My husband and I were on a Blue Ridge Parkway trip. I used Trip Advisor to find all of our accommodations. The Black Lantern was rated very high, but I still tend to worry. It exceeded our expectations!! It was a beautiful place and Chris & Jayne were awesome Innkeepers!! Chris greeted us outside as we were walking in and Jax, their little dog, greeted us inside. Chris was so knowledgeable about all the history and places to go in the area, including restaurants. My husband and I had such a great time walking the area around the B & B, on our way to a restaurant he had recommended. A lot of beautiful old homes. The restaurant was a burger place and it was as delicious as Chris said it was going to be. When you look out from the back of the Inn, there is a huge star on the top of a hill. Chris had told us all about the history of the Star. We still had about an hour before it got dark, so we drove up there to check it out. It was worth the short drive. It is not only the Star, but it has a beautiful park surrounding the Star. We headed back to the Inn and played a game outside on the porch on the second floor which was right outside our room. It was a beautiful night and we could see the big beautiful Star, all lit up. The rooms are all beautiful! Chris and Jayne greeted and talked to us all at breakfast the next morning. This particular morning they had a continental breakfast which was delicious!! We did not walk away hungry. We had a wonderful stay! I would highly recommend it. If we travel that way again, we will definitely stay there. …
We enjoyed our stay, the Inn Keepers were very friendly and helped us locate places to see and eat. The 3rd floor room was Very Comfortable, it was like a small apartment. The back porch with the view of Roanoke Star on Mill Mountain is spectacular. We enjoyed a very nice breakfast and enjoyed talking with the other guest and inn keepers. Look forward to returning this summer for another stay.
The Inn can over be described as warm and inviting reflective of its hosts, Jayne and Chris. Our room was luxurious though very comfortable , a perfect place to relax, read a book, drink a glass of wine or beer or just nap. Breakfast was delicious accompanied by great conversations with Jayne and Chris. It was the last night of our vacation heading home and we wish we had more time. We definitely will return to the black Lantern Inn
This B&B was awesome exceeded our expectations on our second anniversary trip week! Chris, Jayne and Jax (the sweet and happy poodle) were so nice to meet and eat breakfast with! The room was VERY nice and TOP NOTCH detail. The breakfast was VERY VERY GOOD! If you want a EXTREMELY NICE place to stay for one or more nights, you will not go wrong staying here. Thank you Chris, Jayne and Jax for a VERY enjoyable stay, DELUXE++ accommodations and super delicious breakfast !!!
We spent (sadly only) one night at the Black Lantern. We loved it! A special mention for the upstairs deck with heater where we enjoyed a glass of wine chatting to our host Chris. Our room was comfortable (great bed!) and there was a mini kitchen with everything we needed plus milk when we asked for it to put in our (British tea). The welcome was warm, hospitable and really welcoming. BLI is well situated and walking distance from the town. Chris and Jayne gave us a local dinner recommendation that was spot on! Really good food at Evie’s Bistro & Bakery - and a homely crowd - again we were made to feel really welcome. So far, despite stiff competition, the BLI was really my favourite place to stay in the region. Breakfast was sublime with maple cream and fruit to start (indescribably delicious) followed by pumpkin flour pancakes with bacon & sausage with pecan syrup and maple syrup. And Jacky, the tiny toy poodle was an absolute delight - what a well-trained dog and so sweet. L We really, really enjoyed staying there - the quality of the conversation was as good as the accommodation! Thoughtful & interesting. Ask to see the photos of the development of the inn itself- again, a fascinating and uplifting story! Many thanks to Chris and Jayne - that was special!…
