. We were shown our beautiful, clean and updated accommodations for the night, which included a kitchen area outside of our room that we shared with the other guests. What I loved was the full size refrigerator where each guest had their own labeled space to unpack their coolers and put in any food or drinks which needed to be refrigerated. After settling in, Chris offered us a beverage which we enjoyed on the lovely outdoor, covered porch. As we were looking at dinner menus, Chris mentioned a few restaurants that he liked. We chose a restaurant and were talking to Chris about directions. We had been traveling The Blue Ridge Parkway all day and Chris offered to pick up our dinner for us. Chris and Jayne told us to keep relaxing on the porch and they would be right back with dinner. His recommendation for dinner, Billy's, was a delicious choice and we enjoyed the quiet and peace of the porch setting for dinner. We took an evening walk in the neighborhood, relaxed in their patio area and settled into our comfortable bed for the evening. The next morning we awoke to a filling and scrumptious breakfast of homemade granola, berry medley, specialty maple cream yogurt, sausages and fruited "pan" cakes with a homemade blueberry syrup. Plenty of food to begin another day on the parkway. Jayne was even kind enough to share her "pan" cake recipe with me. We left feeling like Chris and Jayne were saying goodbye to family who were always welcomed in their home. Hospitality at its finest!! Do not hesitate to stay at the delightful Black Lantern Inn.

My wife and I were very impressed by Chris and Jayne's attention to detail. The Inn was immaculate, the amenities all first-rate. The breakfast was personalized and spectacular-- they sourced the very best ingredients. We had not been to Roanoke before, and they offered some very valuable insights. I do not write these reviews frequently, but this experience was exceptional!!

This amazing bed & breakfast exceeded our expectations and then some! Do yourself a favor and splurge on the Skyline Room. While the shared kitchen is nice, it was an absolute delight to go to our room, close the door, and have our own mini fridge, freezer, microwave, and Keurig in the sitting area, and then walk up the steps to our room- which was more like a presidential suite.

I haven’t been this relaxed during a stay in months. Chris and Jayne were the utmost professionals and so incredibly kind and helpful. Jayne is probably one of the best cooks this side of heaven, and Chris was great at recommending local attractions and places to eat. We had Chinese one night and Mexican the next.

The balcony where they served an out of this world breakfast was lovely, and it gave us a chance to meet the other couples staying in the other two rooms.

This may have been our first visit, but it surely won’t be our last. We came into town for Radford’s Highland Games, and I’m looking forward to next year’s trip already!

What a cozy and well apportioned B&B! Stayed for two nights and it was perfection. Room was comfortable and spacious with a beautiful bathroom to ourselves. Hosts provided great dinner recommendations! Breakfast was hearty with mostly locally sourced ingredients, and the breakfast balcony offered excellent views.
