My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 4-day stay at the Inn. The accommodations and amenities were excellent. Chris and Jayne were wonderful hosts and were over-the top with help for local information, ie shops, restaurants, things to do! And oh yea, the Black Lattern breakfasts, that were prepared and served by Jayne and Chris, were delicious. We highly recommend the Black Lattern Inn as being one of the nicest all around bed and breakfasts that we’ve visited. Janet and David

This was our second time staying here and we love it. Chris and Jayne go the extra mile to make it special. The breakfast is delicious and so much thought goes into it. This time we had charcuterie boards and wine after the Christmas Parlor Tour. Jayne made butternut apple salsa! Fantastic. We’re booked for next year! It’s a wonderful place to meet old friends! We are in the holiday spirit now!

The ultimate hosts, as well as the cozy, just-like-home atmosphere, make the Black Lantern Inn a five star must stay while in Roanoke. The rooms have everything you need. There is a common area kitchen with coffee and tea, which guests can make themselves anytime. The gracious hosts give each room a shelf in the common area refrigerator, so guests can have a few items requiring refrigeration. The breakfasts are homemade, according to each guest's liking. The Inn is extremely clean and quiet. As a female solo traveler, I felt safe at all times while staying at this Inn. The outside grounds have lovely and comfortable seating areas. The owners are very friendly and can't be more accommodating; they will pick you up and drop you off at the Roanoke Amtrak train station. They have great suggestions for sites to see in Roanoke and the surrounding areas. If you plan to visit Roanoke, don't pass up a chance to stay at this one-of-a-kind Inn.

My husband and I stayed for just one night at this lovely inn. I wish that we could have stayed longer as this was so nice. We felt so pampered. Between the gracious hosts, the upscale comfy bedding and the delicious breakfast we wanted it to continue. Chris and Jayne make their guests feel very special. They have thought of everything you need or want for the perfect stay. If we are ever in the area again we will most definitely stay here. 5 stars!!

This amazing bed & breakfast exceeded our expectations and then some! Do yourself a favor and splurge on the Skyline Room. While the shared kitchen is nice, it was an absolute delight to go to our room, close the door, and have our own mini fridge, freezer, microwave, and Keurig in the sitting area, and then walk up the steps to our room- which was more like a presidential suite. I haven’t been this relaxed during a stay in months. Chris and Jayne were the utmost professionals and so incredibly kind and helpful. Jayne is probably one of the best cooks this side of heaven, and Chris was great at recommending local attractions and places to eat. We had Chinese one night and Mexican the next. The balcony where they served an out of this world breakfast was lovely, and it gave us a chance to meet the other couples staying in the other two rooms. This may have been our first visit, but it surely won’t be our last. We came into town for Radford’s Highland Games, and I’m looking forward to next year’s trip already!

My wife and I had an unexpectedly wonderful experience at the Black Lantern Inn. We were greeted by name by the friendly hosts Chris and Jayne, and escorted to our well appointed room. There are only three guest rooms and an open kitchen just for the guests. The surprise was sitting down to a beautifully presented delicious breakfast on the heated terrace. Our hosts printed a custom menu for us. Among other handmade foods were pumpkin pancakes with a walnut syrup. It was a terrific way to start the day. Don’t miss it!

The location was perfect - close to the highway and so easy to get to whilst being close to the Blue Ridge Parkway. The property has amazing atmosphere with plenty of space in the very well appointed bedrooms. There is a kitchen area with fridge and drink making facilities for your convenience. The host are pure joy - so friendly and accommodating and happy to go the extra mile to make your stay comfortable. The breakfast was a thing to behold.

My wife and I were very impressed by Chris and Jayne's attention to detail. The Inn was immaculate, the amenities all first-rate. The breakfast was personalized and spectacular-- they sourced the very best ingredients. We had not been to Roanoke before, and they offered some very valuable insights. I do not write these reviews frequently, but this experience was exceptional!!

If you are ever in Roanoke, you will be privledged to get a reservation at Black Lantern Inn. I booked a non refundable reservation for one night for the summer of 2020 for a Mini Cooper Road Rally. Due to Covid, the Rally was postponed to 2021 and Black Lantern held my reservation. 2021 Rally did not happen either so they held my reservation to 2022. When we arrived at this wonderful Inn we were met with unbelievable hospitality. Our room was wonderful. They had the most amazing warm chocolate chip cookies. We walked to a restaurant for dinner. While eating dinner, a horrible storm came through. I got a text and it was the owner of the Black Lantern making sure we were OK and offered to come and pick us up. When we got back to the Inn, they had arranged on the balcony for another of the Mini Cooper Rally guests and us to have wine and visit. Even made a centerpiece of our Rally map with a miniature Mini Cooper. Wow! The next morning we were met with a fresh, beautiful breakfast to take to our morning Rally meet. Great Hostess and kind people. The travel experience one hopes for.
