Our four-day stay at Nesselrod on the New was absolutely delightful. The property is conveniently located along the New River near Radford University just off Main Street. The location was important to us as we wanted to be close to family living in the area. The house was built in 1939 and the rooms are decorated in the Virginia tradition. The owner, Jeff Caldwell, welcomed us upon arrival and helped us get settled in our room. Jeff provided a tasty breakfast every morning of locally sourced eggs, bacon and sausage. Although the rooms have window air conditioning units, they are new, worked well and kept things cool. Jeff is a local resident with deep ties in the community. He is working to restore Nesselrod on the New as a wedding venue and a comfortable place to stay when in town visiting Radford or Virginia Tech. Breakfast in the dining room provides a great opportunity to meet other parents and students in the area.

My husband and I enjoyed a quiet night and morning breakfast at Nesselrod B&B on our way home to NC. We rented the Lily of the Valley room, which was very spacious and private. Everything about the home was clean and cozy, with great areas to spread out, indoors, or stroll around on the property outdoors. Our host, Jeff, was informative and accommodating, He went the extra mile, though, by mailing us an insulated lunch bag we mistakenly left behind in our room! Kudos for the gracious hosting, and thanks!
We highly recommend the Nesselrod as a superior and more comfortable alternative to the endless generic hotels when near Radford/Blacksburg/Christiansburg!

We stayed here overnight on an unexpected drive down south after our flights were canceled. The house is charming and the property maintained nicely. Our room was clean and the bed comfortable.

Jeff was fantastic with hospitality and went out of his comfort zone to make us oatmeal for breakfast since we stick to eating plants. We asked when making the reservation if he could accommodate a plant-based breakfast and he did a fantastic job; we were appreciative. It was winter when we stayed so we didn't get to enjoy the outdoors much, but I imagine it is beautiful in the summer.

The price was a bargain with a lovely breakfast included. A great choice if you are in the Radford VA area and need a place to stay.

We stayed in the Stephen room, which was a little small but nicely appointed. This is an old home that has been refurbished, so one would expect the bedrooms to be small. Had a private bathroom with shower. Bed was comfortable and breakfast was good. Met some interesting people at breakfast.

My husband and I were married at Nesselrod on the New in September 2000. It is a lovely place with wonderful grounds that are well maintained. Each room has a different theme (we stayed in the Japanese room) and the owners obviously put alot of time and effort into decorating. The breakfast was very good and the room was extremely clean with all the luxuries one would need. We have gone back on two occasions and enjoyed both of our visits. It's my understanding that the innkeeper is no longer there, so I'm not sure if the staff is as wonderful and courteous as it was before he left. I would definitely stay here again! They made our wedding wonderful and magical, with no major snags.

Nice house but the the bathroom was not clean, the plumbing erratic and the room was cold. When we arrived there was no one there to greet us or tell us which rooms to stay in. There was no one there when we left so no breakfast or even coffee. Mark, the host, was friendly but failed to follow through on several instances. Pricey. Very disappointing. Would not recommend.

We didn't have much time for travel and needed a break from taking care of others to take a moment for each other. It is fortunate that we live close to a destination Bed and Breakfast where the manager makes sure that everything is taken care of.
Our private time started by soaking in "mansize" tub for two in front of the fire and ended with dancing in the deuce shower.
When you want and need time away from home, this is the perfect place to land no matter what the travel time.
To top it off, nothing beaks being served a breakfast that you remember a month later and want more of.
We had a wonderful respite and look forward to our return.

This is one of the most attractive houses I've stayed in, and the staff is extremely accomodating. Breakfast is fabulous and is an excellent gourmet meal. If you ask you can just stop by for breakfast (for a fee) to check the place out.

Each room has its own unique flair and is fun just to investigate. I enjoy looking around each time. The bathtubs are amazing and the beds fabulous! They even have the best towels: Frette, no less.

It is also surrounded by some great gardens, which are currently being redesigned to reflect their original design. The gazebo in front is also an excellent place to relax. I am disappointed that they removed the old box gardens that looked so beautiful there, but it still looks great. Finally, you can walk down to the river.

My only regret is the price; although it is certainly worthy of charging the price it does, we would be able to visit more frequently if only we got a 25% discount! The area leading into the B and B is a bit- well, fast-foody, but once you get to the house, trees block the less attractive modernization.

My husband and I got married here in 2002 and have been back to visit since then. The value for what we got with our package was outstanding- we rented all the bedrooms and the gardens for a great price. You can also rent the house for other smaller events. It would be perfect for a retreat. Summer is busy for events, but the other seasons are calm.

When I reserved, I put down 4 p.m. for my arrival time but when I arrived a few minutes after 4 no one was there. After waiting over half an hour, I finally called the owner. He didn't seem at all bothered by the fact that I'd been waiting so long and said someone would be right over. About ten minutes later someone came to show me to my room. Normally, this wouldn't have been a big issue for me but I had come to give a talk that evening and needed the time to shower, change and finish preparing before my pickup, so it was quite inconvenient to have to wait 45 minutes plus. Also, the woman who let me in then left right away so I was alone in the house. I needed an iron for my suit - but there was no one to ask. I decided to hang it on a hanger and put it in the bathroom while I took a shower, hoping the steam would get the wrinkles out - but there were no hangers in the closet. Also, the light over the mirror was out.

The house could also use more attention to housekeeping. My room was dusty, the windows were dirty, there was black mold around the edge of the shower, and one of the window blinds didn't work.

On the plus side, the owner is certainly personable and makes a good breakfast. Hopefully my bad experience here was a one-off.

My wife and I stayed at Nesselrod expecting a luxurious, relaxing getaway but instead were very disappointed. Nesselrod is under new ownership and the couple running things now has no background in hospitality. The service and food were poor and the house has seen better days.

Save your money and try another B&B in the area.
